For almost as long as there have been DJs, there have been DJ tools: Bonus beats, acapellas and ambient overlays have long been the stock in trade of selectors interested in more than simple crossfades from outro to intro. But back at the beginning of 2007, Luciano put a new twist on a triedand- true idea with No Model No Tool. The inaugural release on Cadenza Split Composition, a sublabel of the iconic Swiss imprint, No Model No Tool revitalized the recombinant concept, offering DJs a selection of readymade miniatures that worked like sonic building blocks—oddly-shaped bits and pieces designed to be stacked and shuffled to the DJ's delight. In retrospect, it was a prescient move: the past few years have seen a resurgence of interest in layering, looping and Lego-like play, thanks to the rise of CDJs, Ableton and Traktor/Serato Scratch. And now, at long last, Cadenza Split Composition returns with another grab-bag of toys and tools designed to inspire. CSC02 showcases the architectural talents of Alexkid, a veteran of the French electronic scene and staple of Laurent Garnier's F Communications label, who delivers a set of origami blueprints that practically beg DJs to get their hands dirty. The A- and B-sides serve as the twin foundations: Both "El Cinco" and "Mocco" offer loose and lanky rhythms, rich with crystalline details and crusted with dubby delay. The chugging "El Cinco" might remind you of Wolfgang Voigt's classic studio 1 project, while "Mocco" follows a corkscrewing groove through a psychoacoustic hall of mirrors, all face-melting harmonics and throbbing oscillators. Both cuts more than hold their own as standalone tracks, in fact, but the second vinyl offers ample opportunities for more mischievous mixes. On side C, "Instrulentro," "Lampara" and "Fosforo" are oozy, woozy drones, reminiscent of a seasick Subotnick, while "Sheiker" coaxes supple, unquantized rhythms from a disintegrating gourd. Side D, meanwhile, pops the top on a bottle full of spirits, unleashing eerie whistles, Banshee sighs and lilting female vocals. Recalling the Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) of early 20th century ghost recordings, they turn these easygoing grooves into something approaching haunted house.

ALEXKID - Your Love Is Fading
Berlin-based Frenchman Alexkid lands on Rawax with ‘Wake Up’, a fantastic new album that explores acid from many different angles.
As an early protagonist in the 90s Parisian electronic music culture, Alexkid has been paving his own path for over two decades. Obsessed with drum-machines since his teens, he is a skilled producer and sound engineer who imbues his productions with real soul and warmth, even releasing his own lauded Ableton Live Plugins. He is a Rex club resident, released albums on Laurent Garnier's legendary F Communications and has also appeared on labels like FUSE London, Rekids, Ovum, Freerange, and
Underground Quality. With this new album he proves once again why he is so well respected by presenting eight acid laced beauties on the infamous Rawax, following appearances from iO (Mulen), Shonky, Enzo Siragusa, Julian Perez, and Diego Krause. 'Kick It' is a bristling, in your face and pricking acid banger with restless 303 lines spraying about above
punchy kicks, the mood switches up for the headier and dubbed out, but still acid laced, 'Le Manteau d'Argent', and 'Tribute' then takes you down a deeper, more shadowy and sparse late night path with a warm, bubbly acid bassline leading the way. Sublime atmospherics characterise the spacious, deeply cosmic 'Revolutions' which has contorted drums and bass making you move, followed by the physical force of acid head wrecker 'No Hiss'. The
excellent 'Idle' strips things back to a propulsive drum groove and a molten sub pattern, 'Yussuf Is In Control' is led by the sort of prying, freaky lead synth that is perfect for the afters, 'Your Love Is Fading' is a masterful track of suspensory synths and soulful vocal sounds all fused to a brightly airy house groove making this another fantastically accomplished album from one of the best in the game.

