Nigerian-born, London-based singer, songwriter, musician and producer Steven Bamidele presents his keenly anticipated sophomore album, 'THE CRASH!' – a sonically rich exploration of purpose, doubt and personal reckoning. South-London, British-Bengali musician Tara Lily shares her debut album 'Speak In The Dark'. The LP is about "speaking your truth" and combines alternative R&B, jazz, electronica and traditional Indian sounds into a unique fusion. The record, produced by Dom Valentino, features American jazz trumpeter Theo Croker, UK rapper Surya Sen, and Archy Marshall (aka King Krule) on guitar.
Growing up in Peckham as part of a British Bengali family has given Tara Lily a unique perspective on music and global culture. She has spent her life absorbing a multitude of sounds and genres from her surroundings, ranging from electronica to jazz and RnB to traditional Bengali folk music. From training at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music (where she studied jazz piano and voice) to learning Indian classical music and being the first act signed to Motown Records UK. Tara is a musical anomaly.

Domenique Dumont’s fourth album, Deux Paradis, arrives like the three that came before it – with an air of mystery and wonder. This is dance music for inner worlds – rituals, revelations and reveries.
Deux Paradis is a ten-track song cycle that leads the listener through the rhythm of a day, the bloom and fade of a relationship, or even the stages of a life.

It begins with a song about waking up – the candy-striped dub of “Enchantia” – and traces the sun’s arc with the pixelated reggae of “La Vie Va” and the sensuous rush of “Amants Ennemis”. As night falls, the songs take on a twilight quality in the
shimmering pop of “The Order of Invisible Things” and the seductive pulse of “Visages Visages” (a subtle nod to the Desireless classic). There’s also the baroque swoon of “Deux Paradis” and the soft exotica of “Visiteur de la Nuit”. Bolder and richer than before, it’s vintage Domenique Dumont – timeless and romantic, yet laced with an unplaceable sense of longing, like in an Éric Rohmer film. After the instrumental film score People On Sunday (Leaf, 2020) – composed solo by Arturs Liepins – singer Anete Stuce returns to Domenique Dumont, bringing her inimitable joie de vivre. Deux Paradis completes a trilogy of releases alongside Comme Ça (2015) and Miniatures De Auto Rhythm (2018) on the Antinote label.

Deux Paradis was composed, arranged and between 2022 and the end of 2024 in studios in Riga and Paris, and on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa.

Uncompromising, innovative sound designer/producer/live performer Enrico Sangiuliano keeps counting down from ‘NINETOZERO’ on his eponymous transient imprint, with its built-in autodestruct after release #0. New EP ‘Discipline', out July 11th, brings us to ‘#2’ as the Italian techno maestro drops the three-tracker (plus a bonus edit).Known for his melodic/driving techno brilliance, Sangiuliano manages to be both an artistic pioneer and a frequent chart-stormer. As well as his startlingly compelling ‘The Techno Code’, Discipline EP includes tracks from Secret Cinema & About Sofiya (‘You Know What I Was Thinking’) and Zimmz (We Build And Reset’) who join Enrico Sangiuliano alongside Charlotte de Witte, Antonio d’Africa, Mattia Saviolo, GMS, Alex Lentini, STOMP BOXX for a release on NINETOZERO. ‘The Techno Code’ (Enrico Sangiuliano ) is both a manifesto and a commentary on the track, on techno itself, with a portentous voiceover announcing ‘These are my rules – the Techno Code’ before describing what’s happening to your ears, feet and brain. There’s an echo of 50s US atom bomb warning films, of Faithless’ ‘This is my church…’, of Hawkwind’s ‘Sonic Attack’. The Voice takes us through the ‘march forward’ of kick drum & hi-hats, the subtly ‘captivating main theme’ with its melodic synths, a squirt of acid, before ‘all elements converge in a powerful surge’, and they do, and it is. There’s a beautiful irony as the refrain of ‘Rules’ and ‘Discipline’ will be accompanied by undisciplined ecstatic ravers on dancefloors worldwide.

