BAOBAB was once described as "one of the most interesting rock-jazz groups on the Stuttgart scene". Solo 500 delivers another irresistible 7" that takes the form of this two-sided celebration of boogie and jazz-funk classics. Side A revisits The Whatnauts' 1981 gem 'Help Is On The Way,' which was famously sampled by De La Soul, MC Lyte and Heavy D. This synth-laden and soulful edit captures the essence of early 80s boogie with killer grooves. Side B flips the script with 'Stepping', a refined edit of Donald Byrd's 1975 jazz-funk masterpiece 'Stepping Into Tomorrow', produced by the legendary Mizell brothers for Blue Note. With great respect for the OGs but added new school charm, this 45 bridges past and present in style.

MC Side (Side A) 'All That Mess': 'All That Mess' is a jazzy, uptempo nod to Pete Rock and CL Smooth's 1992 'Mecca and the Soulbrother' LP that despite being a new song, will feel delightfully familiar to anyone who loves golden age rap music. Co-produced by Slim G and Andy Cooper, the track grooves with head bobbing energy, tight cuts and clever lyricism.
DJ Side (Side B) 'Let's Take It To The Booth': co-produced by Moneyshot of The Allergies, 'Let's Take It To The Booth' is a funky yet epic ode to everyone who puts in work behind the decks. A bold new collaboration creates a powerful encounter between UK Mandé jazz and Afro-Colombian marimba - 15 musicians exploring shared African roots through rhythm and improvisation. Balimaya Project and Colombia's Discos Pacifico All Stars together present a cross-continental performance of West African jazz and Afro-Colombian tradition in a boundary-pushing exchange of rhythm, heritage, and sound. The two bands bring together a connection between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, exploring experimental Afro-diasporic soundscapes, blending Mandé jazz with Afro-Colombian folkloric music in a collaboration which fuses the deep rhythmic and cultural ties between African and Latin American traditions. Balimaya Project, known for their powerful fusion of Mandé rhythms and contemporary jazz, brings a strong foundation in West African musical heritage, incorporating instruments like the djembe and balafon to craft complex, emotive compositions rooted in community and storytelling. Joining them from Colombia's Pacific coast, the Discos Pacifico All Stars - featuring members of Bejuco, Semblanzas del Rio Guapi, and former members of Agrupación Changó - focus on marimba music and Afro-Colombian rhythms, channelling the energy of their ancestral sound into something fresh and globally resonant. The album 'Calima' centres on an international exchange, shaping a new musical narrative in real time. Calima is a natural phenomenon where Sahara Desert dust travels across the Atlantic, bringing nutrients that fertilise the Amazon and tropical rainforests in Latin America and the Caribbean. Like this dust, the African diaspora crossed oceans by force, but through cultural resistance kept their heritage alive - recognising each other, sharing traditions, rooting themselves, and creating new forms of expression that transform dispersal into fertile encounters of memory, beauty, and renewal.

This one has been in the works for some time and PDD, in conjunction with Armada Music & BEAT Music Fund, are delighted to announce the return to vinyl for KMS. And what better way to kick things off again with this powerful 4 tracker, gathering some of the most in demand and genre defying tracks from the E-Dancer vaults for the first time on one EP.

Label owner Kevin Saunderson aka The Elevator, is largely credited as one of Detroit Techno’s founding fathers goes by many names, with the E-Dancer signature reserved for his more underground Detroit explorations, which in turn have influenced and spawned many new genres.

Almost 4 decades on, Saunderson remains as relevant as a DJ and producer today, testament to the fact that regardless of the production moniker, no one does it better. johnny’s disk record is an independent jazz label run by the owner of jazz cafe kaiunbashi no johnny located in rikuzentakata city in iwate prefecture, japan.

the legendary label released a string of albums of high quality but down-to-earth music, spanning from modern jazz, avant-garde jazz to left-field pop. albums such as “farewell my johnny / left alone” and “aya’s samba” has reached cult status among fans as some of the best works to come out of the japanese jazz scene.

this debut album by drummer and actor mitsuaki katayama is a japanese jazz masterpiece, put out by johnny’s disk record—an independent jazz label run by the owner of jazz cafe kaiunbashi no johnny located in rikuzentakata city.

consisting of 5 original compositions, the no-filler album includes the tracks “unknown point,” a danceable jazz samba with tight and powerful drumming; the melancholic “arizona high way,” a tune that perfectly epitomizes what japanese jazz is about; “it’s over,” which features beautiful piano work by kichiro sugino—a promising pianist who tragically succumbed to a chronic illness and couldn’t fully realize his potential; “louis” and “first flight,” a jazzy dance cut with a funky bassline.

‘More Rice and Jugaar Records – Two Bangkok-affiliated labels – bring together an assemblage of their mutual friends for a heady, floor-focused VA with moods to soundtrack peak flow, after-hours rabbit holes, and just about everything in between.

Rudoh of Jugaar Records fame kicks us off with ‘Madoh’, a bendy groove that initially bares flex of early 2000s Minimal with its trimmed, rubbery percussion and obscured vocal snippets. As the track progresses, a hefty break and a catchy synth line bolster things before breakdowns unfold like little trippy slumbers rudely interrupted by bold, punchy drops.

Next up is Tokyo legend Gonno who follows up with ‘Rad’, a broad-shouldered banger propelled by a heaving kick and clap combo. A wrought synth is paired with odd shocks of acid and a sequence that flickers like a strobe. All the while a thick, gnarled bass line rumbles underneath, keeping vibes at boiling point throughout.

Finally, I was able to devote some time to actually getting some collaborations completed for a new release of the Meeting Of The Minds series, with some brand new names arriving to Future Retro London!

Nebula is one of my favourite artists making new jungle atm, his versatility in music on the darker & lighter sides of the spectrum, the richness of his atmospherics and melodies & the way his drum edits flow throughout his tracks, I consider him a big inspiration in what I make. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to work with him on "Without Fear".

I've been enjoying some of what Stekker's been doing in his music, representing the ruffer lo-fi side of production and he's been putting out some great stuff on his own label Ruff 'n' Tuff as well as on a release he did for Coco Bryce's label Myor. I reached out to him about a collaboration and he had started something, which I was really into and that led to "The Quest".

I owe a lot to DJ Trace, as he was one of the first big names in jungle/d&b to really show me support for what I was doing. He gave me my debut vinyl release when he asked me to remix an old classic of his called "Final Chapta", which he released in 2011 on his label DSCI4. I also had music released on a label he started a few years after that called 117 (which I also helped design artwork for), so we go way back. He's been making more music than ever before recently and I was lucky enough to be able to get a collaboration in with him and "Patterns Of Thought" is the end result of that.

I've known Ark X & Duburban for a number of years, I would see them at a lot of events up north, as well as at events in London that they'd travel down for. They also were good friends with Kid Lib and would drive down with him whenever he was visiting/DJing in London & I was becoming familiar with their music through him, through Ark X's labels Supercharger & Hypercharger (where some of Ark X's music was being released under his previous alias of Black Orchid) & through Duburban's collaborations with Jahganaut. Big up to both of them for collaborating with me on "Come A Dance"
