Acid Pauli - Den Mahlstrom rauf (Adiel Remix)
GENRE/S:
Electronica, Breaks
TRACKLIST:
A. Den Mahlstrom rauf
B1. Den Mahlstrom runter
B2. Den Mahlstrom rauf (Adiel Remix)
SHORT INFO:
For Martin Gretschmann, the ever-evolving Berlin artist known as both Acid Pauli and Console, music has always been a deeply personal journey.
His new imprint, All Is Acid, is the destination, a creative home for his uncompromising and experimental sound. Breaking from the cycle of trends, the label is a return to the essential, offering just a few curated releases a year. Each is intended as a timeless artifact for deep listening, primarily showcasing Acid Pauli's own intricate and intimate productions.
The label debuts with a newly remastered version of his classic 2010 EP "Den Mahlstrom rauf." But the release is given a powerful new dimension by a standout remix from Italian artist Adiel. Their collaboration was sparked by pure serendipity: a fan video of Acid Pauli playing her music in Milan reached Adiel, who responded with a short film for Vogue. In it, she revealed that "Den Mahlstrom rauf" was a formative influence and one of the very first records she ever bought.
Inviting her to remix the track that helped shape her sound was a full-circle moment, artistically and emotionally. Her bold, reverent reinterpretation honors the original's spirit while imprinting it with her own unique signature. With this release, All Is Acid launches not just with music, but with a story of connection, community and a shared artistic lineage

Release Info:
“Basically my albums have developed into my personal field of experimentation” says Martin Gretschmann, aka Acid Pauli. Known primarily for his psychedelic, leftfield club sounds that weave between slo-mo beats and deep burners, his EPs, remixes and collaborations have generally been more focused on the dancefloor. With his latest album, MOD (his third full-length released on his own Ouie label), Gretschmann goes in a tangential direction, drawing inspiration from modular synthesis and the scene that has flourished around it over the last years. The result is an album produced almost entirely with modular systems, inspired by the possibilities and restrictions of carefully shepherding machines that sing to themselves.
“I know a lot of people who somehow found themselves and electronic music in a boring dead-end alley, and who have now found completely new worlds through modules”, he explains. Experimental as MOD may be, it certainly isn’t ‘difficult’ or inaccessible - or as someone put it, the nine tracks here are “soft, elegant, fluent, dreamy - the tracks achieve the effect of space-time morphing - magical states”.
The album is best heard as one continuous piece, allowing it to unfold its delights gently. Most of the tracks were recorded live in one take - often with Gretschmann recording up to 10 different versions before choosing the final piece. Propagating Flip Flops starts things off - its glitchy textures and sync-shifting set the scene for the album - the sounds evolving and developing before resolving into a warm, ethereal tone. Intellijel Bell is made up of deep loops of rhythmic sounds, while metallic sounds and a submerged jazzy undertone hint at the classic Acid Pauli sense of fun. Acid On Yusef uses looped up rhythmic pulses and bass tones, joined by modulated beeps and blips. A touch of that iconic liquid acid sound pulls it together and gives the track its name. Sublime Frequencies Of Cairo is another beatless, floating collection of loops that shift and morph - seemingly suspended in space, before an ambient orchestral element resolves the track.
As the title suggests, Du Brecht, Ich Dub revolves around a bass heavy sound, building up a rhythm of disparate elements that develop into a tense yet somehow weightless groove. Life Polarizer is further evidence that an Acid Pauli album will always somehow drift back towards the groove. The track works the effects pretty hard - sounds pinging between left and right and ebbing and flowing into the mix. Peace Waer Schoen also makes heavy use of delay to create a dubbed-out, wonky feel. The freedom of getting away from computer based production is referenced sardonically in Quantize Hell - its bleepy sounds find a rhythm and progression outside of the grid. Finally, No Kick, No Cry brings the journey to a close - it’s the first and only kick drum of the album and adds a structure to the magical unpredictability of the looped sounds.
The album’s artwork perfectly reflects these sounds within - created by musician and artist Billy Caso. Each track is also accompanied by a minimalist video, created with a device from this modular world - the "Vidiot". It’s clear that in MOD, Gretschmann has produced a homage to the modular scene that might inspire as many people as it delights.

