Als Sacred Bones 2019 ihr Mort-Garson-Reissue-Projekt mit der Wiederveröffentlichung von Plantasia startete, begann die Garson-Renaissance. Seitdem kann man Mort Garson und seine Moogs in Fernsehsendungen, Dokumentationen, Podcasts, Hip-Hop-Tracks und überall sonst hören, der Mann ist wieder ein kulturelles Phänomen. Wie eine Staude, die mit jedem neuen Frühling wiederkehrt, haben die Archive von Mort Garson eine weitere beeindruckende Blüte hervorgebracht. Journey to the Moon and Beyond zeigt noch mehr neue Facetten des Sounds dieses Mannes. Es enthält den Soundtrack zum Blaxploitation-Film Black Eye von 1974, einige bisher unveröffentlichte und neu ausgegrabene Werbemusik. Ebenso königlich ist "Zoos of the World", wo Garson die wilden, sich putzenden und schlummernden Tiere aus einem gleichnamigen National Geographic-Special von 1970 vertont. Man fragt sich, aus welchem Projekt ein so schillernder Titel wie "Western Dragon" stammen könnte, aber diese drei Ausschnitte wurden auf Bändern im Archiv gefunden, ohne weitere Informationen. Die Krönung des Sets ist zweifellos Garsons Soundtrack zur Live-Übertragung der Mondlandung von Apollo 11 im Jahr 1969, der erstmals in den CBS-Nachrichten zu hören war. Ein kleiner Schritt für den Menschen, ein großer Sprung für Moog. Doch jahrzehntelang galt dieser Soundtrack als verschollen, und die einzige Spur von ihm war ein alter YouTube-Clip. Glücklicherweise stieß der fleißige Audioarchivar Andy Zax bei der Durchsicht des umfangreichen Rod McKuen-Archivs auf das Mastertape. Jetzt können wir es in seiner ganzen Pracht hören. In sechs Minuten zaubert Garson ausgedehnte Fantasien, surrende Mooncraft-Sounds, Schwerelosigkeit und glitzernde Etüden. Es zeigt die vielen Stimmungen von Mort: süß, forschend, skurril, ein bisschen kitschig, und alles zu einem glorreichen Ganzen verwoben. Vielleicht empfand man es damals als krass und opportunistisch, wenn Garson seine Keyboards auf Themen wie astrologische Zeichen, Okkultismus, Hippiedasein, Zimmerpflanzen oder die Mondlandung anwandte. Aber mehr als die meisten anderen Pioniere der elektronischen Musik sah Garson die Integration solcher Elektronik in unser tägliches Leben voraus, wie sie es uns ermöglichen würde, uns mit der Welt zu beschäftigen - mit kleinen alltäglichen Dingen, populären Trends und großen historischen Ereignissen - mit unseren Tweets, Posts, Reaktionsvideos und dergleichen.

Man fragt sich, aus welchem Projekt ein so schillernder Titel wie "Western Dragon" stammen könnte, aber diese drei Ausschnitte wurden auf Bändern im Archiv gefunden, ohne weitere Informationen. Die Krönung des Sets ist zweifellos Garsons Soundtrack zur Live-Übertragung der Mondlandung von Apollo 11 im Jahr 1969, der erstmals in den CBS-Nachrichten zu hören war. Ein kleiner Schritt für den Menschen, ein großer Sprung für Moog. Doch jahrzehntelang galt dieser Soundtrack als verschollen, und die einzige Spur von ihm war ein alter YouTube-Clip. Glücklicherweise stieß der fleißige Audioarchivar Andy Zax bei der Durchsicht des umfangreichen Rod McKuen-Archivs auf das Mastertape. Jetzt können wir es in seiner ganzen Pracht hören. In sechs Minuten zaubert Garson ausgedehnte Fantasien, surrende Mooncraft-Sounds, Schwerelosigkeit und glitzernde Etüden. Es zeigt die vielen Stimmungen von Mort: süß, forschend, skurril, ein bisschen kitschig, und alles zu einem glorreichen Ganzen verwoben. Vielleicht empfand man es damals als krass und opportunistisch, wenn Garson seine Keyboards auf Themen wie astrologische Zeichen, Okkultismus, Hippiedasein, Zimmerpflanzen oder die Mondlandung anwandte. Aber mehr als die meisten anderen Pioniere der elektronischen Musik sah Garson die Integration solcher Elektronik in unser tägliches Leben voraus, wie sie es uns ermöglichen würde, uns mit der Welt zu beschäftigen - mit kleinen alltäglichen Dingen, populären Trends und großen historischen Ereignissen - mit unseren Tweets, Posts, Reaktionsvideos und dergleichen.
