David Agrella - Reflextion Nocturna
Brixton-based David Agrella returns after the success of his Baby Ford-remixed 'Modulo 02', with two tracks and a nifty remix of each to boot. 'I Felt It Coming' is a heady peak time track, with Underground Resistance-style drum machine handclaps and an addictive synth hook and all the suspense and drama of a Stephen King horror tale. Domenico Rosa's remix turns that frown upside down, converting it into a perky, cheeky and altogether lighter workout that nevertheless will keep feet on the dancefloor. 'Reflexion Nocturna' (Priori remix) kicks off the B-side with fizzling dub techno stealth, subtly embellished with a smidgeon of 'Funky Drummer' breakbeat, while Agrella's original closes proceedings with head down, echo-set Leftfield-style prog house skank. Not for nothing is this chap known as one of the techno scene's fastest rising new names.

David Agrella - Modulo (NDR Remix)
London-based Italian David Agrella is the man behind the Agrellomatica Records label and now for its fifth release, he has tapped up some undeniably quality names to remix the title tune from his debut Modulo EP back in 2007. Baby Ford kicks off with a deliciously deep and dubbed-out minimal house roller that is detailed with wispy chords and eerie vocalisations. Agrella himself then flips it into a rubbery 909 workout with pops and bubbles next to the leggy drums. GNMR goes for a gritty, heads down and back room techno roller and to close, NDR brings a retro techno sound with molten acid lines. All in all a very useful outing.

David Agrella - Flowing (Mr Barcode Remix)
David Agrella returns to his Agrellomatica Records with the spacey house sounds of 'Flowing', featuring remixes from Ben Hauke & Mr Barcode.
Hot on the heels of his recent 'Freedom Unfolding' release, praised by Raresh, Sasha, Laurent Garnier, Vladimir Ivkovic and Dorian Paic, Italian-born tastemaker David Agrella is back on his Agrellomatica imprint with more intergalactic fire. This time, the London-based selector serves up four groove-laden cuts across 'Flowing', including remixes from Woop
Records' Ben Hauke and Into The Wizards' Sleeve Mr Barcode.
Title track 'Flowing' is a cosmic voyage peppered with glossy pads, eerie synths and sharp percussion, before Agrella's own 'Sabotage Mix' throws in deep, driving tones, subtle robotic vocals, and interstellar keys. On the flip, Ben Hauke delivers a dubbed-out reshape, harnessing fluttering echoes, emotive harmonies and deep basslines. To close, Mr
Barcode provides a punchy electro remix, as warped samples and driving low-ends get down in this slice of dancefloor mania.

David Agrella - Freedom Unfolding (Beroshima Remix)
Fresh from the label's second release 'Robot Romance', supported by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Fred P, Jane Fitz, Jennifer Cardini, Rossko and more. David Agrella returns via his spaced-out house EP 'Freedom Unfolding'. Remixes are delivered by London favourite N-Gynn (Pleasure Club) known for drawing on left-field, ravey sounds and esteemed German live techno act and Muller Records/Acid Orange boss Beroshima.
Elastic basslines and tumbling percussion unfasten the A-Side with 'Walking Loud' as sinister synths convulse around the beat before N-Gynn provides a frisky reshape with sharp snares, golden keys and subtle, loopy vocal samples on a chuggier tip. The eclectic experience continues on the B-Side with title track 'Freedom Unfolding' as swinging basslines carry dream-like pads and fluttering samples, while Beroshima's acid-infused, broken beat rework provides an anthemic finale to the release.

David Agrella - Fallin' (Transition Mix)
David Agrella returns on his newly-minted Agrellomatica Records with three fresh interpretations of Robot Romance. Agrella is a DJ, producer and recording artist with a growing reputation as a versatile selector. Showcasing his musical inspirations across genres via his Agrellomatica slot on London radio station Bloop, the first release on his recently launched eponymous imprint gained support from artists including Moxie, Korea Town Acid and Jane Fitz, alongside high praise from the likes of Ransom Note, Vinyl Factory and Bolting Bits. Electric Nostalgia is an utterly addictive track that draws you in right from the start, as swirling synths and subby pads float above crisp breaks. Robot Romance slowly intensifies with fluttering chords that feel weightless, as the even kick drums meet an elastic bassline - providing a propulsive gem. Agrella's Transition Mix of Fallin', which closes the E.P comes with pummeling drums and muscular acidic melodies.