Acid Pauli - Shakmat, but happy (''Pauli’s Psychedelic Breakfast'' Take 9)
Tracklist:
A1. Dancing In The Trunk
A2. Goran Utan
B. Shakmat, but happy (“Pauli’s Psychedelic Breakfast“ Take 9)
Release Info:
Acid Pauli is back with another three-track EP on the label he co-manages with friend and collaborator Nico Stojan. This EP, self-effacingly titled 'Had to get rid of some Shit', showcases Martin Gretschmann’s dancefloor prowess yet again. 'Dancing In The Trunk' is a hyped-up loopy banger - minimal in instrumentation but fully psychedelic in execution. 'Goran Utan' has a deeper, darker edge, with a tension that will tighten the grip on many dancefloors. 'Shakmat, but happy' appears in 'Pauli's Psychedelic Breakfast Take 9' and is a slow-building, loop-based groover, eventually opening up to reveal tinges of acid.

Acid Pauli - Amadou (Stimming Remix)
2
Acid Pauli - René (Roman Flügel Remix)
3
Acid Pauli - Jeanne (Axel Boman Remix)
4
Acid Pauli - Jorge (Satori Remix)
Tracklist:
A1. Amadou (Stimming Remix)
A2. René (Roman Flügel Remix)
B1. Jeanne (Axel Boman Remix)
B2. Jorge (Satori Remix)
Acid Pauli's album BLD dropped earlier this year and was a superb reminder of Martin Gretschmann's unique place within the electronic music. Breathing musicality and adventurousness into everything that he does, the album covered a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. Following on from the "A" remix package, "B" brings another huge selection of producers into the fray to reinterpret the originals.
First up, Hamburg hero Stimming works over 'Amadou' - flipping the original, into a techy bomb. A thick kick underpins a shuffling, off kilter rhythm and beautifully treated melodics. Stimming's feel for gently pushing the dancefloor into new places shines through.
'René' is reworked by Roman Flügel, the Ongaku/Klang/Playhouse boss whose influence on the European electronic music scene has been immense. Always willing to experiment, 'René' is the perfect canvas - arpeggiated blips and beeps echo primitive electronic explorations by the likes of Francis Bebey, and a huge subby kick drum take this track into space.
Alex Boman sets to work on 'Jeanne', locking into his signature groovy, tribal approach to working the dancefloor. The Swedish producer adds dubby elements, an irresistible percussion track and disruptive, random sounds to the thick, heady mix.
Dutch wunderkind Satori tackles 'Jorge' - twisting the original into a psychedelic groover that finds room for backwards vocals, marimba-like melodies, fat basslines and shuffling breakbeats.

Tracklist:
A1. Abbebe (Sainte Vie Remix)
A2. Baris (Oceanvs Orientalis Remix)
B1. Ayam (Red Axes Remix)
B2. Majid (Nico Stojan Remix)
Info:
Acid Pauli's second album 'BLD' dropped earlier this year to a rapturous reception. Martin Gretschmann's trippy opus took in various stops around the musical spectrum, yet remained committed to quality dance-floor tracks that refuse to follow any particular rule book.
This collection of remixes of the album's A side (hence the name) only adds to that achievement - bringing yet more new flavours and takes from some of the most exciting names in the underground.
'Abbebe' gets a rework from Sainte Vie who brings his trademark 'multicultural electro' sound to the album's opener, and produces an ecstatic mid-paced groover for the heads.
Oceanvs Orientalis drops a similarly exciting rerub, finding new angles and dimensions to the track 'Baris'. Tel Aviv's Red Axes turn up the psychedelica for the duo's amazing dissection of 'Ayam' - deep sounds immersed in acidic tones and tight-yet-wonky arrangements. Lastly 'Majid' gets the treatment from label co-head Nico Stojan who produces a sleek and spacy remix that will delight the early morning ravers.

