Yet another solid gold modern reimagining of the mighty Loleatta Holloway, this time her infamous 1977 smash 'Hit & Run' goes under the knife and is tweaked to devastating effect by 2 of Chicago's finest modern day editors - Jamie 326 & Cratebug. Anyone with even a passing interest in Disco or House will be more than familiar with these 2 guys names. Having edited and remixed numerous cuts in their own original ways, they take this all-time Salsoul classic and strip it right back to the essence, to the very basics, and in the process create a total dancefloor weapon. This edit originally came out a few years ago (2013) on a compilation that showcased the new wave of contemporary talent emanating from the Windy City and naturally it was one of the cuts that stood out, finding favour with a wide variety of DJ's across the board from Motor City Drum Ensemble, Todd Terry, Jeremy Underground Paris, Theo Parrish and more. Drawing comparisons with Paperclip People's anthemic 'Throw' from 1994 in the way it snatches a killer loop from 'Hit & Run's' bassline, 'Hit It & Quit It' is a monster, a record you'll literally play over and over and over again, a relentless Disco juggernaut that oozes power. It made perfect sense for this legit single-sided reissue 12" to come out on Salsoul Records, the home of Loleatta Holloway's finest material and all of her classics. Well. Where do we start with 'Deep Inside'? Originally released in the golden NYC House era of 1993, this 5 tracker literally smashed everything in sight. And still does now! The epitome of an evergreen, all-time classic release. Masters At Work Louie Vega and Kenny Dope were on a major roll in this era, producing, remixing, dj-ing and everything in-between, these guys put in ridiculous work. They are joined on this EP by a roll-call of names and collaborators, Erick Morillo engineering the title track? Check. Maurice Joshua on co-production duties? You got it. Vocals by Ms. Barbara tucker? They're there. Killer, rock hard drums? Stacks of Soul? Masterfully chopped up Disco samples? All present. Serious stuff. Sometimes a record just manages to capture and distill the true essence of what this is all about and 'Deep Inside' is one such record, it bears all the hallmarks of golden era MAW, all the signposts of what was happening in NYC's clubs in the early to mid 90's were there within it's grooves. You know a record is good when it's still being, quite literally, hammered nearly 25 years later! Now, remastered, and reissued with the full involvement of Strictly Rhythm this seminal piece of NYC House history is made available again with all original, full sleeve artwork intact as per the 1993 original. Following on from his stellar record store day 2017 double-pack, Dimitri is back with another clutch of indispensable Disco edits from his impressive archive for the legendary Salsoul label. Any self-respecting DJ or Disco-lover will be brimming over with excitement upon looking at this impressive selection of tracks, all respectfully and lovingly tweaked by Disco-Dim. Salsoul Orchestra's 'Ooh I Love It (Love Break)' kicks things off, a true blue classic, just gently touched in all the right places and extended in the best possible way. Following up is Skyy's total anthem 'First Time Around', a classic Garage groove and Dimitri's version is near perfect, again, re-touched by someone who truly understands what Disco all about! Essential stuff. On the flipside The Jammers - 'Be Mine Tonight', is another massive Garage smasher, here Dimitri almost edges Shep Pettibone's OG mix into the Boogie stratosphere, just incredible! It makes perfect sense that this amazing double-pack should finish on one of Dimitri's most sought after edits - Love Committee's 'Just As Long As I Got You', an epic slab of soulful, almost dark, Disco. The brand new WEST GRAND label has been set up to lovingly mine the tape vaults of Motown. And their debut single - under licence from Universal/ Motown - is simply superlative. It’s hard to imagine a better flrst release than MARVIN GAYE & TAMMI TERRELL’S much demand TEARS AT THE END OF A LOVE AFFAIR. Up until now the track has only been available via a limited download some years ago done by Universal to retain the right to the copyright in the master recording. It has eluded compilers of Motown CD compilation albums, and this is its’ worldwide debut release on vinyl. Tammi Terrell originally recorded her much loved solo version which was released on her only album. It became a must have for Motown and Northern Soul aficionados and the emergence of the duet with Marvin caused consternation. Nobody knew if it’s’ existence! It was even better than Tammi’s solo!! IT’S MARVIN GAYE AND TAMMI TERRELL!!! Why it did was not released when recorded is a question only Motown’s famed Quality Control department can answer. They certainly slipped up. Worldwide interest from the Soul community in this track is huge and the single is guaranteed to be an instant prized collectors item. The flip by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston was unreleased for decades and is very much a “lost and found” gem. Normally it would be good enough to make it as an A side but the mighty “Tears At The End Of A Love Affair” inevitably claims that honour.

