The Detroit Threads record store has survived in one incarnation or another for more than16 years. In this time personal relationships have formed with music makers of every circle over the common bond of vinyl sound. It was a logical step to give back to this community a product that reflects the many faces that make up the store. A store that has been and will continue to be a hub for the exchange of ideas, kept alive by like minded people who still believe in the independent Detroit spirit. This spirit shines upon the unique artists that move to their own beat, and never compromise their vision. Detroit Threads gives a voice to these artists that should be heard. Nospectical is Walter Wasack, Jennifer Paull, and Chistopher Mcnamara. They are a team of Detroit sound artists that lean into e.d..m. on the minimal tip. Their comfort zone is inside of a sounds cape near the sphere of unconsciousness. Nospectical is a cool dark breeze that is alive with a pulse. They tread into strangeness and let it come together to form a neurotic world. Nospectical works to broaden the view and redefine the depth of Detroit techno. Detroit Threads is proud to support this cause.

The Detroit Threads team is at the center of a community of vinyl enthusiasts that take pride in their individual approach to sound. This community struggles to keep their vision alive though the warmth of the medium that holds a special place in the heart, vinyl. As the electronic sound evolves new faces and styles emerge to challenge the establishment. Detroit Threads hears those voices and works to give them a platform. Hou531 and .kite were chosen to represent Detrot Threads, because they are the yin and yang of the Detroit dub step movement. Hou531 has a rambunchous method of creating grinding dub step that is a release from a lifetime of Detroit pressure. Where as, .kite uses ethereal synth ambience sprinkled lightly with drum and bass to create an environment that is both sad and beautiful. These artists are under the radar, but my no means are they irrelevant.

Detroit Threads Recordings is a loose family of artists housed under Mikal Smith’s roof. Our family delights in invention, respects tradition and has a deep love for the experimental. Our ethos is hypnotism, telepathy, and mathematics working as one. We work together to express ourselves so that the way we live may not be lost. The focus of our latest e.p. is the Detroit Techno Militia. The Militia was formed to keep Detroit’s edge sharp and its’ sound underground.
