Dario Rossi approaches electronic music like few others. His work as a percussionist has brought his unique rhythmic abilities to audiences around the globe. Born in Italy, Rossi combined percussion with samplers and synthesizers. His energy and talent have allowed these machines to be incorporated into his distinctive palette with very special results. 07Sep83 is his Bordello debut, with the title piece opening the four tracker. Beats cascade as analogue warmth laps the shore. Slow with a magnetic groove, elements of italo, wave and synth-pop intertwine to create a clean, bright sound that is at once familiar and totally unique. Vocals arrive with “We’ll Meet Again.” Tempos rise while keys are emboldened by rich guitar strings. Lyrics counter with a melancholic tone that shifts into hope and fortified belief as melodies rise ever higher. Paying homage to Moroder’s “From Here To Eternity”, Italoconnection deliver a vocoder dipped love affair as smouldering vocals pitch ever higher. The instrumental strips back all lyrics, but allows the breathy keys to remain and keep that human touch amidst the addictive chords and rich textures. Bold machine brass introduces “Make It Real.” These blasts form the melodic backbone for this ballad to self-belief where Ventura’s impassioned words are impeccably coupled with Gozzetti’s sparkling synthwork. That synthwork comes to the fore in the finale. With lyrics pared back, the machines sing a different song as that energy packed melody is charged with even more intensity. Balearic sounds and Mediterranean warmth are the inspirations for Bruno Belissimo’s Bordello A Parigi debut. Drawing on disco, house and funk, Ottimo! is a four tracker of electronic exuberance with Belissimo’s musical ability and range immediately spilling from the speakers. Guitar strings curve around synthlines in the title piece, percussive textures giving way to the mantra-like refrain of “Ottimo!” Thick bass echoes into beaming keys for “Meduse.” Bright notes cascade, grooves melting with vocoder lyrics as classic disco tones are reimagined in this modern mirrorball medley. Organic rhythms introduce the flip. “Mirage” opens to ripples of bongos and toms as a loose structure takes hold. Hedonistic chants rise to a shimmering chord, kicks and snares funnelling the building energy as bold blasts and samples shriek with delight. “Las Piramides De Ibiza” brings the quartet to a close. Energy Fields is Gus Paterson’s vinyl debut. One of the brains behind Bokhari Records, this four tracker melts disco, italo and house into a creamy funk fondue. Staggered bleeps and crisp percussion introduce the title piece, samples echo as a squelching thick bassline drops. Countering the fudgey strings are sparkling synthlines, bold brassy analogue bursts tethering the track to the floor. Although tempos drop for “Emotive Feel,” the energy remains high. Robust keys are further fortified by blasts from vintage machines, a free flowing groove lifted into astral jazz. Sharp beats open the flip for “Cyborg Dateline.” Soon, Paterson’s melodic skill takes over. Layers of inspiration are held together by ambling notes. Echoes of cosmic and disco are adopted, a contemporary twist delivered through the complex intertwining of elements. Paterson takes us into the stratosphere for the finale. “Jetpack Joyride” maintains the rhythm of its predecessor, pouring on the funk through daring piano lines and rich strings of double bass. A trip into the beyond from this debutant.

Selva Discos is proud to present its latest release: the EP by the band Discoteca Tropicana. This record features 4 original tracks that celebrate the rhythms that have influenced Brazilian disco music, showcasing the best of this fusion: the swing and tropical flavour that bring sunshine to any dance floor.
The project is the result of a collaboration between Kiko Costato, the enfant terrible of the Brazilian music scene, and Zé Nigro, a producer and multi-instrumentalist who has won two Grammy Awards and has worked with major names in Brazilian and international music such as João Donato, Antonio Carlos & Jocafi and Natasha Diggs.
This EP is based on 4 different themes. For each one, Kiko and Zé Nigro recruited some of Brazil’s finest studio musicians – people who work with Seu Jorge, Céu, Criolo, Metá Metá, Cidadão Instigado and Tulipa Ruiz – as well as pioneering artists from the Brazilian Black music scene, such as the backing vocalists who work with the legendary Gilberto Gil.
“Corpos Celestes” is a more classic “disco diva” track, featuring string arrangements and a grand piano, as if it were the start of the evening, a magical moment straight from the heyday of disco in the United States; “Corpo Treme” is the sweat, the vuco-vuco, a song for that moment when you’ve already let yourself go, a sprint to the frenetic rhythm of the carimbó; “Tobina” is the meeting of Brazil and Africa, from which Brazilian swing is born, an original chant straight from the Congo, with a characteristic African guitar, adapted to Brazilian rhythms, just like the afoxé. Finally, the dancefloor hit “Não Pode Acabar”, a more urban disco track, which works just as well for kicking off a party with the right vibe as for closing a set with the highest energy.

Released in 1979 in the vein of Cerrone and Giorgio Moroder, ‘Hills of Katmandu’ is a unique, progressive slice of classic Italo Disco. The pulsating ‘Moroder-on-steroids bassline’, menacing female vocal and warbling synths take you on a trippy disco journey. The track became a huge dancefloor anthem at legendary clubs such as The Loft and The Saint in New York and Baia Degli Angeli in Rimini.
Originally available on vinyl in 1982 on San Francisco’s “Hot Classics” DJ Service”, Patrick Cowley’s “Original Underground Mix” is a work of pure genius that unleashes his skills on the synths and somehow manages to surpass the original.
High Fashion Music have enrolled Ben Liebrand to restore all the original remix-tapes, managing to re-edit and adjust each and every nuance to perfection, taking away any and all flaws which appeared in the original and it’s acetates, so that it is now steady preserving the original Hi NRG sound.
This is the first time this restored and upgraded version has been released.
On the flip-side, there is the original 16’20 minutes version of the Jurgen Koppers mix, an extended re-edit of the original Celso Valli version, which appeared first on Disconet in 1979, and in the following year on the US (Importe/12) release of the “Tantra – the Double Album” longplayer.
