“Reconnect”, a collaborative project between Italy’s Francesco Mami and France’s Julien Chaptal, is a musical exploration that originated during a unique period of global confinement, where creativity flourished in unexpected ways. The genesis of "Reconnect" traces back to a time when the world was asked to pause and stay indoors. During the first 50 days of this period, Julien Chaptal found joy and inspiration in reconnecting with his instruments and the myriad of musical ideas that constantly filled his mind. Embracing the freedom to create without boundaries, he produced a track a day, amassing around 50 tracks, many of which remained unfinished.A year later, a serendipitous meeting in Geneva with Francesco Mami over sake, good food, and music sparked the idea of collaboration. Julien sent some of his initial tracks to Francesco, who reworked them, adding his unique touch and bringing them to life. Their online exchange and collaborative efforts resulted in the tracks that now form the EP. Francesco, a true studio craftsman, expanded on Julien's original vision, creating a synergy that neither could have achieved alone. The record encapsulates a theme of "Confined Freedom," a reflection of the period of its creation and draws from three decades of electronic music influences, a melting pot of inspiration that shaped its sound. The warmth of the gear used in the studio sessions provided a comforting contrast to the external circumstances. Various drum machines and synthesizers were employed, contributing to the unique sound of the EP, though no specific piece of equipment was highlighted as central to its creation. Featuring an astonishing guest appearance by house vocal sensation Joi Cardwell, Ellum delivers a late summer anthem with 'Love Somebody Else'. For the A-side Eric Estornel aka Maceo Plex revives an unreleased Jon DaSilva Remix of Colourblind's cover of 1979 Jones Girls classic 'You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else'. Having loved the remix, lost in the heady days of the early 90s, Eric orchestrated a studio session with legendary hacienda DJ Jon DaSilva to make a new reinterpreted version of the track replaying everything and creating a new melodies and sonsstructure, also managing to track down classic house singer Joi Cardwell to lay down fresh vocals and creating a real floor burner as a result. Drawing a line under his Pulse series, Pev brings a fifth and final dose of positivity to the dance with a distinctly techno-oriented focus and space for the odd curveball.

Strident opener 'Pulse XVII" bookends a lean, subtly stepped mid-section workout with pearlescent synth strings and chord stabs patched in for maximum Motor City uplift. 'Pulse XVIII' operates within a taut house framework, stirring up a forthright jack track with the sparsest of ingredients drawn from the palette of bassweight 4/4 that has run throughout the Pulse series. The tempo noticeably nudges up on 'Pulse XIX' - a nagging dub techno variation where the genre's usual blown-out dreaminess is replaced with snappy urgency. That leaves it to 'Pulse XX' to close the series out with a sharp left turn towards light-footed leftfield steppers gear with alien hooks - an approach that harks back to earlier Pev output, but given a fresh lick with the bright-eyed production that has informed his latest phase of studio exploration.

The final repress from Sound Signature HQ is an essential slab of late 90s Motor City deepness from Theo, presented once again for contemporary reassessment and sounding every bit as jaw dropping 14 years on. Dropping back in 1999, title cut "Overyohead" came to be regarded as a quintessential Theo Parrish track; strings incandescent with soul and lovingly off centre Rhodes riding those heavy drum arrangements towards a sweet piano infused crescendo.
