Japanese sound engineer Yas Inoue, based in New York began his career in the world renowned Maw Studios in the late 90s and has engineered for producers such as Masters At Work, Patrick Adams, Leroy Burgess, and Randy Muller contributing to the creation of various New York house and disco hits Takaya Nagase, a New York based Japanese Dj started as an A&R for Japanese record label Soundmen On Wax. He learned and studied under the great David Mancuso of the Loft Party NYC and later held his own Joy parties along with other Loft members. Having had regular gigs at Club Shelter from 2006 to 2007 and at Club Output from 2017 until the closing in 2019, he built his dj chops and now currently djs at New York City's top venues such as Le Bain, Good Room and Nowadays along with monthly shows on the famed Lot Radio in Brooklyn. Grammy award winner & multi grammy nominated Luisito Quintero grew up with the Latin American and African tradition of percussion. His father is just as much a percussionist as his uncle Carlos Nene Quintero and his cousin Roberto Quintero . He became a member of the Orquesta Simfonica de Venezuela , but soon appeared with ensembles such as Grupo Guaco and El Trabuco
Venezolano and toured with Oscar D'León .

He then moved to New York, where he initially worked with Latin jazz musicians such as Willie Colón , Eddie Palmieri , Tito Puente and Celia Cruz . Louie Vega goes back to his freestyle music roots and collaborates with one of the top artists in the game George LaMond. Born in Georgetown, Washington D.C. LaMond has released over seven albums and has had many top club and radio hits throughout his career. He’s had a number one salsa smash with “Que Te Vas” which spawned an RIAA-certified gold album. It was in no time that Vega reached out to LaMond with an idea of going back to his freestyle roots and recording 5 artists from that genre of music. “George LaMond first up”, Vega says, “we wanted to redo a jam that was also played in the freestyle club world and is a vintage classic, the Spanish band Barrabas hit “Woman” was the perfect one to remake. Long Island dj/producer Frankie C was also working on a “Woman” remake and brought it to me for Vega Records. I thought George LaMond had the perfect voice for it, and when it came time for the session he knew exactly how to execute the song, I then brought in my Elements Of Life band on the rhythm section we were able to create a four floor percussive groove and a salsa version as well. The signature Barrabas electric guitar riffs courtesy of Mike Ciro, Gene Perez on bass, Axel Tosca on keyboards, and Luisito Quintero on percussion was a perfect fit!”. The release offers sizzling remixes by house music pioneer David Morales, taking the track straight to peak time on the dance floor with a main and dub version. Radio Slave teams up with Kameelah Waheed for ‘All Rize’ It’s Matt Edwards’ first single on his Rekids label this year, and comes with an additional Revolution Mix. Radio Slave returns to his seminal Rekids imprint with ‘All Rize’, his first single for the label in 2025, landing in May and featuring a vocal from Kameelah Waheed. The track, which continues Matt Edwards’ tendency to favour longer runtimes, builds the pressure through its excellently looping and evolving elements. Waheed, a returning featured artist on Rekids with credits on tracks for Terry Farley and Wade Teo, as well as Hilit Kolet, provides an anchor for the journey, leading the dancefloor through a series of instructions with her inimitable voice. Edwards’ Revolution Mix of ‘All Rise’ then takes a more soulful approach with jazz-inflected guitar riffs and impassioned bass, completing another must-have package from the unstoppable Radio Slave. These are the words of legendary Nigerian musician and activist Fela Kuti, words that remain as true as ever over two decades since his untimely death. A pioneer of the Nigerian revolution, his fight against police oppression remains an ongoing conversation in the country. Now, Defected pays tribute to the vital work of Fela with a special 12” release, as Armonica and MoBlack revisit Fela Kuti’s ‘International Thief Thief (I T. T.)’ as the fight against systemic corruption continues to be a pressing issue in Nigeria. The A-Side features Armonica & MoBlack’s flawlessly executed and ever respectful remix of the record where Fela called out and directly attacked former Nigerian president General Obasanjo and Moshood Abjola, the CEO of Nigeria’s biggest national telecommunications conglomerate I.T.T and Decca Records. Their homage to Fela brings a powerful and culturally relevant piece of music to the forefront of dance culture in 2020.

On the reverse side is ‘Chagu’, where a powerful and evocative spoken word narration is provided by South Sudanese-Canadian artist, actor, former child soldier and political activist Emmanuel Jal. A collaboration between Emmanuel, MoBlack and Henrik Schwarz, both producers provide their own version of ‘Chagu’, with MoBlack opting for a classic afro-house beat and hypnotic percussion, while Henrik’s signature crisp, harmonious composition makes for a guaranteed dancefloor weapon. Both visionary producers, Henrik and MoBlack’s versions are equally impactful, complementing the immediacy of Emmanuel’s lyrics.

With South Londons’ indomitable Medlar having just released his album Islands and winning serious support so far, it’s time to drop a killer remix package on you! UK acid-mavericks Paranoid London get dark n twisted on Luv Interlude turning in a serious club work-out which will hook you in with it’s sonic-trickery and muscular house groove. Crazy P’s James Baron aka Ron Basejam sculpts Dot The T’s into a funked up electro jam with glitchy bit-crushed fills and lush, David Axelrod-esque outro chords laying the bedrock for Deevoenay’s brilliant vocals. A proper fusion of flavours on this one make for a fresh and forward-looking track for both club and home listening. Flipping over we have Josh Ludlow of Make A Dance stepping up and delivering a tripped out, slo-mo Balearic remix of Atlantean ft. Alfa Sackey which goes heavy on the percussion and dubby flourishes. Finally, Medlar reworks his own Midnight Cicadas, pumping up the drums and adding some lovely old-school Cowboy/ Tomato-era progressive house synths. Rebekah Reid’s violin gets washed with reverb making for a hazy, summery track with a retro sound which Medlar carries off with aplomb!

Following his appearance on _NRV001, Dragomir returns with his solo debut for the label—a deep and driving four-tracker, backed by two standout remixes from Lizz. ‘Elisabeth’ sets the tone with a tense, stripped groove that slowly uncoils across the A1, while ‘Freaks’ rides a more playful, shifty rhythm laced with micro stabs and broken vocal hints.
