Born out of a summer (and time) sadly lost forever, this new release on Souvenirs From Imaginary Cities will break your skull open most tenderly, so its fine particles of audio dust can mingle with the last rays of sunshine and the bitter storms of this autumn. Track after track, this LP draws you in with a natural flow and a deep-felt pulse, reminiscent of classic slices of raw and sample-based ambient like Susumu Yakota's 'Sakura' and 'Everyone Alive Wants Answers' by Colleen. These tunes are heartfelt, melancholic, real, emotional.

It's a very personal and unique blend of almost nineties chill out zoning with a dubby undertow, rich textured loops, mixing a whole range of crazy acoustic and electronic flavours — stuff that shouldn't work together but are dancing all the way to heaven anyways — with slow-burning, dusty slabs of melody and those deep choral pads (some Rachmaninov vesper magic in the air), everything rough around the edges and low slung but so damn precise. A subtle mélange between abstract and more concrete sonic territories, but delivered in an upfront, improvised manner with great intuition and a rough but poetic touch.

The name of this piece of swampy, chopped up but most nicely presented ambient work is ‘La Ho’, by Purpurniy Dyadya aka Purple Uncle aka Sergey Dmitriev, originally residing in St. Petersburg but living now in Armenia. Sergey has been busy on labels like Echotourist, Hair Del, Nazlo and most recently with fellow traveller Nikita Chepurnoi as Amkarahoi on Patience/Impatience. Using old tapes from his childhood times, filled with all kinds of sonic memories and Russian underground hip-hop as sample ground, he loaded up his MPC with magic dust and jammed out the basis of this LP during a summer fest near St. Petersburg
in 2021.

It's the kind of record that needs some time to really let loose its inherent power. Give it some air, let it hop along a bit and the sounds will bloom wide open. Sounds to put in an envelope and send without a return address/further delay to the last one that transformed your heart into a smoky pile of rubble — or to your sweet self, of course. Part of the proceeds from this release will go to the Ukrainian aid organisation "Voices of Children”.

Official re-release of this 'lost' 6-track mini album by New Yorker Ben Cenac (of Newcleus fame). Recorded and released in 1990 and is an absolute gem of a record - very much in the vein of Larry Heard's best recordings. MASSIVE TIP!

'A truly, dreamy, beautiful classic deep-house mini-album from the golden-post-Larry Heard era. New-yorker Ben Cenac, who was also member of electro pioneers Newcleus (and part of Sha-lor, who had a cool jazzy garage-house hit in the late 80's), shows a great sensibility and delicacy here in following mr Heard's path.

His approach is perhaps slightly more sci-fi in the synths and pad sounds, and perhaps a tad less crafted and mercurial in production than the master (i.e. less timeless), but this adds in realness and charm.

So, past the classic deep-garage dream "My Love Turns To Liquid" (in the vein of these sultry garage productions from Peter and Vanessa Daou), the rest of the record shows constant quality, with song titles that could have been (or actually have been) used by Mr. Heard himself, and a content oscillating between warming deep-house, sweet acid, lush garage and relaxed spacejazz piano parts, the whole thing also evoking the Beloved's better 'rave' moments ("The Sun Rising" etc).

This record could be studied in university as the synthesis of the deep-house scene of the early 1990s. Classic.' (Review by Restless, taken from Discogs).

A chugging, melancholy, submarine journey to the bottom of the Atlantic, presented at a lower BPM, making it equally perfect for the very beginning or very end of a set. Responding to popular demand, Warp Records is repressing its seminal Boards of Canada catalogue on vinyl for the first time in over five years.
On 21st October the albums Music Has The Right To Children (originally released in 1998), Geogaddi (2002) and The Campfire Headphase (2006) will be reissued. Tobias Bernstrup is a contemporary musician and video artist born 1970 in Gothenburg, Sweden. He received an MFA from Royal College University of Fine Arts Stockholm in 1998. Using the visual language of pop culture, video games, sci-fi, classicism and gothic noir, he has created a stage persona with notorious live performances. Dressed in elaborate costumes of skin-tight rubber suits and fetish gear, Tobias’ external appearance is androgynous. He raises questions about representation of identity, the body and physical space in both virtual and non-virtual realities. Between 1997 and 1998 he self-released two limited CD-R EPs. In 2002 his debut album ‘Re-Animate Me’ was released by Tonight Records followed by two limited 12” singles for the song “27” and the Italian version “Ventisette”.
“27” is a 5-song EP collecting 4 different mixes of the title track plus one unreleased song from the ‘Re-Animate Me’ recording sessions. The material on this EP is closely connected with the world of computer games which Bernstrup also inhabits. Bernstrup’s music is influenced by 1980s Italo disco and synth pop, reminiscent of Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode and Ken Lazlo. On the A-side is the original mix at 115 bpm followed by the Lazer Mix set to an faster beat and additional arpeggiations and heavier bass drum beats. Lyrically the song tells the story of a good looking 27-year old boy from a small town searching for love with any man who can spoil him. On the B-side are both the vocal and instrumental of “Ventisette”, the Italian translation of the song “27.” Both versions of “Ventisette” are stripped back compared to the A-side but keep the melodies in tact. Also released for the first time ever is the demo “Dirty Money” a Pet Shop Boys influenced song about male prostitutes ready for a night out working the streets.
All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. For the jacket Eloise Leigh transformed the original portrait of Tobias into a Warhol-like painted polaroid with a striking likeness to Liza Minelli with blue eye shadow and red lipstick. Each copy includes a photo postcard with lyrics and notes.
