TRACKLIST:
1 I've Got Acid (On My Brain)
2 I've Got Acid (On My Brain) (Acapella)
3 The Name Rolls In
4 Field Notes
Next up on the docket for Acid Camp Records is a record created by duo John Tejada and Justin Maxwell. The pair came together to make ACR III with two things in mind: Creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible.
The opening track, “I’ve Got Acid (On My Brain)” is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which Tejada and Maxwell have been striving to do for years. Using a vintage EMS vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. “The Name Rolls In” is layered in an acid playground of sounds. A rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. “Field Notes”, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. Carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

John Tejada - Infinity Room
Palette 71 kicks off with legendary Warp artist Plaid on remix duties. Transforming the title track, re-synthesized 909 samp-les and lua scripted sequencing, Plaid builds melodies and ar-rangement to epic proportions in classic Plaid fashion. Tejada’s new EP is an homage of sorts to the sample heavy production style of the late '90s. "Limiting the options and just creating and manipulating a batch of samples is my happy place,” says Tejada. The title track hints back to a personal favorite, Optical’s "Moving 808s." While the sound is quite different, the approach is similar: samples, editing, some fil-ters and not a whole lot more opens up a lot of creative possi-bilities without too much getting in the way. Of course, the bass plays an important role. Combing through some older influences of varying styles, the production became more in line with Tejada classics like “Timebomb” and “Western Star-land,” both sample collage pieces focused on groove. The final track, "Infinity Room" also follows this production process while resulting in a slightly moodier sound.

As Palette Recordings approaches its 23 year anniversary, John Tejada returns to the label he started in 1996 with a new 4-track EP entitled “Performance Review.” From the distinctive sound of the opening chords on the title track, it is clear we are in Tejada’s patented world of melody and harmony. Each track highlights Tejada’s artful approach to crafting grooves that blend deep origins with soulful new ground. His unmistakable sound drives the four songs throughout with a focus on layering samples, rhythm and sound design.

"The End of It All," released in 2006 on Palette Recordings, is one of the most iconic John Tejada songs ever produced. It is instantly recognizable and has been played by top DJs of different genres the world over. Selling thousands of copies on vinyl, it hit #2 on the Beatport overall chart as well as garnering a lengthy stay on it's classics chart. It's been imitated, covered (unauthorized), and until now only one official version was ever released. There have been multiple unreleased versions over the past 9 years, including a version Tejada performed at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with a 100-piece male chorus (LAGMC) in the summer of 2010. Why after so many versions did he finally decide to release a new mix? Simply because this one just felt right and seemed to stick. The new 2015 mix originated as part of Tejada's 2015 live hardware set that he has been touring around the globe. This new mix stands on its own yet avoided receiving a brand new title since its strong emotive theme and connection to the original were undeniable. "Reactivation" and "Sheven" are two additional new works featured on the B side. Originating from his 2015 live set, the two tracks showcase Tejada's strong sense for the dance floor. "Reactivation" is a Casio CZ-101 and Roland TR-909 locking into a strong bass line driven groove that draws elements from Tejada's own influences. "Sheven," named for its use of a Roland SH-7, features a sickly sounding riff with punchy 909 drums. This new release of The End of It All will continue to ensure the track's legacy as one of John Tejada's most valued classics.

PAL 065 opens with "Dramamine" and "Code Ext", a refined blend of haunting phrases and grooves that flow with vibrancy and challenge familiarity. Each track is uniquely its own yet thrives with a warm cohesiveness. "Cipher" and "Clairaudience" tie up the release with engaging rhythm-al-ism and well-crafted synth melodies. "Cipher" builds upon the emoted pulses of the preceding tracks and transitions hypnotically into "Clairaudience". The final track touches visions from a listener's deepest sleep and weaves those ideas into sounds and beats that breathe beyond the limitations of dreaming.