Info:
Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan's label Ouïe proudly presents the original film score and soundtrack album for the new German moive 'Es war einmal Indianerland' which translates into 'Once upon a time in Indian Country' which is centered around brand new songs by Acid Pauli.
On this vinyl version you'll find a fine selection of new workls by Acid Pauli that are taken from the soundtrack.
Imagine you're 17 living in the tower blocks at the outskirts. The air is glimmering: summer. The night Jackie stole your heart. At the outdoor pool. Her red hair. Imagine how sparks emit out of happiness. Bang! Your world is unhinged: Zöllner choked his wife. Edda, the 21 year old from the video store is chasing you. You enter the ring with buddy Kondor. Again and again you think you saw an Indian. And at showdown an almost biblical thunderstorm arises. Is that what it feels like - the adventure of being young ?
A 17-year-old boy is at the odds with himself and the world. Pretty normal. But the coming-of-age-story "Es war einmal Indianerland" is not normal: it's exceptional. Thrilling. Imaginative. The narration is virtousic, just as the attendant nominated novel by Nils Mohl who also wrote the screenplay - in collaboration with Max Reinhold. A psychedelic city-western ! Charged with pictures full of symbolism that are composed into a hypnotic whirl by Ilker Çatak - who won the Max-Ophüls price and who has been distinguished with the student Oscar for " Sadakat ". Another highlight : the outstanding cast. Newcomer Leonard Scheicher (" Quellen des Lebens ") as protagonist Mauser in between Jackie played by Emilia Schüle (" Ku'damm '56, " Jugend ohne Gott "), and Edda played by Johanna Polley (" Mumbai "). In additional roles there's Clemens Schick (" James Bond 007 - Casino Royale ", " 4 Könige ") as Mausers father, and Joel Basman (" Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter ") as Mausers pal Kondor.
Equally exceptional, thrilling and inventive as the film that will be aired in cinemas on 19th October, is the soundtrack of Es war einmal Indianerland. The soundtrack of Acid Pauli aka Martin Gretschmann (The Notwist, Console) plays a central role and originates from the close collaboration between Acid Pauli and director Ilker Çatak. " When I confirmed the film project, I was at that time constantly listening to Acid Pauli's music. Everytime I looked at the screenplay one of his mixes were playing. So I thought : it would be awesome if the film was accompanied by this kind of music. " says Çatak.
Acid Pauli's music, as prooved on his BLD album, is as eclectic and adventurous as Acid Pauli himself : from dystopic, carnivalesque moods via moments of high intensity to deep melancholia and fragile atmosphere - boundaries are being teared down. Sometime psychedelic and far out, sometime focused, catchy with one eye on the dancefloor. But never expectable. A musical work for the adventurous.
This was the basis for a close collaboration, a joint journey to Mexico and the fascinating soundtrack of an exceptional film.
'His œuvre is much more than the stuff he made as Acid Pauli. And that's what he offered me - it was like you're going to a lake but instead you see an ocean.' says Ilker Çatak. 'He always grasped what I was looking for. The soundtrack is a mixture of his old and new tracks and music of artists that he knows.'

Info:
Acid Pauli is a name synonymous with certain aesthetic towards electronic music culture - both a part of the unhooked generation of that grew up experiencing his revelatory sets at places like Bar 25 and Fusion, and yet deeply rooted in musicality and adventurousness. BLD, the second full album from Martin Gretschmann, (aka Acid Pauli), builds on his already impressive back catalogue which spans back to 2005, and includes a debut album released on Nicolas Jaar's Clown and Sunset.
Over the course of the eight tracks here, Gretschmann explores some of the many facets that have made him one of the most trusted artists in his field. Released on his own (and Nico Stojan's) label Ouïe - the album is the perfect expression of the imprint's commitment to diverse, exciting sounds, freed of the conventions of traditional club music.
The album covers a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. Gretschmann's well documented love of the sampler shines throughout - tracks are textured and colored with different hues from his extensive sound palette, whether it's a part of his more psychedelic moments, or concentrated on his innate knowledge of dancefloor dynamics.
As such BLD sits together as a complete piece of music - to be relished just as much by blissed out home listeners as the left-field dancers.

