After the success of Rayko’s Juno chart topping ‘People’ EP (Retro006), Retrospective label heads Ruben & Ra step back into the breach for the label’s 7th release. For their 4th outing on the label they came to notoriety on, the West London-based duo came up with the concept of selecting their favorite stateside disco cuts from between 1980 and 1985 and reworking them into 4 entirely new tracks. Already gathering hype, ‘When I’m Feelin’ borrows from Geraldine Hunt’s watershed 1980 classic ‘Can’t Fake The Feeling’, while ‘My Love’ samples the Malibu-based producer Ned Doheny’s ‘To Prove My Love’ from ’81. Over on the flipside, the soul-injected ‘Everybody Loves Good Music’ pays homage to the Dayton’s Capitol Records-signed ‘The Sound Of Music’ from ’83, with a boogie jam entitled ‘All Night’ inspired by Inner Life & Jocelyn Brown’s 1984 anthem ‘Moment Of My Life’ completing the package.
As is always the case with a Retrospective EP, there’s a 320k FREE download and this time it's the sunshine electro-funk of ‘Everybody Loves Good Music’. More

A quick listen to the radio suggests that disco is back, not that it ever went away here at Retrospective and over the past few months we've been proud to work with some of the biggest names on the scene including Heion, Hardway Bros and Ajello. Still there's certainly something in the air and so what better time to welcome back to the label's Spanish King of the Re-Edits, Rayko, with a stunning new 4 track EP. Since he last graced us with an EP he's gone from strength to strength, clocking up an impressive run of releases on labels such as Lumberjacks in Hell, Rare Wiwi and an album soon to be released on NANG. Throw in a relentless touring schedule and it's easy to see why Rayko is fast becoming one of the most loved names in modern day disco. So here we have the 'Can't Get Enough' EP, an apt title we think as the second the needle hits and the title track, a trademark boogie dancefloor smash, kicks in you'll be up on your feet. The hypnotic bassline, the 80's synth breaks and soulful vocals all combine to stunning effect guaranteeing this a place in the record boxes of the scene's leading players. Next up is Rock My World, a cheeky MJ sample and deliciously slow funky groove makes this dance floor dynamite. Flip over to the B side and Rayko increases the pressure with the fiery Step Out Of My Dreams before finally closing off the EP with Touch Me, reworking the classic Fonda Rae cut and delivering one of this summer's sureshot poolside anthems. With an unmistakable love and appreciation for disco and boogie and a true talent for taking the dusty classics of the past and given them a new lease of life, Rayko stand outs from the crowd. Internationally in demand as a DJ and with a huge following online, we're delighted to welcome Rayko back to the Retrospective family.

After a storming end to 2012 with the Slow It Down & Elijah Collins release in November swiftly followed by Elias Tzikas in December, Retrospective is back with a monster of a release. We are proud to kick off 2013 with none other than Italy's finest; Ajello! Eclecticism is definately the keyword word of the Ajello project comprising of Luca (DJ Rocca) Roccatagliati and Fabrizio Taver Tavernelli. The Ajello sound features a number of influences all of which can be heard in the tracks on this, their first E.P. on Retrospective; electro, new-wave, italo-disco, disco, neurofunk, eurodance, space sounds, early house. Over the years their music has received worldwide support from a host of international artists including Laurent Garnier, Erol Alkan, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, and Nick Fanciulli amongst others. As this is the first E.P. of 2 from Ajello we decided to pull out all the stops on the remixes for this project. First up is Sean Johnson aka Hardway Bros, undoubtedly one of Future Disco's pioneers with a heritage to match who delivers a truly unique rework of Kalimba Tune taking us on a trip back to the warehouse sounds of the 80's. The second mix of Kalimba Tune is delivered by Chris Massey best known for his mixes of 2 Bear's - Bear Hug, Diplo & Sleazy Mcqueen who delivers a pure Nu Disco groover. In addition, for the digital release Verdo of Danny Was a Drag King fame brings his signature hypno-beat flavor to the fold alongside label owners Ruben & Ra who deliver a taste of Cosmic Jam to Saturday Morning. Quite a package I'm sure you will agree! Keep your eyes peeled for releases by Heion, Rayko, Fingerman, Ruben & Ra plus some other special surprises in 2013.

After bringing Rayko to their ever-growing Retrospective fold for ?Retro003?, then following up with the infamous ?Street Machine?, the still unmasked Ruben & Ra are proud to welcome Montenegro's revered house cat, Fil Lavin. Already generating comparisons to house patriarchs such as Chez Damier, Kerri Chandler and Ron Trent to the current day likes of Nicolas and Graham 'The Revenge' Clark, Fil pursues a distinctly Stateside sound reminiscent of the output of Nu Groove, Strictly Rhythm & Nervous from the golden age of US house. Having already hit Retrospective's SoundCloud page, 'Soul Brother' is already in high demand with requests coming in on a daily basis for a release date. Displaying their deeper side for the first time, Ruben & Ra supply a bass-led reinterpretation of the title track, while over on the flip, an 8-minute cut of contemporary acid house entitled 'Chord Cracker' jacks the tempo, before calm is restored with the low-slung boogie of 'Shiver & Breeze'. As is always the case with a Retrospective EP, Ruben & Ra have made one of the EP's tracks available for FREE 320k download and this time it's the duo's 'Souled Out Dub'.
