Kerri Chandler. The Shelter NYC. Institutions. What else can be said about these pillars of the deep house community? Freddy Sanon's seminal club created a code for living, beyond the dancefloor. The ripples of which are still being felt today in dance music. The Shelter was a way of life, a sound, an ideology. 'The Shelter' was the clubs first release on it's foray into actually putting records out. To have KC drop the first record on your label was a coup to say the least, but this was actually another pivotal benchmark in an already fruitful, collaborative union between the super producer and the club / institution.