Cadenza Split Composition Series: An Introduction Minimal just got messier.Minimal techno has always been about stripping things down to their essence. Now, with Cadenza's Split Composition series, the opposite approach comes into play: building a new sound, and a new tradition, from the beats up.Each edition will consist of four sides of vinyl broken out into several skeletal rhythm tracks and a handful of
supplementary parts: ambient fantasias, shimmering drones, treated vocals, electro-acoustic collages. The series is a riff on the old idea of "DJ tools" offering stripped-down tracks meant to be mixed in
performance. But the Split Composition series vastly expands upon that idea, both in terms of format and the music itself. Drawing not only from techno but also from jazz, musique concrete, and 20th entury composition, the individual elements of every Split Composition release are also meant to stand on their own. In addition to being tools, they work as tangible traces of the artist's creative process—minimalist sketches of a lone idea or a single mood. While their primary purpose is to bring a sense of creativity and a spirit of play back to the DJ booth—supplying DJs with the raw materials to create dynamic mixes that don't play by the rules of the season's anthems—the Split Composition series is also a challenge to producers to step outside their comfort zones, playing with timbre, texture and melody in new ways. And for listeners who aren't DJs—or perhaps are DJs only in the sense that they craft endless playlists in their media player of choice—the Split Composition series offers a new way for listeners to approach electronic music. Split Composition invites listeners to play, shuffle, and rearrange; it invites them to remix the music not only on their turntables, but in their minds. If the DJ mix is famously described as a journey, the Split Composition series is the map of the back roads and hidden vistas, a map that yields a new route every time you unfold it. Cadenza Split Composition 001: No Model No Tool The first record in the series comes, appropriately enough, from Luciano (aka Lucien Nicolet and Lucien N Luciano), an artist who needs no introduction, and the originator of the Split Composition concept—an idea that stems from his uncompromising, experimental approach to DJing as well as from his many collaborative projects, including Sense Club and Narodniki. The A-side and B-side both find Luciano in prime form as he crafts two subtle, snaking percussive workouts. He's up to all his old tricks: topsy-turvy syncopations, relentless polyrhythms, sci-fi effects and unearthly treatments galore. Running 10 and 12 minutes, respectively, both tracks are a DJ's dream, offering endless possibilities for layering, interleaving, building up and breaking down. The B-side in particular channels all the darkness of Luciano's recent productions for Cadenza, sucking out the shadows so that only the structure—hard, angular, like an architecture of anxiety—remains. The C-side offers five short interludes, running between two and five minutes apiece. They range from a lilting vocal track, strangely reminiscent of Eraserhead's "Elevator Song," to innerspace explorations via FM synthesis to an unsettling duet for organ and air-raid siren. It's Cadenza's deepest foray into the dark side— so far. The D-side, meanwhile, is something else altogether. The color of an oilslick, the 15-minute track is a slow explosion of tone that evokes horns, strings, and bells, constantly morphing around an unstable synthetic center. As slow and weightless as a sleeper's breath, it makes the perfect close to a record designed to mix
seamlessly into the ether.

Ataxia - The Whistles
2
Ataxia - Hocus On Pocus
Territory: Worldwide
Tracklist:
1. The Whistles
2. Hocus On Pocus
Short Info
Ataxia return to Planet E with two club-optimized cuts that capture their rolling, characterful approach to the authentic roots of Detroit’s electronic culture. Marking the duo’s return to Planet E following 2020’s Oblivion EP and their 2023 remix of From Beyond by Carl Craig’s Psyche alias, both of these fresh tracks deliver energy tapped from a fundamental understanding of house and techno, equally charged with their punk and DIY background.
Immediately establishing a deep, hypnotic beat, ‘The Whistles’ expands into a collage of unruly samples that tour the club, the street and the true characters between. Playfully hinting at the tension between Detroit’s party people and those who would like the music turned down, the track is a steamrolling club cut that finds Ataxia going wild with their most psychedelic studio trickery.
‘Hocus On Pocus’ is a tightly wound, punchy tripped up wormhole of analogue FX and rubbery basslines, adding layers of pressure and surprising sonic twists. The result is an offbeat banger in the spirit of Planet E’s wildest moments; primed for the dancefloor but with personality to spare.