Every once in a while a record comes along which is a little bit special, a record which stands the test of time, bringing the same reaction to the dancefloor now as it did all those years ago, and ‘Don’t You Want My Love’ is one of those records. Almost four decades after its original release in 1979, the record has become a favourite with the Glitterbox crowds, creating a seminal moment at Ministry of Sound when David Morales dropped it at the party in March 2017. Now Debbie Jacob’s timeless classic lands on Glitterbox Recordings for a special vinyl package including a re-edit courtesy of disco veteran Dimitri From Paris. The spirit of disco lives on.

The Legion of Boogie Down return for their second album inventively titled Powerdance II. It’s been 8 years since the critically acclaimed “The Lost Art of Getting Down,” was heralded by the Guardian of one of the albums of the year. This time the band of misfits add additional wonk to their future vision of music for night clubs and basements. Formed as a collective by Luke Solomon back in 2017, the music was a reaction to the continuing evolution of genre. The latest album is a continuation on a theme. This time joined by musical partner Chris Penny, rising star Josh Ludlow and original band members Alinka, Lance Desardi amongst others, the live hybrid of fusing wild synths, drums and percussion from the legendary Holly Madge, the band take you in outer space with their trippy spin on disco, funk and house music. During the 35 years of making music, Dave Lee has constantly been searching for new singers and writers to work with. A search that’s ended up with many fantastic collaborations and releases with the likes of Thelma Houston, Taka Boom, Dianne Charlemagne and Seal. More recently this quest led him to Maurissa Rose and the creation of their album ‘London / Detroit’. After hearing Maurissa's voice on a Theo Parrish record Dave reached out to her and after a few long phone conversations and mp3 swaps they both agreed a visit to London would be much more fun than trying to work together remotely. Maurissa made the journey from her home in Detroit to write and record an album with Dave at his studio in March 2022 - as they both feel that creating music together in the same room is always better. The fruits of their labour yielded 11 brand new songs (and 1 cover) tapping into their collective love of Soul, Disco and R&B, with a sprinkle of Soulful House. This album is a special one for Dave Lee as it’s the first time in his career he’s recorded an entire album with same singer on every track. In the album’s liner notes Dave talks of how Maurissa is a naturally creative person, full of ideas, warm & unpretentious which is reflected in her vocal performances throughout ‘London / Detroit’. Dave’s expertly crafted music is backed up with a deeply passionate yet effortless delivery from the Detroiter, a marker of someone who has honed and perfected their art. When it comes to the music side of this LP, Dave Lee is once again proving he’s still at the top of his game and shows no sign of relenting. Drawing from his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Soul/Funk/Disco, we are treated to a range of styles, BPMs and influences from 95bpm street soul to more uptempo disco and boogie flavours. Be it the rippling synth voyage opener of ‘You Decide’, taking the Johnnie Taylor classic ‘What About My Love’ into a modern Boogie realm, upping the tempo on the soulful houser ‘I Feel the Sun” or bringing the tempo back down to the bassy acidic chug of ‘You’re Giving Me Life’. Mr Lee is truly adept at creating a modern disco soul sound without the usage of samples. London and Detroit might be two very different cities on opposite sides of the Atlantic but this album is proof that creative synergy knows no distance.

fabric bring together Pangaea and Leonce for a pair of UKG influenced / US club tracks. “With both of us playing each other’s tracks, it felt natural to collaborate in the studio on original music. Both ‘Dusted’ and ‘Stuck’ bridge the UK and US scenes, and are the result of multiple studio sessions in London when Leonce was touring in Europe” ~ Pangaea. ‘Dusted’ is UKG influenced with out-of-this-world textures, fast paced drums, expertly-chopped vocals that build on the styles Pangaea and Leonce are known for whilst 'Stuck' takes a more restrained approach, taking influence from classic 90s US club tracks. Pangaea co-runs cult UK label Hessle Audio, widely regarded as one of the finest electronic music producers of a generation whilst Leonce has been honing his US underground Club styles with the RA Recommends critically acclaimed 2024 album, System Of Objects.
