The debut 12" by electronic diviner Secret Circuit - aka Eddie Ruscha (also of Laughing Light of Plenty & Food of the Gods) - is now the physical property of earth's people. On "Nebula Sphynx" analog synths & sequencers burn deep like a tincture of jack house and ham-fisted experimental attack music. The track features special guest circuit Cole MGN (The Samps, Nite Jewel), who gives the "Sphynx" an extra crispy, cosmic crunch. Ruscha keeps the meters peaking on "Parascopic Rope" with randy drum machine blasts and Casio SK-wanderings. Each 12" from Beats in Space features original artwork in considerate & serial form. BIS002 12" features artwork by CF (aka - Providence-based artist Christopher Forgues), purveyor the Powr Mastrs comic book epic and a finely-tweaked & tuned in dude.

It seems like a long time since we last heard anything from the talented Secret Circuit aka Eddie Ruscha!
Truth is he's been more prolific than ever...just not with his Secret Circuit alias.
For those of you unfamiliar with his work Secret Circuit is audiovisual artist and L.A. native Edward Ruscha V (yes indeed, son of THEE Ed Ruscha, legendary pop artist) who’s been on the music scene since time immemorial. He has been a member of innumerable bands and projects over the years including Medicine, Maids Of Gravity, Radar Bros and punk-dub outfit Future Pigeon to name a few as well as managing to squeeze in time for his equally multifarious and highly productive solo ventures. In just the last few years he's released a string of records under his own E Ruscha V moniker for labels such as Beats In Space, Good Morning Tapes and Fourth Sounds as well as finding time for several collaborations including Doctor Fluorescent (Crammed Discs), The Parels (Lal Lal Lal) and XLNT (DFA). You could say he's prolific!
So it's definitely a long overdue and most welcome return for Secret Circuit. The "Green Mirror" album is a double LP comprised of 21 new pieces (80+ minutes of music) recorded between 2020 and 2022. It captures that spacey otherworldly quality Secret Circuit is known for, but the music also veers towards the warmer, ambient textural territories that his recent E Ruscha V and Only Thingz projects explored...an altogether softer sensibility.
Yet nevertheless this album is very much "Secret Circuit". Invisible Inc wanted to explore a side of Ruscha's that hadn't been captured so clearly before, focussing on his more emotive yet at the same time experimental side (is that a paradox?). Very rarely do we hear musicians using modular synths to create something so human sounding, and when juxtaposed alongside slide guitars, live bass and vocodered vocals, we have something very special indeed.
Then there's the artwork...all lovingly drawn by the bubbling mind and deft fingers of Eddie himself. The package is made complete with a double-sided colour insert with liner notes (which happen to be written in reverse, naturally, so you'll need a mirror to read them) and another of Eddie's mind-warping doodles.
This is not like anything else you will hear...it's true art and you'll definitely need a very open mind to reap the rewards of this beautiful piece of work. A future weirdo classic in the making More