The first time I met Acid Pauli, I didn't know it. I was in search of a lighter outside of the Salon Zur Wilden Renate, a bar in Berlin. It was quite late (or early, depending on how you look at it). I had been living in Germany for less than a week. I approached a man that had been moving some equipment nearby. He didn't smoke, he explained, but he produced a book of matches-- almost out of thin air. He had excited, Romanesque features that threatened to overwhelm his face as he spoke. He introduced himself as Martin.I moved to Berlin after quitting my job as a journalist covering culture for an inconsequential (albeit progressive) Middle Eastern magazine. Days after I left the region, the first protests began in Tunisia. I visited Renate that week because Nicolas Jaar recommended it when we met in London around Christmas time. When I mentioned that I might move to Germany, he brought up Acid Pauli-- which is how I first found out about his Johnny Cash interpretation, "I See a Darkness," and some of his other projects with The Notwist. A few nights later, I returned to Renate, observing from afar as Acid gently wrangled the dance floor. His set activated a space that was both free flowing and eclectic-- the opposite of what I had expected (however ignorantly) to find in Berlin.I tracked Acid down after he finished playing and introduced myself properly this time. Eventually, he explained that he had just completed an album for Clown & Sunset. He called it Mst. After pleading with him to let me listen, he handed over a miniature mirror that doubled as a USB drive. It was an appropriate medium for an album that acts reflexively. Each of the nine tracks coaxes your attention, and then plays with it like the hall of mirrors in a funhouse. Songs accelerate or breakdown without warning, before leaping right back into the rhythm or alternating into a new one. Acid Pauli's voice never appears, and so you substitute your own internal monologue-- whether you're waltzing to "(La voz) tan tierna" or weeping to "Eulogy to Eunice." I saw Acid Pauli a handful more times that spring before he began touring with Nico. And despite our conversations about the album, it was not until months later that I realized Acid isn't trying to tell stories with his work. His aim is more holistic than that. Mst extends the atmospherics past the dance floor, refracting the idiosyncrasies of our existence back into our everyday lives.

2025 Repress
UPC: 827170537965
Tracklist: (A) A Little Further (Not On A Map) (B1) A Little Further (37 Routes) (B2) A Little Further (Imaginary Escort)
With Dominik Eulberg and Arne Schaffhausen (of EXTRAWELT) we welcome back two longtime Cocoon heroes to the label. The two were featured in a VICE Magazine special last year for a "field recording" documentary which marked the beginning of a new collaboration. Dominik and Arne checked their fresh recorded sounds in the studio and found out that there have a common base and musical understanding. They started to work on new tracks and it looks like this joint venture will continue for a longer time.
The first results of their mutual work is "A Little Further" which will be released in three different versions on Cocoon Recordings in the next weeks (COR12117). So let's start with "Not On A Map" version: This one seems to be tailor made for the next afterhour and the rising sun. Dominik and Arne create the perfect mood for those special moments on the floor with a nice mix of energetic beats, interesting sounds and an emotional bass- and synth-programming. So many layers and different levels however the overall picture never gets overcharged or too demanding.
Coming up next is the "37 Routes" version which quite stands out with the used breakbeats and no standard 4/4 kick drum. The synths are more scratchy and louder and the bassline seems to jump out of the speakers, this is a massive wall of sound production. The direction here is clear. However the two incorporated some cool and magic breaks that seem to refer to the deeper Eulberg sound which forms a great mix of two different techno-visions. Last but not least there's the "Imaginery Escort" version which appears a bit like the dub edit of "A Little Further". This one emphazies the cool and reduced beat programming. The "Imaginery Escort" is more DJ-friendly and without the big breaks, it keeps the rolling beat going and going and we see the floors burning to this cool groover, too. One of these tracks DJs can't wait to drop them in their sets! All three versions make a great package and a big release that breathes pure techno air. No pseudo-retro-hype and no tech-house-mash-up, this one is just techno. Big techno! And it makes us even more excited looking forward to the upcoming festival season!

