2
Trinidadian Deep pres. Native Culture - Eggun
Powerful, moving, driving…”Eggun” is the latest sophomoric effort from the acroamatic, subterranean Afrophunk theurgist, Damian Lee "Trinidadian Deep" for Shelter Records. Loosely bound to the world of Afro-House, Afro-Tech and its offshoots, “Eggun” goes beyond the “Afro” familiar not only rhythmically but its spiritual essence is deeply rooted in the Yoruba tradition that often times comingle yet extends beyond the confines of the soulful House music dance floor. Contained here are two mixes that the Eggun will find pleasurable. The grooves are AWESOME! This is track is tailor-made for the serious dancer in mind. No fluff here by no means! The Main Mix is full of polyrhythmic drums that provided the bed for the chanting voices, the deep end sub bass rumbling under the jazzy, multilayered keyboards sing and wail in a rapturous symphony?Hypnotic!!!! The Native Cult mix is a more stripped down mix, no less energetic, full of that rawness that makes mixes such as these potent.

Acclaimed purveyors of magical (classic) World and Soulful grooves, Diephuis & Jephte Guillaume, release their colourful summer Afro jam, 'Baba M'fa Njika' - featuring the electrifying voice of Cameroon’s songbird, Barbara Gwanmesia. As you’d come to expect from this duo, 'Baba M'fa Njika’ is a musical feast of earthy Afro beats, hypnotic synths, infectious sax and rhythmic vocal chants, which, pirouetting around Barbara’s magnetic croon, throbs with the love, hope and gratitude that the lyrics exude. There could be no better expression of positive power than that unleashed on this gem release from the prestigious Shelter Records.

trinidadian deep - Snake Hips
Trinidadian producer and long respected deep house soldier Damien Lee Ah Yen aka Trinidadian Deep returns on the legendary Shelter label for an EP of sun drenched, soulful sounds entitled 'Tribute Songs'. This EP marks the start of a new run of releases for the newly regenerated NY house label that has long been at the forefront of the deeper end of house and garage for over 2 decades. Trinidadian Deep's latest effort see 2 brand new cuts - 'Dear Owen' & 'Snake Hips' cover a wonderfully emotive and rhythmically driven pair of cuts that can work on the dancefloor at any time of the day or night! On 'Dear Owen' gorgeous melodic pads envelope around recordings of children playing far off in the distance, weaving guitars and live percussions drive us into a dreamlike state, a truly sublime and blissed slice of music indeed. 'Snake Hips' sees things move in a more stripped back, techy direction that still maintains the TD trademark deepness, a blend of detroit leaning synth notes and live cowbells combine to create a joyful mood that will undoubtedly take the dancers off into a new cosmos, heads down and hands up to the sky. A truly original 12" here and one that sees the Shelter label heading off into a new and exciting direction for the future, essential house music.

Kerri Chandler. The Shelter NYC. Institutions. What else can be said about these pillars of the deep house community? Freddy Sanon's seminal club created a code for living, beyond the dancefloor. The ripples of which are still being felt today in dance music. The Shelter was a way of life, a sound, an ideology. 'The Shelter' was the clubs first release on it's foray into actually putting records out. To have KC drop the first record on your label was a coup to say the least, but this was actually another pivotal benchmark in an already fruitful, collaborative union between the super producer and the club / institution. As expected the energy on this record is high, it's that deep church influenced soulful house music that kicks in all the right places! An ode to a very special, particular dance-floor and moment in NYC club history. A true blue classic of it's ilk, featuring all the classic KC details, tough drums, soulful vocal snatches and vamping organs and horns. Across 4 different mixes Kerri gives us a blow by blow flavour of what The Shelter may have felt like! Classic material from beginning to end. Do not miss this one! This has always been a sought after 12" due to it's classic status and has often changed hands on-line for collectors prices. Now it is available again, re-mastered, re-pressed and re-released with permission and in conjunction with Shelter Records, New York City and featuring the original 1992 label artwork.
