A killer first release on Flight Recorder. We present label founder Iron Blu who drops a 4-tracker of deep, stripped back Detroit-tinged techno. Side A opens with an intense drum-driven, string-laden stomper, whilst the second track continues with a growling bass holding the alien stabs and scattering snares together. Side B goes deeper, with Endless Eye navigating a deep bass beneath sweet strings and angular synths, then the final track goes into dub realms and even deeper.

His production career has spanned krautrock/cosmic, post-punk, electrofunk to what he does today. Flight Recorder has been releasing a steady stream of 12" EPs and one CD album since Feb 2012 from Cottam, Kid Machine, Casionova to Antoni Maiovvi, Perseus Traxx, Alessandro Parisi and Emile Strunz amongst others. Stepping aside from managing and A&R for Flight Recorder, Iron Blu releases his second offering for the label. "Science Probe Vessel" is 12 inches of jackbeat and Detroit techno. A1 is a dub-tinged organ driven 909 jack. A2 is a bass-heavy 909 jack cut through with glacial strings. B1 is heavy Detroit techno. B2 is a deep groovin' house workout fused with wobbly seesawing strings.

With releases on Future Flash, Bunker, M>O>S, BOE Recordings, Photic Fields, Skylax, Chiwax, BoomChik, Snuff Trax, Use of Weapons, Got2Go, Remote Recordings & J.A.M. Traxx, 18 months after Perseus Traxx brought us his first E.P, dedicated to four of the nine Muses of ancient Greece, Flight Recorder now brings you the second instalment dedicated to four more Muses, on "Goddesses Of Inspiration II" The feel is the same as before with jagged cutting tones jammed live then edited down. Heavy synths and scattered drums perform an ode characterising the appropriate Muses, as tangled wires and a pair of hands wrench the overload of inspiration they give from basic machines. Once again Perseus' release on Flight Recorder is a unique set of acid-free sonic experiments, that sometimes feel as cold and edgy, as they do warm and carefree.

The year is 2475 AD. As the galaxy is torn apart by incessant sonic warfare three veterans of the synth-zone prepare to drop down onto the surface of Nu-Earth for a final battle to reclaim the lost holy sound of Italo Disco and liberate the enslaved populations of the wastelands to reclaim their former musical glories from the tyrannical “audioverlords”, the oppressors of all sentient musical forms. Genetic Musicians carrying the personality matrices of their fallen comrades encoded into their synths, they know no fear or compassion, their instincts artificially modified for ultimate musical combat… code-named Kid Machine, Casionova and Flemming Dalum they operate without boundaries deep behind enemy lines. Watching, waiting, ready to strike at a moment’s notice in any environment on or off-world… This is the first transmission decoded by our defence perimeter satellites into analogue format. First of three volumes presented in a clear plastic sleeve, each one pressed on vinyl whose colour is taken from the Italian flag.

Emile Strunz continues his mid-tempo journey charting a course through the harder, darker waters of electronic dance music with the North Sea Body Music EP on Flight Recorder. Picking up the baton where recent stunning releases on World Unknown, Tusk Wax and Rothmans left off, the North Sea Body Music was recorded in Emile’s studio on the mouth of the River Tyne literally overlooking the North Sea. Deception is an aggressive chugging tribal bomb that sounds like classic Tenaglia dropping hypnotic New Beat at Ancienne Belgique in 1989, with the track building and building into an insidious mantra of ecstatic delerium. Kid Machine takes the tempo down even further, but sprinkles it with an uplifting dose of krautrock to rescue the track from the basement of sleaze. …lan Vital sees Miami modernity clash head-on with European classicism as Emile Strunz test drives a sleek chassis of clean synthetic sound that manages to pull in references from Cabaret Voltaire, Italo-disco and Bobby O whilst navigating its way around the darker extremes of the dancefloor. And just when the barrage of electro-charged body-beat sequences gets too much, Flight Recorder’s Iron Blu increases the voltage further on a reprise which sees even more electronica shipped in to ensure the North Sea Body Music EP makes it back on to dry land.

Paul Cottam is a name synonymous with quality, hard-driving underground house. The Preston producer shot to notoriety in 2009 with three limited edition 12”s that blew up the underground deep house and nu-disco scenes with no advertising and no info – combining neo-soul, afrobeat and hip hop with slo-mo house grooves – all three sold out in double quick time and ended up in many ‘best of 2009’ charts. Since then, Cottam has concentrated on developing his own style of sub-aquatic acid house – remixes for Luv Jam on Phonica’s label, Pattern Select on Delusions of Grandeur, Morning Factory on 20:20 Vision offshoot Fina and for Last Waltz on Endless Flight have complemented original tracks on Quintessentials, Wolf Music, German undercover label Story, Deep Deep Down EP for Aus Music and the summer anthem ‘Sunrise Sunset’. Now he makes his debut on Iron Blu’s label Flight Recorder with two tracks that are unmistakingly the Cottam sound. ‘The Long Dark Road’ moves along with a deep aquatic sound that is peek-time fodder with a hard and boomy kick-drum driven rhythm section and swathes of eerie synth pads. ‘Untiled’ slows down a tad, going deeper with dub elements enmeshed within the tapestry of analogue sounds and a bassline you can ‘feel’. With both track coming in at just under 11 and 12 minutes, respectively, this is a 12? that is a must have.