Raudive, - Tul
Under his Raudive alias, Oliver Ho has created a trademark blend of future forward house and techno that has been the sound to some of the greatest moments on our favourite dancefloors over the last couple of months. Recently labels like Cocoon, Drumcode and Pokerflat were blessed to release superb pieces by Raudive and he created enthusiasm all accross the board from Ricardo Villalobos to Sven Väth. For his Macro debut he moved a step further: The Cone EP with its 3 cuts of twisted house brings some serious madness to the club: Raudive's signature beats get a strong jazz infusion with bits of saxophone and an out-of-control piano spinning around the pumping bassline. Crazy all the way while delivering a maximum of dancefloor appeal.

Andy Vaz, - Over Here

Andy Vaz, - Hurry, Hurry

Andy Vaz, - Bygone Times
The Label Boss returns to his own Yore Imprint with another stunning solo Release. These are Different Times indeed for Andy Vaz if the EP's three mighty jams are indicative of where his music's heading. The A-side's "Over Here (A Glance Over Prime Time Mix)" roars from the very first moment Vaz unleashes its steaming, Latin-tinged groove. A far cry from the techno the Yore label head once issued, the tune finds Vaz exploring straight up dancefloor territory with a dizzying house pulse that straight up rocks. Melodies and voices rise to the surface of the Dionysian broil and then just as quickly recede, leaving room for a driving bass line to gain the spotlight. The flip's "Hurry Hurry (Before It's Too Late Mix)" is classic deep house just as one expects on Yore. A jazz-inflected strut with Tilman Ehrhorn's sax playing, wailing over waves of rollicking piano playing and spirited vocal chants. The energy level doesn't flag for the disc's final track, "Bygone Times (Nostalgia Mix)," which stokes a fiery house swing with its locomotive pulse, futuristic synth patterning, and high-velocity bass lines. Vaz's music has never sounded more impassioned and energized than it does in these three tracks and consequently, just as one might predict, Different Times feels like it's over far too soon.

Glasgow's minimal madman Alex Smoke returns to vakant with five brand new blasts of schizoid techno. For the 'Ring.Click.Tink EP' he has produced his darkest work so far. Kicking off with the venomous 'You're A Bit Rough', a gnarling beast which will guzzle the dancefloor. Next, 'Horizon' is a crispy minimal killer with crunchy percussion and scuzzy melodies. 'Gypo' on the flip is another sleazy, mutant hunk of subterrainian filth and the EP is completed with the epic 'Neds' a compelling mind-fuck that twists and throbs throughout. This is Alex Smoke at his most sinister and deadly.

Nathan Fake, - Xmas Rush

DJ Koze, - Mi Cyaan believe it
"I keep asking myself where they take all that brilliant music from. It's just as if somebody had poked a bees' nest and then it all burst out. I feel deeply connected to the Pampa Style..." (Terry Hogann, The Musical Mistress, 10/2010).
As was to be expected, Pampa is steadily developing into a platform for cross-border electronic dance music. Each Pampa release sounds different from the previous and still Pampa remains a conclusive musical planet. This is all the more surprising in the case of PAMPA005, which features two completely different artists:
Side A: Nathan Fake - Xmas Rush
Having reportedly recorded his track "Xmas Rush" in his London studio during a jam session, Nathan Fake (Border Community, Traum, SAW) has turned in a total brainfuck. It's mercylessly exaggerated, psychedelic, inexorable, and at the same time sweet and heart-warming. A very rare mixture. Unique in its consistency, we haven't heard anything like it since the 90s. It's so nice and overwhelming to have your ears exercised the right way again. Evergreen...
Side AA: DJ Koze pays tribute to Michael Smith - "Mi Cyaan believe it"
In the meantime, DJ Koze has moved on to completely different spheres. Once again, he astonishes his public with an extremely danceable version of Michael Smith's "Mi Cyaan Believe It". Having originally started off as a digital error, and recorded within a single night, this tune recalls the ruthlessness, rawness and revolutionary energy of Public Enemy. You can literally see SW1 deploying on the balcony of Amnesia, shitting down diarrhea. The rough and dry beat sets the perfect scenery for the breath-taking lyrics by Michael Smith, the great dub poet, who was tragically beaten to death by political opponents in Jamaica in 1983 (the incident sadly occurred on Marcus Garvey's birthday), alongside Linton Kwesi Johnson, and Mutabaruka, who was one of the most well-known dub poets.
