In all of his years of being a certified veteran in the world of techno - from his beginning days in Napoli in the early 90s to his celebrated status around the world today - Marco Carola never once lost grip on his main priority: letting the music speak for itself. Throughout his leagues of vital releases and endless stream of DJ dates, his focus always steered clear of sensationalized press angles, or ranking up the charts; he chose to instead keep his head down and his passions high. Carola retains a rare sense of integrity, despite being an artist who's consistently changed the face of techno. He shrugs it off modestly, claiming only to "always try to do something new." "Inspiration changes a lot," he tells. "When I was a kid, I was inspired by other people's productions, and today I'm more inspired by the energy of evolving. I'm really passionate about the progress of music. I listen to all of the promos that I get sent because I look and search for something that's new to me. For me, music is still all of my passion. I don't really do many other things - I don't run a label, and I don't have people working for me because I don't want to use up the time that should be spent on music. And I think that's the reason that I'm always looking for something new: to expand even more." With the CD and Digital editions of the album coming in the form of a seamless mix, the Vinyl edition cherry-picks the cuts ripest for DJ use and presents them across three collectible 12"s. Among the tracks featured are the bass-laden groove of The Jingle, a sonic reverie filled with a vast space of percussive layers and stuttering vocals; Magic Tribe, a playground of drums and colorful beat texture; the gripping twists and turns of Kimbo; the shuffling bassline of Lighthouse, where around each loop lies a surprising new rhythmic element; Black Box, teasing and throbbing with dynamic climbs into a soundworld immersed in shadows; melodies slowly emerging and taking shape through the aptly titled Suspense; the stomping bass weight of One Man Show's wide-eyed entertainment; and potential 2011 dancefloor mainstay Freak On. "I called it 'Play It Loud!' because I think my music is based a lot on the groove and the bassline. I don't think I ever play a record if it doesn't have a bassline. So I think the way this album makes most sense is when you actually play it on a big soundsystem. Something like an iPod speakers won't probably make much sense of it. This is just my opinion of how the album should be played: loud! The energy of the music is for that."

With his first full studio album in nine years, Play It Loud!, due for release in February, Marco Carola offers a taste of the forthcoming LP with the Groove Catcher EP. Encapsulating Carola's approach to techno in both sound and title, Groove Catcher is the Naples producer at his best, with a rolling bassline punctuated by a percussion pattern that teases out the funk of the track in Carola's trademark style: pacey and direct, but with enough bounce and fluidity to fully snare the occupants of the dancefloor within its grip and make them do its bidding. Fellow album cut, The Method, which appears on the vinyl format only, is similarly insistent whilst lighter in tone - if Groove Catcher is best employed at the peak of a club set, then The Method is its daytime terrace equivalent. Leading the EP will be the rework of Groove Catcher by Martin Buttrich, with the German producer lending the considerable talents that have led to releases on Poker Flat and Cocoon Recordings - as well as his recruitment behind the mixing desk for Timo Maas and Loco Dice - to a pair of remixes that transform the original into a different beast entirely. The Catcher Remix mutates Groove Catcher into something monstrous and intimidating, bringing a different intensity to the track and injecting it with a heightened sense of danger, whilst the Groove Remix (available on the digital format only) skews off into another direction altogether, changing up the rhythms with stuttering tribal drum patterns that you would more commonly associate with the burgeoning post-garage London house scene, all the while maintaining the flow and sensations of the original version.

Marco Carola’s string of recent releases on Plus8 and his own 2M imprint are now effortlessly hurtling forward under the weight of their own momentum and the Bloody Cash EP shows no sign of relenting. In fact if it’s possible, this collection of four new combustible tunes adds another dimension to his already substantial repertoire. On the title track Bloody Cash, Carola immediately shows his intent, letting fly with a spiraling tribal groove full of bright, crisp percussive elements that stretch skywards towards the sun. The tough, earthy beats keep everything rooted to the ground as he taps into some age-old hedonistic urge, creating a universal groove that rolls out across the oceans before breaking on the shores of each continent with an all encompassing call to dance. The main body of the track incorporates a straight synth stab doused in reverb that sets the scene for the finely crafted main keyboard riff, which is an accomplishment in itself. Alternating between two complimentary parts, it elevates the
backing track to another level. Perfectly balanced and enhanced for maximum danceability, it’s without doubt one of Carola’s finest works to date.