Coming out in late July from the man who brought you E Ruscha V's "Who Are You" to great acclaim earlier this year is Secret Circuit's 2nd EP for Invisible Inc, the cryptically titled "Out Of Body Interiors".Featuring four exclusive new tracks of the acid drenched, dubbed out, tropical disco variety Mr Ruscha, as always, delivers a sonic palette you won't find on many other imprints: from the turbo-charged homage to early 90s bleep meets indie rave euphoria of Stomping Ground, through the chugging, motorik groove of Crazy Ways which sounds like it's blasting out full volume from a smoke-filled Space Patrol hovercar gone rogue then flipping over to side B and waking up in Mali, Andromeda in a haze of syncopated percussion, other-worldly guitar licks and a billion new synthetically generated sounds that you may strongly suspect you just imagined.....to finally The Feather Drop which brings entirely new meaning to the word deep and which fires technicolour sounds of profoundly immense variety at the synapses at a rate of knots not many other producers can keep up with as all the while the bass holds court and keeps things deep rooted and dub heavy.
Secret Circuit (aka Eddie Ruscha V) has had a plethora of releases on an equally expansive plethora of labels under such names as The Parels (Lal Lal Lal), Blasé (ESP Institute), Food Of The Gods/Laughing Light Of Plenty (Whatever We Want), Odd Numbers ('No' Label), Shadow Kids (El Diablo's Social Club) and of course as Secret Circuit (Beats In Space, Emotional Response and Invisible, Inc.) Collecting Eddie Ruscha's cassette recordings over two compilation albums has been one of the highlights of the label, so it seemed right to hand over the choice tracks to a set of his contemporaries from the City of Angels. First up is rising star Suzanne Kraft. The alias of Diego Herrara, very much a young man to watch. With releases for Running Back, Young Adults and Noise In My Head, as well as possibly EP of the year already as Dude Energy, while holding down being a member of The Pharoahs (ESP Institute / Not Not Fun) and not forgetting, one half of Blase with Mr Ruscha himself, he's a busy man so getting this remix took some effort! However, it was all worth it, as Diego takes the crazy afro-stylings of Afrobotics and pulls it towards the danceflor, adding percussion and sirens, forging the originals vibes in to a ethno-beat club jam that is all about that heads down moment. Next up is the quirksum individuality of The Samps. The project of one of LAs fiest, but hidden musicians, Cole M.G.N. Working with Nite Jewel, Ariel Pink and Puro Instinct is cool enough, but his solo Samps project is another level, with a mind-altering exploration of funk warped electronics. Sure enough then, his take on Shockers is just that, a mash of beats, bass and sample cut ups. This is pyschedelic dance music for the mind. Flipping things completely is LA's Mr Funk himself, Tom Noble. Taking the laid back grooves of Underdogs, Tom does his trademark good time, party vibes with a killer boogie style remix. Letting the groove do the work, keys and a good deal of wiggle just led it all ride home. Finally then is something Emotional Response is all about, highlighting producers the label is fans of, but letting them explore alternate spheres. While Cameron Stallones' Sun Araw project has become one of the names in modern psychedelic experimentation, little is known of the alter-ego Aristrocrat P. Child. With just one cassette of warped disco edits to his name, here he closes the EP with exactly that, a re-edit of cut up irreverance, twisted and looped to distraction - an ethereal experimental and modern musical genius...just like Mr Ruscha.

When Juno Plus spoke to Emotional Response boss Stuart Leath recently, he talked excitedly about his latest time intensive project - trawling through boxes of old cassette recordings from L.A multi-instrumentalist Eddie "Secret Circuit" Ruscha to compile a follow-up to 2012's brilliant Tropical Psychedelics compilation. Predictably, the resulting collection is nothing short of brilliant. Typically eccentric, melodious, atmospheric and bristling with interesting ideas, Cosmic Vibrations delves deeper into Ruscha's archives and comes up with gold. Highlights are naturally plentiful, but keep an eye out for the psychedelic ambience of "Electric Brain", the analogue electronic explorations of "Nova Laser", and "Shockers", an acid-flecked chunk of chiming Balearic deep house with exotic, Arabic touches.

Secret Circuit, - Jungle Dogs
3
Secret Circuit, - Jungle Bones
Secret Circuit, having been knighted by tastemaker Tim Sweeney by releasing their first 12" on his Beats in Space imprint, seriously run the voodoo down with this intense jam: jungle drums, spellbinding exotic chants once obstinately nesting in your head once you heard them, cheeping, bleeping and tweeting dub noises messing with your sense of orientation, gyrating guitar chords in a My bloody Valentine style and between all this wonderful sonic chaos a slightly latin-jazz tinged piano breaks its way. A beautiful maze of a track where you easily can get lost in for the rest of this summer. On the flip Portugal's Tiago accentuates the cosmic rock vibe throwing in an aggressive guitar riff that sounds very much like Chicago's "I'm a man" and Prins Thomas chucks the looser jam-like first part of the original over board and bundles the psychedelic elements to a breathlessly, constantly intensifying pressure cooker.

shan - Versions 1
For his maiden voyage through Space, Shan (Victor Shan, if it matters to you, and it should) offers Good To Me, a pair of revelatory dancefloor productions inspired by many a long night and early morning spent at the legendary Frankfurt institution Robert Johnson. A finely-tuned specimen of durable, architectural sampling, the 12” title track runs a rigorous course of breakbeat rhythms and classic chords while a diva’s pleas are made and answered within seven minutes of perfect primetime rave. On the flip, Shan churns through metallic stabs and primed drum sequences for the devious “Version 1.” Shan spent close to four years perfecting “Version 1” through various dancefloor demos, no more evident than in the stunning arc of this sought after jam. Each 12? on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. New York City’s Momo elicits euphoria in relief atop a digital, tropical mesh. Constructed by WWFG, direct mail order copies of the 12” features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

