We have the dark sexy groover 'A new day begins', the sunny rhodes-driven 'Drive around the city', the smoked-out 'Haze' and the hypnotizing late-night workout 'Why do they wanna go'. Currently two of the busiest men in contemporary deep house, Alex Agore and James Johnston have still found the time to establish their joint No Matter What Recordings as a potent outlet. This sixth release sees Johnston at the buttons for sole control after a couple of split releases and the Consumer EP demonstrates a further refinement of his own distinct brand of house music. Arriving on transparent vinyl, lead track "Give Him Prozac" sets the tone with a thick four note synth lead that accrues all manner of dreamlike analogue qualities as it progresses backed by those crisp rolling rhythms Johnston is known for. "Columbo Likes The Nightlife" takes things on a notably deeper path, all dubby chords and intricate skipping percussive touches augmented by epic sweeping textures, whilst face down "And They Had Cocktails" maintains the same feel if upping the pace somewhat. Johnston ends strongly with the sublime analogue build of "The Sleepwalker".

For his inaugural outing on under the shade, James Johnston delivers a deep and heavy house workout with three original belters that all seem to evolve and grow from a slow sauntering groovers into mammoth club rumblers. Slow in tempo but huge in delivery all teeter around the lower pace of the house spectrum but as James layers them up all become so crammed with content they bust out at the seems and drive home in splendid fashion. Also included is a killer Andy Ash remix of "There is always time to change" that boosts the tempo and utilizes the underlying disco sample to devastating effect.

Again a surprising but quality release on the never dull Fine Art recordings. New promising artist the K System delivers some experimental dubstep not dubstep electronics reminding of early Rephlex stuff from the early nineties... Very interesting stuff. Final release of Fine Art recordings...!

Basic Soul Unit returns to his Herman project with an excellent early chicago influenced house track. Seriously good track that is weird and wonky with much quality in the drum programming. Very spacious without being cheeky. It comes comes with an utterly irresistible rework from Vakula reminiscent of the halcyon days of chi house. And as bonus 4 locked grooves! One of our favorite Fine Art records to date!

Fine Art with another piece of sultry nu-disco/house. This time its london's Capracara (aka Jonathan Burnip), who has had outstanding releases on DFA and Soul Jazz. This vinyl only release of Panic Beats includes (beside the original version of course) a sweet previously unrelease remix from Diskjokke, one of those hot producers from Oslo (like Prince Thomas, Lindstrom). Diskjokke just had his second album out on Smalltown Supersound but found time to deliver this sweet remix job. Comes with two endless loops in the run out groove. Fine Art is on a great run with this cool 10''... Vinyl only, check!
