Since 1998, Dustin Zahn's work has put his career on a steady ascent. Along the way, he has gained years of experience and unrivalled musical diversity as both a producer and performer, earning him respect among techno and house legends, purists, and contemporary DJs. He performs regularly around the world and his DJ sets are much like his releases. "I like it dark enough for the boys, but groovy enough for the girls", says Zahn. With a preference for marathon sets and his laid-back approach to life and music, heseamlessly traverses through various genres to create a unique, hypnotic vibe. As a producer, his releases on labels such as Drumcode, Rekids, CLR and his own Enemy Records have brought him international success. And his remixes for the likes of Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Green Velvet, Dubfire, Nic Fancuilli, Mark Broom, Joel Mull and more have helped catapult him into the collections of DJs everywhere.

Dustin Zahn - Next Level Looseness
Although based in Berlin for several years, Dustin Zahn has continued to exert influence over the fertile but steadfastly underground Minneapolis techno scene as part of the Intellephunk collective whilst cultivating a worldwide rep via releases for Blueprint, Token and his own Enemy Records. The ‘Gain of Function’ LP sees Zahn channelling the groove-fuelled techno of the late ’90s and early ’00s and shaping eight powerful but funky contemporary techno tracks that display the decades of experience under his belt. Forged from a series of live jams with two drum machines and two synths, the album is a refined collection of raw, purist techno brilliance. Across the A-side ‘Tell Me About Paradise’ brings shimmering staccato chops under bright and airy percussion before ‘Tangie Groove’ picks up the pace with floating pads, vocal slices, and a rumbling bassline. On ‘Lucid Dreams’, scattered percussion plays with hypnotic synth licks, while ‘Smoking in Silence’ sees off-kilter leads dancing between emotive vocals and evolving drum loops. Opening the second disc is the deep and shuffling ‘Crimson Cheeks’, with trance-inducing samples nestled between sharp drum hits and rolling synthesis, and ‘Days Like These’ takes a darker turn as twinkling arps and droning pads carry the track. ‘Shark Rodeo’ featuring Jeremy Black mangles samples into a dense rolling affair, before closing number ‘Next Level Looseness’ drops the 4/4 pattern for a raucous club track, combining oddball sound sources and unruly production techniques for a trippy finish to the album.

Dustin Zahn - Golden Hour
Dustin Zahn drops ‘Feed The Fire EP’ on Radio Slave’s Rekids ahead of full LP in November. Active since the early 000’s, Dustin Zahn’s hypnotic and driving techno has consistently caught the ears of top DJs and labels, with releases and remixes on Chris Liebing’s CLR, James Ruskin’s Blueprint, and of course Radio Slave’s Rekids. Alongside his productions, Zahn runs the Enemy Records imprint, having released music from Regal, Truncate, and DVS1 alongside his own music since 2004. For his latest offering on Rekids, which arrives ahead of his first full-length album since 2014, Zahn leads the charge with four direct and expertly constructed techno cuts. Title track ‘Feed The Fire’ makes use of a snaking synth line, evolving in tandem with the sound of classic drum machines atop a pounding 4/4 pattern, while ‘Heresy’ leans towards the twilight hours, with tripped out bleeps, chugging percussion, and deep chords. On the flip, ‘Profane Purposes’ sees bubbling synthesis alongside raucous claps and vocal cuts, making for a high octane techno bomb before ‘Golden Hour’ closes out the release, lowering the energy levels as twinkling keys, blissful pads, and dusty hats craft a warm and inviting atmosphere.

American producer Dustin Zahn readies the next release on Rekids Special Projects this April with four vigorous cuts entitled ‘Take The Throne’. Dustin Zahn has been flying the techno flag for two decades, releasing on labels like Rekids when not helming the Berlin-based Enemy Records, a label which has released music from artists like fellow US techno stalwart Ambivalent, ARTS boss Emmanuel, and Innervisions' producer Yotam Avni. Zahn is also respected for Train Wrecks, his weekly podcast series inviting members of the house and techno community to discuss a wide variety of music and industry related topics and stories. The release opens with the thumping kicks and sci-fi melodies of ‘Take The Throne’ before rolling into the dubby tones, infectious claps and rattling white noise of ‘Decorum’. The atmospheric ‘Nameless Midnight’ then follows, packed with echoing synths, tantalising effects and a twisted vocal sample that weaves throughout, arriving at the final track ‘Subtle Flex’ where escalating synths meet syncopated percussion.

America's next generation of techno producers make their Droid debut on this release. Dustin Zahn who has reincarnated himself from the stone cold sounds of labels such as Compound to the powerful yet refined style of his current releases on Drumcode and Mindshake turns
in one hell of a dark builder. Analog God starts off with a sharp rimshot / snare combination then adds just the right amount of Tresor style synth menace for a viciously addictive groove that doesn't stop kicking. Kyle Geiger, also from the next breed of Drumcode, keeps things just as tough and energetic on his mix with a focus more on flanged synth hits and double bass kicks intended to keep dancers on club floors.