Following the success of his recent Kompakt single "Somewhere," John Tejada returns to his own Palette Recordings imprint with "Anaphora." After a series of collaborative projects with fellow artists, Tejada distinguishes "Anaphora" as his first solo release on Palette since 2009 and presents a double headliner of his trademark musicality and driving rhythms, delivering a set of two eruptive grooves with a focus that has earned Tejada the respect of both listeners and peers alike. "Anaphora" continues where John's 2006 smash "The End Of It All" left off, showcasing Tejada's trademark use of hopeful melodies and emotive sequences. It highlights his undeniable quality of crafting arrangements that rise above monotony.Continuing where Tejada's "Mono On Mono" and "Eurotunnel" left off, "Bode's law" explores a darker, more driving side of the two songs. Furious analog synths and drums orbit each other in syncopation to create an engaging rhythm that is hypnotic and inspiring.

Pulse Locker refers to the analog method of synching analog modular instruments and drum machines, a method of working John Tejada & Josh Humphrey have embraced to generate their trademark sounds and grooves. Preferring to work away from the computer as much as possible, John and Josh have adapted a more old school approach to their work, syncing analog gear together, not from a computer, but the way it was synced back in the day. The results are a tight, organic analog sound showcased particularly by the 2nd track "Bifur Gates." With a TR-808 as master clock, syncing the modular system, the sound takes you back to the mid 90s era of techno. Real 808 beats, punchy bass and an ever so shifting classic chord line will leave you lingering for the days of old. On the A side, "Pulse Locker" with its big and warm groove, gets things moving with a blend of house and techno. Rounding out the ep, "Unanimous Arc" showcases the mad acid sounds possible on the SH-101 while modular chords elevate the track to a manic pace. "Pulse Locker" marks the duos third collaboration on Palette Recordings.

Ever since John Tejada and Arian Leviste began releasing music in 1994 people have often wondered what is Arian's role in the production duos sound? Leviste has created much of his own music but was never interested in releasing it, choosing to focus on collaborations with Tejada instead. Finally, the long wait is over! We are proud to present the first solo effort by Leviste and it's been worth the wait. Three ultra varied tracks starting with the driving drums and bassline of "Senioritis." "Better Get Used To It" shows off Leviste's melodic abilities with a beautiful melancholic epic. These first two songs really show what an important role Leviste has played in the duos productions over the years. "Change The Station" rounds things out with a bit of modular synth experimentation over a jacking rhythm track. While work with Tejada is mostly done in John's studio, these tracks were all created pretty much without Tejada's knowledge in Leviste's own studio made up of various modular and classic synths and beat boxes. Leviste also finding strong values in working with hardware instruments creates his productions in a classic style working out of the box.
Arian has been exclusively involved in much of John Tejada's work for the past 16 years ranging from eps on 7th City and Pokerflat to full length albums on Moods and Grooves, Playhouse, and of course Palette Recordings.

Palette Recordings celebrates it's 13 year anniversary with a release by the duo that started it all for the label. No giant mix compilation or collection of remixes, just another example of what has built the foundation of Palette over the last 13 years. John Tejada & Arian Leviste have been collaborating for over 18 years now. With this release the duo in a way come full circle, combining some of their oldest production techniques with newer ones. It's been a long road for these 2 seeing styles and trends change, equipment and technology come and go over the years, but what has remained a constant is their vision of electronic music. "Messenger" with it's subtle intro of modular synths and rhythmic pads breaks out of it's sinister drop full force into a multi dimensional crowd pleaser. The stabs continue to build energy while layered drum programming and modulating synth lines escalate the tracks energy. On the flip, "Observer" continues with a fierce pace that harkens back to the days of Palette 4, combining vintage synth stabs and drum machines recreating that classic vibe which is gaining such momentum again these days. The difference here is these guys were around at the time already releasing music that would garner them such high acclaim over the years.

John Tejada was marooned in Los Angeles in the summer of 82. A strange place to grow up coming from Vienna Austria. Even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. In a land of glowsticks and desert parties, Tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. Fast forward to 2007 when Detroit area native Josh Humphrey was also marooned in Los Angeles. It didn't take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. The result is "Marooned," Palette's newest collaboration between John Tejada and Josh Humphrey. The trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos' work. The title track, "Marooned," joins Humphrey's modular synth work with Tejada's beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. "Melodiac" continues from there with a lighter mood, with Humphrey's modular melodies and Tejada's signature stabs and rhythms. Rounding out the three is "Concrete Safari," which largely focuses on Humphrey's modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. Humphrey's knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. He currently works with LA based Big City Music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. It is also a place Tejada frequents to test most of his gear