David Agrella - The Puppets Are Back
David Agrella launches his Agrellomatica Records imprint with four original cuts entitled the Transition EP. The title track 'Transition' gets the ball rolling with a fluid drum sequence fused with rubbery synths and absorbing pads, before the 'Floor Mix' adds cosmic energy and dynamic FX to the exquisite original.
On the flip, 'Third Floor' features a combination of organic rhythms, shimmering low frequencies, and wavering acid stabs that spiral around each other until the dreamy, electro-tinged number 'The Puppets Are Back' rounds things off with a balance of celestial melodies and deep grooves.

fate 258 - Heaven or Hell
Following up the fantastic summer re-release of Upsetting Keys “Empathy” EP, Path Records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. Path 008 marks the return of artist Fate 258, whose 1999 “Why 2k” Path 001 EP has been a hotly sought after item on Discogs. The three-track EP contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “The Path”. The a-side version “Path to Hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “Path to Heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm Juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep Detroit flavored techno style. On the final track “Heaven or Hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and Bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. These mixes of “The Path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of Path 001. Fate 258 is a project from Brooklyn producer Reade Truth; known for his work over the last decades on labels such as Planet E, Sonic Groove, N-Syde, Wurst and Strictly Rhythm to name a few.

Emerging deep from within the depths of the Brooklyn underground. Upsetting Keys seeks to inform, to educate and inundate. This time they are armed with emotional, unknown electronic structures that originated back in the late 90s. The audio sculptures presented on this release specifically pass somewhere in a shape between total art form and other, much more subliminal and subdued opaque constructs. reade truth, iconic producer of planet e and sonic groove fame, rewinds all the way back to his first imprint, reintroducing to the public to the elusive and oft hyped Path Records. Upsetting Keys, a name whispered privately by elite DJ's around the world, is a modern example of the electronic, underground real deal. Almost 15 years ago, Jake Reif (L.I.E.S, Savage Hymn) started his production career working alongside Reade Truth @ his infamous Zone of FX studio; each of the expressing in a unique, uncompromising style a frustration and dissatisfaction with music scene, politics, life and everything in general. Regularly intense, 24 hour studio sessions resulted in the inimitable sound-scapes that have come to be known as "Upsetting Keys". Back in 2001, their debut EP "Empathy" was a silent masterpiece, inhibited only by sound quality and availability. Finally, these tracks get the treatment they initially deserved, with proper audio mastering carefully applied. Upsetting Keys, initially trapped in an era where dull throw-away concepts dominated early techno culture, can now freely present their unusual techniques which involved impossible sampling, maniacal rhythms and infectious melodic content, all of which lay waste to those past aesthetics. After a long hiatus, both Path Records and flagship artist, Upsetting Keys can be appreciated for what it was, and still is... ground-breaking innovative punk spiritualism, surprisingly not unsimiliar from their peers: Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Cabaret Voltaire, Derrick May and so on.

For this EP, we worked exclusively with a singer and produced several tracks, composing all the music around her voice. Working with the same singer encouraged us to explore different musical genres ranging from breakbeat, house, minimal and even ambient.
Happie’s voice became our guiding thread during several studio sessions, and this EP is the result of an immersion into her world, which we revisited in our own way. The fact that she comes from a more ‘folk’ background (guitar and vocals) was very interesting because it allowed us to contrast the softness of her compositions with our very dynamic music. It’s important to note the great freedom we had, as most singers don’t like their voices to be modified or cut up, but Happie gave us carte blanche for the composition.
The label’s name comes from a Japanese culinary expression, ‘I’ll leave the choice to you’, which, in the context of sushi restaurants, refers to chefs who select and prepare dishes for customers on their behalf, rather than letting them choose.
Antraum is based above all on the friendship between Anton and Traumer, which was forged, of course, around music.