4. SHORT INFO:
It's been 10 years since Pomegranates - Nicolás Jaar's unofficial/alternative soundtrack to
Sergei Parajanov's 1969 film The Color of Pomegranates - was first released, and to highlight
this occasion we are reissuing the album on vinyl, with the first edition (a collaboration with
the label Mana) having long been out of print.
Longer and slower-releasing than his other albums, Pomegranates often parallels the
cinematic epic on which it’s based, with ideas pursued over long timelines and
across dark landscapes, assembling elements and moods from the aesthetic and folkloric
landscapes of Armenia. Jaar’s identity is perceived within this, folding in his heritage as
Palestinian and Chilean as he attempts to build a musical architecture outwards that frames
as much of the mess and sprawl of life as possible; using a language that investigates the
movement and fluctuation of his own artistic career and character similarly to the film’s tracing
of the coming of age of the young poet, Sayat-Nova.
At times, Pomegranates feels profoundly intimate, as though looking through the archive of a
friend’s music and discovering the accent and common currency that lives within each of
these tracks. Much of Jaar’s most elegant and touching melodic work is nestled here, its
power residing in its simplicity and willingness to speak to the heart and not the mind of the
listener.
In the text document included in the first freely distributed version of the album in 2015, Jaar
writes that the album was conceived during a moment of change, and that the pomegranate
became an icon that heralded that passage of time. The physical publication of Pomegranates
closes one door whilst opening another, keeping promises and marking a significant point in
the career of an artist who restlessly reinvents himself, with a document that illustrates a
common language of lyricism, freedom, and emotional resonance linking his many paths and
projects

With Until Night Comes, Larry June and Cardo reconnect to deliver a nocturnal cruise through laid-back luxury and introspection. The album feels like a slow ride through the city just after sunset-windows down, sky fading from gold to indigo, and a calm confidence guiding every turn. It's Larry at his most self-assured and reflective, balancing the cool ease he's known for with sharper focus and deeper pockets of honesty. Cardo's production is smooth and expansive-built on warm basslines, polished synths, and sample chops that stretch like the dusk. Together, they create a cohesive soundtrack for night owls, hustlers, and anyone chasing peace in motion. The album continues to refine their seasoned partnership, evolving into something even more purposeful. No wasted energy, just clean living, big vision, and a reminder that progress doesn't stop when the sun goes down. Features include E-40, Black C, Don Toliver, Payroll Giovanni, HBK, Wiz Khalifa & Richie Rich. Good Job, Larry.

Release Info:
Not content with defining the sound of minimal techno in the nineties, Robert Hood has more recently fine tuned his own gospel tinged take on the genre. It comes under the Floorplan moniker, the genesis of which is said to have come to him when awakened by a late night vision. Since 2016, it has been a collaborative duo between Hood and daughter Lyric, and never fails to lead to religious experiences on the dance floor.
With roots in the Detroit techno scene in which Hood first emerged, Floorplan’s sound is embellished with the heartfelt emotions and unbridled passions of Chicago house music. It is heavy and analogue and filled with vigour thanks to the expert drum programming and ever rising sense of euphoria that comes from the well sculpted synths. But it also speaks to the heart and soul and has done since first standout cut ‘We Magnify His Name.’ The pair’s endless quest for the perfect groove continued through albums like 2013’s Paradise - which spawned anthemic singles like ‘Let’s Ride, ‘Baby Baby’ and the massive ‘Never Grow Old’ - and 2016’s Victorious.
The same year saw Hood’s daughter Lyric officially become part of the project. Since then they have taken Floorplan to endless headline shows at high profile clubs and festivals everywhere from New York City to Ibiza, London to Amsterdam. Their electric sets leave crowds feeling uplifted, spiritually awakening and totally in awe. Part of the success of Floorplan is the combination of Robert’s old school excellence and Lyric’s new school innovation: their music, with its big chords and even bigger vocal samples, could be 30 years old or fresh from the pressing plant, such is its universal sense of appeal.
Another new album is due on Aus Music in winter 2019 and once again distills the power of techno and feelings of house music with a certain sense of studio magic that emerges when this iconic father-daughter duo come together. It is rare to make music as stripped back yet emotionally enriched as Floorplan, but this pair do it with ease and a firm focus on durable grooves. Functional but full of form, tense but atmospheric, loopy but ever evolving, Floorplan truly transcend the dance music spectrum.

