Mukatsuku is celebrating 20 years of strictly singles only vinyl only releases in 2026
Since it was released on vinyl in ultra-limited quantities back in 2022, Summer Vee's debut single, 'Key To All Your Love', has become something of an in-demand item amongst record collectors and soul-loving DJs. Produced by fellow New Zealander Kenny Sterling, the song is a warming chunk of timeless modern soul-meets-boogie gorgeousness rich in organic instrumentation, horns reminiscent of Recloose's kiwi classic 'Dust', ear-catching percussion work and emotive lead vocals from Vee. The quality of the assembled studio band's musicianship can be heard loud and clear on the accompanying instrumental mix, which is exclusive to this reissue.

Mukatsuku is back with the second instalment of this series with four more ambient techno transmissions from Japan . These Virgo cuts were made between 1996 and 200 and released on a limited CD only release from Form@ Records but as yet never seen light of day on vinyl. The rhythms are supple and lithe, with painterly synths swirling around up top next to deft cosmic flourishes. It's deep but uplifting, heady but propulsive music for body and soul. 'New Era' captures the optimistic spirit of its title, 'Metasequoia' is a slower, more horizontal dub, 'The Art Roots' is pure suspensory bliss and 'Time Graphics' is a delightfully delicate and light blend of melody and rubbery rhythm.

Sublime soulfulness from Georgie Sweet, the Bournemouth-born, Brighton-based singer/songwriter tipped by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Jazz FM's Tony Minvielle for big things with a track taken from the ' I Swear To You' long player .On this collaboration with First Word Records Sweet's heavenly voice is very much at the centre of 'All That We Were', with dazzling close harmony work gliding gracefully across a laid back groove that slopes along in nicely lazy fashion.This release from the ever reliable Mukatsuku label gives DJs extra flexibility with a flipside version that eaves the lead lines out but leaves the groove and the soothing backing vocals intact. Sweet, in more ways than one.

He has a varied and vital discography that includes the 2023 album The Confluence from which this new 45 rpm on Mukatsuku is taken. It is a sweet soul sound, laced with gentle jazz and warm, buttery vocals that slow your heart and mind equally. On the flip is an exclusive, never-released instrumental that allows the sax-laden sounds and virtuoso musicianship to shine. Both sides are perfectly cosy and gentle accompaniments to a lazy afternoon in by the fire as winter begins to bite.

The Juks are a London based Rocksteady/ Reggae Band led by Lenny Bignell who on Mukatsuku label imprint offer up their own unique cover of Ronnie Foster's 1972 cut 'Mystic Brew,' which has long been a go-to for samplers and beatmakers. This version transforms the jazz-funk classic into a deep cut and slow-burning reggae roller with slowly unfurling harmonica leads, reverberating bass and a liquid rhythm infused with swirling psychedelic guitar textures. 'Ummh' on the flip side is just as laid back, with gentle melodies rising out of them, wah-wah effects, noodling organ lines and a jazzy hint of cosmic playfulness in the keys. Two intimate sounds for cosy sessions.

Ambient Classics From Japan on Mukatsuku features two lush filled classics from the label Form@ Record label from the land of the rising sun....First up, Shuichiro Nakazawa under the guise of Modern Living from 1998 - initially taken from the Art Form 2 compilation although it also popped up on Music From Memory's excellent Virtual Dreams collection - now gets a whole side loud playing time on vinyl to itself. On the flipside comes Virgo aka Yasutaka Sato with his gorgeous 'System For Zodiac piece, taken from the Landform Code CD, of which only 30 copies were ever made and is the first time ever on vinyl.
