Soul Quest Records returns with Maintain Altitude 2, a fearless, floor-focused statement that
captures the pulse of London’s underground while stretching its sound across borders. This
second instalment doesn’t just build on the energy of the first; it elevates it, locking into a groove
that feels both timeless and future-facing. Deep house, broken beat, jazz-infused electronics it’s
all here, and it hits hard.
Opening the release, Slxm Sol - Lead The Way sets the tone with lush Rhodes chords, rich
low-end warmth, and unmistakable soul. Featuring the hypnotic vocals of Legzdina, the track is
a late-night guide through deep, emotive house, refined, immersive, and quietly powerful. It’s a
statement from an artist who continues to define the label’s sonic identity.
Next up, Max Sinàl & KingCrowney - A Bit Mad deliver exactly what the title promises, a loose,
live-feeling cut that fuses UK jazz sensibilities with broken beat energy. KingCrowney’s trumpet
work dances over Max’s signature production, creating something raw, musical, and undeniably
London.
Amsterdam’s rising talent steps in with Misto Kay - Bruklynn, a playful yet intricate debut on the
label. Jazz-rooted keys meet unexpected rhythmic turns, keeping dancers guessing while
maintaining a deep, rolling groove. It’s fresh, musical, and full of personality.
Lisbon-based producer Berkeley Hunt - Speed Jazz follows with a dusty, high-tech jazz heater,
swung drums, chopped samples, and synth lines that blur the line between experimentation and
dancefloor pressure. It’s gritty, it’s clever, and it absolutely slaps.
Returning to the fold, Real Love Seeker - Mood Swings taps into that golden-era 90s house
feeling, think Mood II Swing energy with a modern edge. Soulful, driving, and built for

Closing out the release, Streeton - Ride (Feat. Faro) brings broken beat back into focus. Faro’s

Originally released in 2010 via Jesse Rose’s Made To Play label, Oliver Dollar’s ‘Doin Ya Thang’ has gained iconic House track status. Italy’s own L.D.F. returns with a fresh slab of raw, analog funk - pressed to wax and destined for selectors
who still worship the turntable altar. Known for his dusty drum programming, hardware-led studio rituals,
and a deep affection for the roots of house music, L.D.F. has steadily carved out a niche in the European
underground. His sound fuses Mediterranean warmth with Midwest grit - always rough-edged, authentic
and geared for the dancefloor.
His new vinyl-only EP entitled Tribute To The Latin Posse doffs its cap to early Chicago house - where
808’s snapped, synths hissed, and basement energy reigned supreme. Across five tracks, L.D.F. links up
with a heavyweight group of collaborators: Javonntte, Gari Romalis, Tilman, and Böhm. The result is an
EP that feels like a dusty box of DAT tapes discovered in an old storage unit - raw, immediate, and locked
into the groove. A study in machine rhythm, analog imperfections, and the timeless swing that defined the
earliest iterations of house.
Crunchy 808s punch through the mix on You & Me as deep stabs flicker like neon in a fogged-out
warehouse. A syncopated analog bassline snakes beneath it all while Javonntte and Tilman’s touch
elevates the track into a proper late-night mover - raw but undeniably soulful.
Tribal Dance is a stripped-back, early-90s-house-inspired workout. Drum-machine sweat, looping
percussion rituals, and hypnotic patterns built for dark rooms with low ceilings. Pure basement energyminimal elements, maximum impact.
Flip over for The Freaks (feat. Böhm) where shuffling house drums and a gritty groove define the cut.
Simple, repeated stabs lock into a trance-like rhythm while subtle rave accents flash at the edges. Böhm
adds just the right shade of tension to keep dancers suspended in motion.
Next up we have In & Out (feat. Gari Romalis) which is a deeper roller draped in filtered pads and
chopped-up vocal fragments. The drums hit with Detroit-born precision while the atmosphere drifts
somewhere between smoky after-hours and dream-state house meditation.
Closing the EP we have Light Speed (feat. Javonntte), an 808-driven DJ tool and this one is pure
propulsion. Javonntte delivers his unmistakable vocal flavour - loose, soulful, and charismatic - over a
skeletal, high-velocity rhythm. A perfectly stripped finale.
The underground keeps its secrets. Shadow Pressings simply amplifies them.

Tucked away in the great depths of the Warp catalogue is this elegant, liquid heartache of a record. An album credited to the late James Stinson, one half of cult-Detroit techno unit (alongside Gerald Donald) Drexciya, Lifestyles... stands as one of the remarkable records of the genre. Stinson died a year after release, lending this already beautiful work endless resonance.
Where the dystopian aqua-tronics of previous Drexciya were often jet-black, cold, brittle and abrasive this is a yearning soul music, played out down rain soaked streets, the buzzing lights of industry flickering in the darkness, the warm blue of a new day ready to break. This is a record where techno reached its raw, most emotive peak... Sustained pads paint minor-key melodies while electroid-vocals are buried deep in the hydrothermal mass of squelching bass-clusters and funky-filtered bleeps. At its skittering percussion core, a stripped back 808 tapestry, sequenced into myriad jazz-inflected shapes, a pulsing kick drum the snapping heartbeat, ticking hi-hats bursting from every angle.

All this tingles with the ghosts of records past, of Kraftwerkian humanoids, of first-wave Detroit, of refracted Hancock and Ayres, but as Stinson intones on the fifth track, ‘let me be what I wanna be’, Lifestyles is a creation all of its own special making, a sound that would inspire the latter day deep-house machinations of Omar S, Jus-Ed, Moodymann and influence –however indirectly- a wealth of current UK/US bass operators including Actress and Kyle Hall. More importantly it remains a beguiling epitaph to Stinson’s sadly distinguished life.