tornado wallace - KANGAROO GROUND
2
tornado wallace - FERNTREE GULLY
Australia's one-man storm of tropical funk Tornado Wallace returns to Beats In Space Records with the acid-flecked two-tracker, Kangaroo Ground & Ferntree Gully. Where Desperate Pleasures, his first EP for Beats In Space, distilled post-punk and electro influences into sun kissed sub-equatorial tones, Lewie Day's new 12 secretes lysergide and sweat from deep within a zero gravity dance bunker. 'Kangaroo Ground' shares the buoyancy of its spirit animal namesake, but grinds in high-gear with a shredded 303 line and monstrous groove more akin to a possessed croc. The record's flip, 'Ferntree Gully' sheds its scaly acid skin for softer sines and sirens signalling Italo productions past and built to last. A score to a surfer's dream wave or a runner's last stretch, Kangaroo Ground / Ferntree Gully ornaments Tornado Wallace's discography with another shining, kaleidoscopic sonic gem. Each 12" from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. This 12" threatens all arachnophobes in a half-mile radius care of Will Sweeney's Lite-rite tarantula. The packaging, constructed by Will Work For Good, features the signature removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

guiddo with georges perin - LAST BITE
Globetrotting producer Guiddo debuts on Beats In Space Records with the Gin 'n Tears EP, three tracks of Balearic bliss featuring the soulful psalm of Greek-French vocalist Georges Perin.   The record's title track lilts like a disco 45 at 33 rpm, Perin's croon rising higher and higher above Guiddo's bassline funk and expert riffage channeling Nile Rodgers' sultry stabs. 'I Miss You Now' glides on the seductive sunset vibe of 'Gin 'n Tears', while Perin pleads to 'lose that feeling tonight' in his characteristic falsetto. The EP's finale, 'One Last Bite' captures the A-side's allegiance to the Balearic beat while riding into a pop-oriented realm that fits in with the best dancefloor ballads of the past thirty years. Guiddo elevates 'One Last Bite' with melodies made to soundtrack two lovers' farewell after a summer fling on the Mediterranean coast. Each 12" on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Nicole Ginelli abstracts the tone palette of Gin 'n Tears into a canvas of party survival tools, fittingly bright and ecstatic. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling. Physical purchase includes a free, high-quality, multi-format download.

Part-time tram driver and full-time disco disciple, Helsinki's Jaakko Eino Kalevi catalyzses street smart funk into heat stroke for Yin Yang Theatre, his new EP on Beats In Space Records. The title of Yin Yang Theatre came to Kalevi as an epiphany while dining in Washington Heights on a stateside holiday. "I was feeling bad about something and I thought that speaking out would be the solution. Almost immediately, I realized that confrontation is not the solution for every situation. The right balance is a combination of both: confrontation and patience. Yin Yang Theatre as a metaphor of life" While Jaakko's enlightened metaphor guides the six songs of Yin Yang Theatre, it does not sequester their inspiration to separate sides of the platter. Instead, the inspiration bakes a perfect pie using the tracks' irreverent and irresistibly bohemian ingredients. Following the metaphor manifestation of 'Speak Out', Ying Yang Theatre's second act is 'Pass the Cat', a step-by-step instruction manual for a midnight hour game made up on a late night during another one of Kalevi's many NYC visits (think Hot Potato gone feline). Before intermission, 'Sensaatio', a love song sung in Jaakko's native tongue, invokes the heel tripping effect of love at first sight. The undulating analog ode to Greece of 'Tecno Souvlaki' and 'Let the Energy Be Your Teacher (Part 1)' explore even softer rocking inflections of Jaakko's work at the top of side B before 'XO-Tic Grlz', a percussive deconstruction of 'Pass the Cat', quickens the EP from an introspective to extroverted finale. Each 12" on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Hiroaki Koshiba, a frequent collaborator who paints during Jaakko's live performances, composed Yin Yang Theatre's artwork in similar practice. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

2
matt karmil - WHEEL
Suffering years of servitude under the hand of the man, Matt Karmil tilled a nonplussed attitude towards sharing his creative pursuits into a garden of dance music delight. From this soulful soil are plucked the gorgeous jams of So You Say (Dirty Tape Heads Mix) / Wheel, his debut Beats In Space Records 12". "So You Say (Dirty Tape Heads Mix)" elevates a sweeping disco loop into acid house heaven with a euphoric 303 bassline and hypnotic string sample refractions. The cloudscapes form into more precise patterns on "Wheel", a filter house jam tweaked to maximum peak-induced joy. Together, both sides of Matt Karmil's 12" triumph over terrestrial concerns and relish in the heady pleasures of pure house music. Each 12" from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Susumu Mukai animates and extrapolates hieroglyphics of yesterday's dancefloor into the geometrically inclined cover art. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling. Matt Karmil's So You Say / Wheel 12" will be released as a limited edition 12" .

