Up next, Solo Sound "We Are The Crew (Called Solo Sound)" delivers a swampy, lo-down slice of cosmic funk primed to rock any block party. On the flip is an alternate Philly flavoured take on TJ Swann's 1981 jam "Get Fly." This time Dave Lee re-tracks the MFSB backbone, putting his remixing prowess fully on display and landing squarely in the dancefloor sweet spot. Over the last half decade or so, Monsieur Von Pratt has marked himself out as one of the 21st century disco scene's most reliable re-editors, with a party-starting trademark sound built around blends of borrowed instrumentation and rolling, house-style beats. This signature sound is very much evident across the producer's tenth contribution to his own Illegal Disco series. He begins by polishing and tooling up a sparing, horn-heavy disco classic 'Don't Say Goodbye', before rearranging and lightly updating a squelchy synth-bass propelled chunk of disco-boogie goodness ('Gonna Getcha'). Nick Bike rides again with a new trip out on his Chosen Spokes label, and as always, these are on the money mixes for dub disco heads. 'Kiss Me Say It' is devilishly slow and purposeful with rotation dub and funky bass riffs rising and falling to irresistible effect. The strings bring sophistication and the chords a golden charm that swells the heart. The groove feels ever on the rise but never boils over. The flipside dub is even more focused, with the diva vocal doused in echo for a spaced out vibe. Pure perfection.

Vintage Pleasure Boutique once again dives deep into the vast catalogue of super-productions by Roberto Zanetti, better known as Robyx and Savage. This time, the journey takes us back to 1984, unearthing a true gem created at the suggestion of Marco Bresciani, Italian DJ and producer, and the same creative force involved with Radiorama. Zanetti delivered flawlessly. He transformed the elegant, high-grade British synth-pop original by OMD into a first-class Italo disco weapon, infused with that unmistakable sweet, melodic touch and fat kick that blended perfectly in clubs alongside genre-defining tracks of the era. “Souvenir” by Saxophone quickly became a classic, a staple of the sound and a cornerstone in countless old-school DJ record bags.

Today, original copies are scarce, highly sought after, and often prohibitively expensive on the secondary market. This reissue is both a tribute to long-time fans of the record and a nod to devotees of Robyx’s unmistakable sound. The vinyl also features a special remix of “Souvenir”, sonically aligned with Savage classics such as “Radio,” “Fugitive,” “Only You,” and “Don’t Cry Tonight.”

Double Je is Hypnotique’s third release on Bordello A Parigi. Following the successes of La Pénombre and Solitude, the trio of Sergio Mesa (IAMNOTAROBOT), David and Maia Jornet have reconvened for a smouldering three tracker. Vocals scale soaring synthlines in the title piece. Melodies dip and swoop like birds in flight. A beat throbs as Maia’s lyrics sail ever higher in this tale of misguided romance and impossible answers. The instrumental version allows the track’s intricate synthwork to take centre stage. Drums snap that bit tighter, gentle pads lapping against the pulsating basslines and addictive hooks. Tempos drop on the flip, the B-Side being dedicated to “Dark.” Slender keys rise above a steady kick before a rumbling bass takes hold. Vocals take spoken word form, their message and mood shifting from resignation to resilience and then resolve as the track becomes ever more emboldened. A truly fantastic return from a uniquely talented group.
