Andrew Bowen & Dimitri Poumplidis, better known to the public as AnD, had accompanied REPITCH Recordings through its early stages of existence. Their two previous offerings for the Berlin-based label came respectively in 2012 and 2014, acting as cornerstones for Repitch, marking crucial points in the evolution and definition of its sound. It is only now, after a 6-year absence from the RR catalog, that the duo makes its return with ‘Beast Mode’, a five-tracker that shows no sign of giving way to softer or less energetic sounds. These are bangers: nothing more and nothing less than rave-ready, hard-thumping, bass-blasting club stompers. Ever championing of the hardest side of techno, AnD have prepared a pack of non-compromising menaces to quiet, capable of making the floor quake by means of pure, unadulterated four-to-the-floor thickness and synthetic stabbing power. This kind of attitude led them to form many kinships with similarly minded DJs and producers, the latest of which is hardcore maestro Alberto Guerrini AKA Gabber Eleganza, who turned ‘Emergency Procedures’ into an even harder affair, driving the mix into the red and turning the beat into a freakishly crippled juggernaut.

Unforgiving. Antisocial. A raw cut of the electricity inside the analogue production techniques of this extraordinary duo. AnD and their "Shadows" project is back, putting an end to the saturated scene of overexaggerated & overproduced techno bangers. Deal with it.

Tracklist: A - Cosmic Strings B - Photon Visibility Function
Short info:
"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."
After a cataclysmic entry into the Electric Deluxe fold, AnD follow up the 'Kundalini EP' with more pummeling dancefloor works on 'Dark Matter'. Over a slew of dancefloor artillery for labels such as Repitch Recordings, Black Sun Records and Horizontal Ground, this production outfit have continued to refine their distinct and menacing sound. Melding steely industrial sentiment with their own toolkit of analogue- fashioned tropes, AnD have crafted an unforgeable signature which has allowed them to freewheel through techno's many tomes-and beyond-without ever straying too far from the mark. It explains why D'n'B nestles with ease amongst the blistering 4/4 material; and suggests there could well be more fluctuations to come. But this time it's a pretty no-nonsense affair. On the A-side "Cosmic Strings" is as delirious as any stone cold Tresor classic. Then on the flip, "Photon Visibility Function" coils dark and brooding atmospherics round the most malevolent concoction of AnD-isms. This one has been made to split the club right open, paving the way for the duo's debut full-length album, 'Cosmic Microwave Background', to fill the void this Fall. Expect more cosmos-themed compositions both of and well beyond AnD's sonic system, due out in October. The sleeve artwork has been created from a series of paintings by AnD themselves, reinterpreted here by EDLX's own in-house designer Jan Willem van de Baan into a set of industrial-evoking pieces inspired by the sound and aesthetics of the EP. The album "Cosmic Microwave Background" will be out on October 20th, serving as the final high point of this year's Amsterdam Dance Event, where Electric Deluxe is hosting a showcase on Saturday in the legendary industrial building Gashouder with AnD finishing off the night.

Short info:
"In the universe, there are things that are known, and things that are unknown. And, in between, there are doors."
Having honed a clear and uncompromising sound, which has been flexed across all manner of tempos, AnD return to Electric Deluxe with their first full body of work: a sonic contemplation of the cosmos, woven with all their industrial tropes in tact.
The venomous hats and cavernous rumblings on "Power Spectrum", the caustic squeals of "Acoustic Oscillations" and the anxious pistons in "Gravitational Waves", for example, should instantly resonate with fans of the duo's wanton dancefloor works. But another cataclysmic compilation this is not. 'Cosmic Microwave Background' is a far more composed and calculated affair, which sees the AnD sound assiduously recast into long-player format.
The analogue bleeps of "Particle" and grainy textures in "The Epoch of Recombination" are some of the fluctuations that temper AnD's debut album into a solid listening experience, meanwhile exposing some of the pair's fluid and intuitive working process-with themselves as much as with their machines. Juxtaposing production precision with more freeform composition, 'Cosmic Microwave Background' as an opus is as intriguing and unexpected in its entirety as it's individual parts-for the vinyl collectors, reordered here into a double LP of functional floor material and more experimental pieces.
Not that the album is quite so black and white. There are anomalies such as "Non-Sky Signal Noise" which tread the velveteen grey area in between, with truly rewarding results. On 'Cosmic Microwave Background' AnD have found their door between worlds, and flung it wide open.

Tracklist A - The Jellyfish B1 - Dtadtmat B2 - IcDbYc
If you like your techno bruised and bleeding, you'd have taken note of Manchester's AnD. Over the last few years they've been making their presence known with a series of unbridled releases for labels like Horizontal Ground, Black Sun Records, Repitch Recordings and their own self-titled stable. "Harder" has indeed been the duo's mantra, bellowed stony-faced from the rasping recedes of industrial's brittle outer rim. But it hasn't always been this way. Before the broken bones and caustic, pitch-black tear-outs there's been deep and dubby reprieves, techy dubstep and even washed-out drum and bass on the likes of Idle Hands, Project Squared and Hidden Hawaii all with equaled astuteness. It's clear there's little out of AnD's reach, and they're certainly not bowing down to anyone. 'Kundalini' then, AnD's debut EP for Electric Deluxe, is not something to be taken lightly. The EP opens with a trio of patented AnD-style monsters, cataclysmic techno siblings all venomous and rusted through. It's a dark and unforgiving trail with these guys as drill sergeant, until "ICDBYC" that is. Not quite the calm before the storm, here we have AnD pull back from the bloody onslaught to turn a cleaner, more calculated sort of weapon. Cool and tactical shadow skulking, trimmed with IDM. This one is just as deadly!

Mancunians AnD have lead the way when it comes to the industrial techno revolution of recent times and now serve up three such tracks on Ann Aimee. Coming after plenty of great work on their own eponymous imprint. The titular track 'Ard Core Krew' kicks things off with squealing machines, huge dump piston sounds, metallic synths and brutalist kick drums. It?s a hostile world of sound in which it is easy to get disorientated, and ?Changed My View? is much the same, with every single element sounding raw, frazzled and under plenty of strain. It?s a fuzzy, dirty track with lots of detailed activity as well as huge stomping kick drums, which pin it all together. 'Free At Last' is the most propulsive and forward moving; surging as it does on a grimy brew of splintered hi hats, incessant kick drums and low fizzing frequencies. Aggressive techno never sounded so fresh!

Ground, Inner Surface Music and Project Squared have solidified their reputation for finely honed and darkly swung techno. Here they present two weighty cuts for Bristol's Idle Hands label. 'Hydrothermal' is a stripped back 4/4 excursion with rattling hi-hats and lots of bass. 'Lights Down Low' rolls along on a syncopated techno beat, with deadly snares and a droning, almost industrial feel bringing to mind the work of Regis and T++.