Dukes of Chutney is John Paul Jones and Dustin Lynn, California born brothers from other cosmic mothers who met surfing over a decade ago. The flavor of the Dukes’ musical chutney is an abstract but balanced mixture of many disciplines. Under the moniker Tom Croose, Jones' has established a beguiling production touch to various edits and remixes. Lynn is an accomplished filmmaker who has collaborated with artist Gabriel Orozco and directed campaigns for designers Alexander McQueen and Corto Moltedo. Domino was conceived over two years during which Jones and Lynn were traveling separately and frequently across multiple countries and continents. From a peyote ceremony in Mexico (chants which can be heard echoing on 'You, Me, The Chimp and Acapulco') to hunting for surf along the Icelandic coast (the cold volcanic drums and distortion of 'Jan's Bellski'), Jones and Lynn hoarded field recordings, found instruments and life altering experiences to later process and navigate in a collaborative capacity. The first Dukes recording session came together in Sausalito, CA, where Jones and Lynn began blending their globally foraged ingredients into what would become the EP’s closing track 'Caledonia'. In the midst of trading demos stemmed from this session, they were introduced to Berlin-based vocalist and performance artist Elle P. Conjuring up a wild combo of Grace Jones, Meredith Monk and Trish Keenan, Elle channels these articulate spirits through her own multi-tracking vocal technique. Although only virtually acquainted, the creative connection among Jones, Lynn and P was unmistakable. Elle soon contributed her triptych mantras and melodies to each of the dark, psycho-tropical jams Jones and Lynn laid out one after the next. Domino deviates slightly from the dancefloor conventions of the Beats In Space releases before it, but also transports the listener to the most serene and psychedelic catalog setting so far. With the five songs of the Domino solidified, The Dukes brought them to raw chef and sound engineer Benjamin Tierney for the final dub and mix at his Venice Beach studio. Each 12 from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Domino features artwork by Adam Broomberg & Oliver Chanarin, the London via South Africa duo known for politically challenging and subverting the topical photo medium. The 12 packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling. Dukes of Chutney’s Domino will be released on November 5, 2013 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12” EP Do not miss!

Aptly titled The Noughties, the latest 12" from Beats In Space Records features three tracks recorded between 2005 and 2009 courtesy of Tokyo's humbly dynamic Gonno. A dynamic producer who is clearly not afraid to nest until crucial hatch time, Gonno flies the coop with a wingspan throwing psychedelic colour at a sunburst sky. Blending a spectrum of musical influences and personal touch points about the people (and animals) he’s encountered and the implicit joy / sorrow in that exchange, Gonno’s productions blur the lines between art and life experience. Propulsive and busy but light and airy, the A-side 'Are You Asleep' tucks in the listener under a sequenced duvet ensuring proper dream state dance floors are availed. 'Salmon Is Jamming' - an ode to Gonno’s collaborator friend and WC Recordings founder who passed away - that, strides on the sweet sorrow of a longing guitar line and a building synth billow. The final phreak-phonetic cut 'Notoize' creates a fugue state cross-processing the vague, hyper-evolution of a decade that we're either catching up to or completely eating its dust. If you ask us, we're all gonners. Each 12" from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. T his 12" features the Bardo freebasing of Perks & Mini mastermind Mischa Hollenbach spanning an additional two panels of heavy duty inner sleeve.

The excellent Beats In Space label continues to impress with each release... Following up Lauer's monster Mascat Ring Down release, Eddie Rushcha's celebrated Secret Circuit project steps up once again, bringing us 'Afterlife' A typically freeform analogue synth workout with fx drenched vocals and that unmistakeable Secret Circuit vibe Who better to handle the remix than the Ukraine's very own analogue ambassador, Vakula His treatment is a textbook Vakula production, warm, expertly evolving, raw machine funk Wrapping things up we have a dub version, in the truest sense of the word, an utterly spaced out and remade rub down Typically superb artwork and shrinkwrapped sleeve packaging as you've come to expect.
