Thomas Barnett - Daybreak
The third audiomatique strike derives from Detroit‘s Thomas Barnett who lays out two excellent and technoid dancefloor-tracks. On the a-side, it‘s „Thrill Of The Hunt“ coming up as a dark hunting techno bit, shooting salvoes of quirking sounds and setting traps of dark basslines and loose piano chords. Beware of the groove! „Daybreak“ on the flip side is a straight forward, but atmospheric, techy track with nice shuffling hihats, some straight guiding synthies and hypnotic strings building up a perfect bunch of effective dancefloor tools. Thomas Barnett advanced the cause of techno by forming one of its most influential labels, Transmat, with Derrick May. He hooked up with May at Detroit‘s legendary club, The Music Institute. The two recorded „Nude Photo,“ which launched the record company, and the rest is history. Producing music at a furious & often prolific rate Barnett has nearly 100 un-released tracks, with many making several DJs play-lists already, and many more scheduled for imminent release here in the U.S and Europe.