Last year, when DJ Sneak visited our studio during ADE, we spoke for a long time about his newly found joy in house music, producing music in the current landscape, and letting go of all the things that made him uneasy with the scene for a long time. At one point, he grabbed a bunch of his hard drives, fired up our Dave Smith & Pioneer Toraiz sampler (the one we used for our live shows and the workstation he swears by for producing and arranging all his music), and showed us what must be one of the most impressive collections of demos we’ve ever seen. He talked us through his ideas for a new record on Heist with the enthusiasm of a producer who had just bought his first MPC60 back in the 80s. His ‘Back to love’ EP was still due to release and we already knew the follow-up would be equally amazing.
Fast forward about a year and after amazing feedback on his Heist debut from platforms like XLR8R, DJ Mag, Faith fanzine and plenty of radio coverage, along with DJ support from the likes of Joy Anonymous, Louie Vega, Jamie Jones, Honey Dijon, TSHA, Dj Seinfeld, Jennifer Cardini, Carista, he drops a new record on Heist recordings; The Synesthesia EP is another showcase of the raw talent of DJ Sneak, skillfully working his gear and churning out massive tunes full of classic Chicago house references, 90’s euphoria, and chunky synths.
The EP kicks off with ‘I can tell what you want’, a deep and bubbly groover where DJ Sneak takes some naughty chopped up R’n’B vocals and adds a pinch of the ghetto sound that he adopted in his formative years in Chicago. Sneak manages to take that influence and deliver something altogether contemporary with this track, ticking all the right boxes of catchy vocals, moody chords, a nasty bassline, and clever sampling.
If the first track embodies his Chicago spirit, then ‘A taste of the 90s’ embodies DJ Sneak’s New York spirit. With funky guitar and key licks, loopy horns, shuffling percussion and plenty of changeovers in the arrangement, he masterfully shows us the joy of classic house music. There’s always another element that gets added or taken away to build anticipation or release the energy with its chunky low end. It’s a true party starter with the energy of a young DJ Sneak spinning his first records way back when.
On the flip, we’ve got ‘Dirty jazz’. This delicious piece of Deep House is built around off-kilter drums with a syncopated bass line and quirky sample cuts. It’s got enough beef to keep the energy going, and the right amount of weirdness to grab your attention whenever this is played.
The closing track ‘You know what I mean’ adds another layer of weird-sounding vocals that will stick with you until long after the song is over. This track – and the whole EP for that matter – oozes the playful energy of a producer who’s completely comfortable with his musicality. It’s fun and playful, delivered with the class that only a hero of the underground like Sneak can do.
On the Synesthesia EP, DJ Sneak takes you deep on a trip through his musical roots and keeps you on the edge of your seat with 4 tracks bursting with personality.

William Kiss - The Beat
2
William Kiss - Midnight Club
William Kiss lands on Rekids with the ‘The Beat’ EP this November, hot on the heels of a remix for Mathias Kaden’s ‘Circulate’ EP on the label in September. The A-side starts with title track ‘The Beat’, bodied toms footing the rhythm while high-pitched percussion keeps an irresistible groove above. With an expertly sampled, playful vocal, Kiss’ ‘The Beat’ is another unmistakable club hit that will effortlessly find its way into the peak time. The B-side hosts ‘Midnight Club’, which features more organic drums mixed with a classic House vocal and zippy strobe-light-inducing synths, closing out William Kiss’ debut on Radio Slave’s flagship label in his signature drummy style. Having won support from Laurent Garnier, HAAi, Call Super, Robert Hood, and more, William Kiss has been going from strength to strength. He previously appeared on Radio Slave’s labels via his ‘Clap For Me’ EP on Rekids sibling label RSPX, with further releases on labels like GUDU, Bush Records and Three Six Zero alongside the launch of his collaborative project, Not Without Friends, with Luke Alessi and Jordan Brando on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Rose Avenu

Llopis - Back In The Days
AGT Records are back for number 008 and the smoke machine is on full blast.
Christian Llopis put out a handful of releases in the early 2000’s, each capturing the progressive machine-groove of the time, but with his own signature twist and turn that made his sound stand apart from his contemporaries. The Lobster Tan EP, first released in 2005 on Play. Out. Right. Now. Recordings, shows off his unique style perfectly.
Each track has its own distinct personality while maintaining a relentless momentum that throws each kick drum into the next. The title track ‘Lobster Tan’ has an almost elastic groove in the low end, balanced deftly with swirling samples and melody lines. ‘Simulation’ is a more heady offering, perfect for those late night/early morning moments where the heads are down and the lights are low. The mood is sinister, and its growling bassline and vocal samples barrel the tune forwards. Pick of the bunch is ‘Back in the Day’, a tribal roller that combines organic melody lines and pads with an ever-evolving bassline that will refresh any discerning dance floor back into life.
Llopis is an expert at keeping things subtle while moving the gears, and this release is a prime example of prog done right. We are happy to have this one back on the shelves, all in good time.