A-Trak, Mele, Aroop Roy, Josh Ludlow, ALOT on Toy Tonics? Yes! The Berlin label comes up with a heavy package of remixes for Sam Ruffillo & Kapote’s „Robot Salsa“ EP.
The Latin House EP by the 2 Italian producers. This stuff is the perfect floor fillers for the summer of 2025. While the Afrohouse wave has reached its peak and is becoming a bit „tacky“ a lot of underground DJs turned into playling different styles of latin music connected to electronic dance. And here we got Salsa and Boogaloo turned into 90’s house and indie dance. All of these will make the dancers get their hands in the air. Smiling faces and lot of endorphins secured.

Appearances on the BBC played a crucial part in the extraordinary UK success enjoyed by Focus in 1972-73. Their live performances on TV's The Old Grey Whistle Test and radio's Sounds Of The '70s were much discussed at the time, and laid the foundation for a trio of hit singles in Sylvia, Hocus Pocus and House Of The King, all included here. Seven tracks showcase their distinctive mix of flute, keyboards and guitar with occasional yodelling. Sound is excellent throughout and the release comes with full recording details and extensive sleeve notes.

About:
Ramirez returns with THA PLAYA$ MANUAL II, the long-awaited sequel to his cult classic that helped solidify his place as one of underground rap's most distinctive voices. Steeped in Southern-fried funk, Bay Area swagger, and Memphis-style menace, this new chapter finds Ramirez sharper, smoother, and more seasoned-delivering game like a streetwise sage with a gold grill grin.
Where the original Playa$ Manual was gritty and raw, THA PLAYA$ MANUAL II sounds like a player who's leveled up. The beats knock harder, the flows glide slicker, and the game is deeper. Ramirez weaves tales of betrayal, come-ups, late-night drives, and cold-hearted reality with the same charismatic cool that made him a standout in the $uicideboy$-adjacent G59 movement-but this time with a more refined, cinematic approach.
From trunk-rattling bangers to syrupy smooth cuts that soundtrack late-night escapades, THA PLAYA$ MANUAL II feels like a ride through Ramirez's world with tinted windows up and the bass on max. It's a record for the hustlers, the heartbreakers, the loners, and the legends in the making.
This is more than a sequel-it's a statement: the playa's still active, and the manual's been updated.

Since his early days at Chain Reaction, K. Soublis (Fluxion) has carved his own unique style, combining elements of dub, ambient, techno, score, textural, and even jazz elements, all glued together with his distinct production aesthetic.
Haze is a broad selection of pieces that was recorded between 2023-2024. The music is moving from more slow cyclic compositional pieces on Life Motif, Nexus, Desiderium, to ambient dub pieces, on Magenta and Touch, on to more euphoric and uplifting ones on Footsteps, Berlin and What Tommorow Brings, reflecting on artist's need to tell stories.
As a whole Haze showcases the artist's versatility on moving and combining different genders with his own distinct crafted sound, bringing a bold always fresh unique view, making the album an indulging and intriguing listening experience as a whole.
Fluxion has managed to constantly adding to his sound through the years always evolving and Haze is a testament of his restless nature and the artist's need to move towards more uncharted territories without alienating the listener.

Picking up where the last record ended, it's an introspective but celebratory and uplifting affair. One-man-band jams
turning into mini epics, like coming up for air or seeing the bright lights at the end of a long dark tunnel.