For many bands, having all their gear stolen would be catastrophic. For Third Ear Band, this unfortunate 1968 incident opened a portal to beneficial change. Leader/percussionist Glen Sweeney viewed the heist as a sign to alter Third Ear Band's approach, and they switched to exclusively using acoustic instruments. With electrified psychedelia in full bloom, Sweeney, Paul Minns (oboe, recorder, whistles, flutes) and Richard Coff (violin, viola) struck out on an individualistic path, blending Indian raga with chamber music – without plugging in.

Third Ear Band's 1969 debut album, Alchemy, established them as a solemn, powerful force in the global underground. On Alchemy, Sweeney laid down a steady pulse on hand drums, while Minns and Coff wove in melismatic patterns on oboe, recorder, violin and viola. This approach carried over to Third Ear Band's self-titled sophomore album, often called Elements due to its track titles being named after the four basic components of medieval European alchemists' doctrines.

On this 1970 LP, Third Ear Band sounded at once ancient and contemporary, yet they turned on the hippies with their epic, trance-inducing jams that suggested secret knowledge of infinity. Although Third Ear Band flourished during the West's countercultural zenith, they were peculiarly estranged from it on a sonic level. Even outré contemporaries such as Comus and Jan Dukes De Grey sounded like pop groups compared to TEB. Having no traditional front person or electric instruments, Third Ear Band forged a singular path that flowered most vividly on Elements.

The long songs here stream forth from their skilled hands, evoking a communal transcendence in sound – a hypnotic swirl that doesn't swing, but rather wafts and undulates with cloistered beauty. TEB's music exists in an eternal now, a perpetual wow. It is an ouroboros of organic textures, seemingly magicked into the air spontaneously, yet possessing a rigor that suggests long hours in the lab. Without electricity, it somehow burrowed deeper into your consciousness.

Hyperglyph is the first new album in 11 years from composer/trumpeter/synthesist Rob Mazurek and composer/percussionist Chad Taylor’s long-running Chicago Underground Duo project. Mazurek and Taylor have played music together in a multitude of formations over nearly three decades, including their ongoing partnership in Mazurek’s large-format-skyward-expressionism vehicle Exploding Star Orchestra, in the expanded Chicago Underground Trio, Quartet and Orchestra (all with guitarist Jeff Parker), as well as a plethora of other assemblages. The early albums by the Duo have proven to be embryonic blueprints for the avant-jazz / electronic / indie rock hybridizing of the time, making them majorly important moments in the articulation of the “jazz” dimensionality of the then-burgeoning "post rock" sound. That sound, of course, was being transmitted far and wide due to the success of these groups as well as the Mazurek/Parker project Isotope 217, and the Chicago Underground’s frequently-intersecting collaborators in Tortoise. Just as most of the still-working projects born of that era have evolved, reconfigured, and grown, the Chicago Underground Duo has undergone a number of musical moltings, with the project always in the background of disparate individual aural investigations. The concurrent personal evolutions of Mazurek and Taylor as the Duo project drops off and picks back up makes it a true reflection of their own lives and friendship. When the long running music brand and DJ collective Soul Damn Funky released their recent - and third to date - compilation album of New York clubland classics earlier this year, it was a digital only affair. But the numerous requests for a vinyl pressing have prompted Brighton's Russell Ruckman and London legend Marcia Carr to select four tunes from the album for a sampler EP. The luxuriously jazzy version of Solution's 'Feels So Right' remixed by Rani G And Raul Riena, leads the charge, with Hot Motion's cool and percussive 'Motion 96' adding some relaxed, sumptuously produced class. Booker T offers up a dub of 'Living For The Moment' by Mercedes, using the piano breakdown as a cue to strip things right down and then build them up again block by block in inimitable style. Finally, the Jazzy Groove dub of Strive For Jive's 'Never Gonna Give Up' brings things to a close with a looped up, dreamy vocal refrain, sturdy house beats and even a subtle bleep influence. Soul Damn Funky? So damn funky, for sure.