"From The Beginning," marks Dave Hughes second ep release for Palette. The three songs offer different variations on a single theme. "From The Beginning" starts things off with classic sounding chords and punchy drums. "From The Start" follows the theme in a more stripped down fashion, adding vocoded percussion with a powerful stab. "Start Over" continues in a more tricked out percussive form with clever programming and synth stabs. In all a club friendly three tracker and great follow up to his first ep on Palette titled "Let's Do It," the title track having recently been featured as the first track on John Tejada's Fabric 44 cd. Dave is originally from Ireland, but currently lives in Los Angeles. He has been DJ'ing since the age of 15, initially in Dublin clubs along side many well known house DJs. He's also made his way touring around Europe, Australia, Asia and the US. He joined the current list of Palette artists in the summer of 2007 with his first vinyl release "Let's Do It." He's currently working on new productions with more soon to come.

After 17 years of working together, Tejada & Leviste are back in the studio again putting their modular synths to good work. M Tracks (M as in modular) features 4 analog workouts in varying styles. M Track 1 features a melodic deep, yet driving track reminiscent of the duos best known work. M Track 2 and 3 showcase a trackier sound focusing on basic elements while M Track 4 turns in a much more experimental direction. The approach to this ep was a very fun, hands on process. Analog sequencers are used to drive the various modular synths and their components. This process allowed for a more organic feel as the unstable electronics change over time as well as the manual changing of parameters over time. Systems used include Doepfer and Frostwave sequencers, and modular systems consisting of Cwejman, Doepfer, Harvestman and Bananalogue modules. Analog drum machines aided in the rhythms, however M Track 3 was generated from pure modular hardware including the drums.

Over the past few years John Tejada has been splitting his time working with long time collaborator Arian Leviste and more recent collaborator Justin Maxwell. Why not combine all 3? Palette All-Stars is just that. A collaboration between the 3 main Palette artists, each (Tejada, Leviste and Maxwell) playing a particular role in each song. From the ep opener, "After School Special" you get a sense of the trio each working on a particular element. Tejada's driving drums, Maxwell's modular synth work, and Leviste's bassline elements sculpt a driving track with a classic feel. "The Pilot" features Leviste's smooth melodic synth work while Maxwell processes through the modular and Tejada privides the dubby beats. The ep finisher "Downtown Hotel" features a mad Maxwell modular freakout and driving 808s.

"Where" marks Tejada's eleventh full-length release. In it he ventures away from many of his own trademarks and journeys into an intimate vibe of warm pulses and bright energies. The tracks take expectations and enlighten them with a collection of grooves and tweaks that are spacious and rhythmic while being devoid of predictability. The fifth track, "Desire," features a first time collaboration with Nicolette who, having notoriety for her early 90's hit "No Government" as well as previous work with Massive Attack and Plaid, lends her vocal talents to a sonic gem that is magic in itself. A musical collaboration with Tejada was imminent once Nicolette moved to Los Angeles and was introduced to him by a mutual friend. "Where" is not a typical cerebral approach to electronic music. Rather, it is "soul-ebral" in its ubiquity, giving the listener a rare vision of a melodic spin wherein Tejada can be seen in his studio creating life breathing through synths. John Tejada on "Where" : This album came out of experimentation and starting fresh without knowingly making a new album. After a few ideas came together and songs were recorded, the realization set in that I was on my way towards a new full length. The place these tracks came from within me is hard to put into words. But as the collection of songs started to grow a bigger picture came into focus. Where is a moment in time, a place, a realization.

Palette is proud to debut its newest artist, Dave Hughes. The Irish born, LA-resident sound engineer finally let Palette in on his music making secrets. The result is Dave's debut ep "Let's Do It." A three tracker showcasing what is to come from this visionary artist. "Let's Do It" kicks the ep off with a strong rhythmic solid base which alone would be enough to solidify it as a stand out track, but without delay the song quickly develops into a musical journey with rhythmic chords at the end providing the icing on the cake. The flip side provides two more tracks of the same calibre, "It all Deepends" and "Realization" showcase great sound design skills and a message about our own humanity. Take in to account the heavy subs and intricate drum programming and you have what we feel to be a classic Palette Recordings single.