*GATEFOLD DOUBLE VINYL WITH SPOT UV FRONT COVER*
Following the skewed-unself-help-brilliance of 'Sus Dog' (which marked his first full foray into songs, abetted by Thom Yorke), and its companion piece 'Cave Dog', Chris Clark returns to the dancefloor's simple, but no less affecting pleasures, with 'Steep Stims'.
"I found it hard to pull away from listening to this record, hard to stop making it, I had to remove myself from the Stims and stop enjoying it at some point. The album feels like nature to me. I love it when electronic music feels more naturalistic than acoustic music, more potent, that's the devil's trick, the promise of electronic music." comments Chris.
"I used an old synth - the Virus on all of the tracks. I used it at Mess in Melbourne - run by my friend Robin Fox - I loved it so much I had to buy one when I got back to the UK, it took a while to find. They're a bit clunky to program but make some of my most favourite sounds."
'Steep Stims' marks a back-to-basics approach, invoking the early years of gung-ho creativity enforced by limitations in technology at the time. "Most of the tracks on this album capture the spirit of making music on old samplers, which don't have much memory time", explains Clark. "It reminds me of making 'Clarence Park', my first album, where I would have to finish tunes in the session, as they would be saved on floppy disks and I couldn't easily go between tracks. This new record is just a few synths and a few choice sounds; the writing is the important thing."
Made quickly, 'Steep Stims' reflects the immediate rave energy of his live show, but that's not to say it's basic floor fodder, as it's rife with personality, synth magic, and knack for melody. Although swift and impressionistically captured rather than laboured over, it's still formidably deft, with plenty of oddball weirdness lurking beneath the dancefloor.
Soft, orange, scorched, brutal, the opening track 'Gift and Wound' captures the classic dance music dread / awe / euphoria combo perfectly, before 'Infinite Roller' merges sparkly-minimalism with snarling bass and soft sines, which turn more dense and metallic as it progresses.
The melancholic smoke belch of 'No Pills U' gives strong classic vibrations, which is belied by its creation, made in just 20 minutes. "I love working quickly sometimes", comments Clark. "Inspiration hits, rough and ready. It's off the cuff but also screams 'don't gild the lily with nonsense, keep it simple keep it clean'". Segueing into its elder brother, the piece becomes bigger and beatier on 'Janus Modal', where it permutates for over 7 minutes of fluttering, beatific club majesty.
At '18EDO Bailiff' you inexplicably find yourself at a clearing, things have suddenly got much quieter. You enter a decrepit and eerie old house, and as you move through its unsettling interior, you arrive at 'Globecore Flats'. A real piano tuned to 18 notes per octave gives the pair of tracks a haunted, olde worlde feel, which promptly gets eaten by a huge tech step tearout monster, birthing a strange but exotic beast.
The white hot 'Blowtorch Thimble' is all hooktasm-rave-hyper-amen-energy, whilst acidic flute leaps around like Ian Anderson on pingers throughout the catchily simple jump-up lurch of 'Civilians'.
"'In Patient's Day Out' is like some sort of Morricone-does-kraut-rock-with-drum-machines, but that's probably just in my head" says Clark. "I made several versions of this then went with the early mix but cranked through some choice outboard because it just had something."
Drumless, yet still full of exhilarating-big-trance-drama, 'Who Booed The Goose' flashes by in stroboscopic fast forward, then '5 Millionth Cave Painting' gives a palate cleanser, letting "the virus with its delicious broken, luxurious reverb have a moment", before 'Negation Loop' swoops down in all its glory, with Clark's tweaked vocals leading deconstructed trance breakdowns, tape edits and brutal noisebursts.
An antidote to the bombast of its predecessor is 'Micro Lyf', which closes the set on a poignant note, of sorts. Muted staccato gives way to field recordings "that gradually put it in this outside space; alien in a meadow somewhere nameless. It feels like a sinkhole. The record kinda swallows itself up and then is gone", ends Chris.
