Part 5 of the various artists series is at it again with 5 tracks by 5 different producers and a mixture of feel good party time music and contemplative music. You will hear familiar Running Back names like Storken (this time together with JStaaf) refining their comic tropes (or imagine Foreigner doing house music) next to newcomers like Archie Ward. His Pizza Girl puts musical toppings on a pounding underbelly that wouldn't be out of place in any warehouse, while Moritz and Amount dial it back a bit. Their respective tracks are gleaming with a special kind of elegant end-of-night euphoria that is hard to come by - and all the nicer if it happens. Remember: trance is a state of mind! Throughout his career, Roger Semsroth has followed a deep intuition for experimentation in sound, wrapping club music around eerie microtonal motifs and industrial sensibilities. This new work for Tresor takes a step forward, as the first true techno album from Sleeparchive, where his previous LPs have exhibited themselves more conceptually, or under di erent names and his Nord Vest label.
Semsroth has been active in electronic music since the late 90s. He received initial attention first for his electro productions under the alias Skanfrom and the 80s minimal synth inspired Television Set. These projects echoed his love for these sounds, which the East Berliner had steadily immersed himself with after the end of the GDR. Upon hearing the bleeps of Mika Vainio and Plastikman, he began to engage with his strain of techno. Over the last decade, he has focused on his Sleeparchive alias, which dates back to 2004. Alongside close friend DJ Pete, he performs live techno as TR-101. His relationship with Tresor began in 2011, first releasing the Ronan Point EP and following up with the crucial A Man Dies In The Street series in 2013.
With this new album, Sleeparchive's impact on the techno sound is ever more relevant. Awaking in constant locomotion, locked-in, unrelenting and dry. Sleeparchive's churning loops etch visions of tight minimalism at times densely frenetic and others serenely galactic. This predilection continues throughout the four sides on the album, eschewing conventional arrangement styles with gradual probabilistic change. Tracks such as 'Needle' and 'Peccant' o er up precise, sinewy techno. 'Leave' recalls the Detroit sound of Terrence Dixon, with its cascading synth tones and droning atmospheres. The album closes with a di erent version of 'Trust' to that found on last year's Revised Recordings EP released on Tresor, with its now-familiar nerve-inducing pizzicato strings even more at the fore with its mechanic delivery.

Roland Leesker makes another essential outing on Get Physical with new single 'No Way Out.' Landing on vinyl and digital, it comes with remixes from Detroit heroes Scan7 and the multi-faceted Francesco Tristano.
Leesker most recently appeared on the mighty Get Physical with his collaborative Roland Clark release 'WTF!' last summer and with his superb cover of 'Crazy' towards the close of the year. Now he is back with what could be his most significant release to date, a record co-produced with Neil Barber at Hot Kitchen Studios in Berlin.
'No Way Out' is a classically informed house tune with jacking drums and warm, rich basslines. An old school, Chicago-style male vocal brings a sense of edginess while twitchy synths and smooth chords are sure to get hands in the air.
Motor City collective Scan7 is a perfect choice to remix. They bring all the fearlessness, electronic soul, and staunchly underground sounds that have made them scene icons for 20 years. Their superb remix is deep and dynamic. Synth strings bring a sense of soul and serenity, glossy pads layer in human emotions, and the drums brim with vitality.
Francesco Tristano is a pianist and composer who always brings elegance to his music. He draws on a classical and jazz understanding to cook up experimental electronic music for the likes of InFine, Deutsche Grammophon and Sony Classical. He flips the track into a seductive piece of minimalism. The scuffed hi-hats, broken drums, and louche chords add up to a graceful, floating rhythm. It suspends you in mid-air as a female voice whispers and giggles in your ear with a playful sense of charm.
The 'No Way Out' package is a masterclass in house music that joins authentic roots with fresh future styles.

Turbo celebrates the 10th anniversary of Gesaffelstein’s seminal work on the
Montreal-based imprint with a long-awaited repress of all three EPs: Variations,
Conspiracy Pt. 1, and Conspiracy Pt. 2.
Every track on 'Variations' is a battle-tested bomb. Gesaffelstein’s sound is clearly
influenced by New Wave and the Gigolo-era electro (2001-2) of fellow Frenchmen
The Hacker and David Carretta, but it sounds like a fresh update rather than
pastiche, revitalized and refined down to a modern and versatile core. These tracks
work in Tiga's festival sets alongside some of the summer's biggest anthems, yet are
equally at home in a more underground setting, e.g. Von Party's 5am warm-up
before Ivan Smagghe at a London warehouse party.
The title track has the most attitude, establishing a palette of dark staccato basslines,
crunching hi-hats, hands-in-the-air cowbells and trippy synth leads. Selected Faces
and Atmosphere are arguably even more straightforward club weapons, their
breakdowns creating just enough 'insanity' without getting annoying, their grooves
dropping back in with a cool, restrained power that will win over hiss-weary DJs.
With remixes upcoming for Turbo and Institubes, a follow-up EP for Turbo in the
works... if you want an idea as to how big Gesaffelstein will get this year, just think of
him as 'Brodinkelstein.'
