DJ Ghost and Robert Armani resurrect their hugely popular turn-of-the-millennium collaboration with the superb ‘Hit Hard Baby (WTF)’. A formidable duo when it comes to churning out mind bending techno and hard-edged grooves, these guys first got together in 2001 delivering the bouncy vibes of ‘Hard One’ followed by ‘Airport’ and ‘Funk That’, all of which got included on a raft of compilations and enjoyed by many around the world. Individually they are accomplished in their own right. Ghost is an iconic figure in Belgium and a stalwart within the Bonzai family. Robert Armani needs no introduction, ‘Circus Bells’, ‘Ambulance’, ‘Hit Hard’ anyone? Since the mid-eighties he’s been right up there with DJ greats, and in 1992 he started releasing his own brand of house, acid house and techno. Legend is an understatement when it comes to both these guys and we’re delighted to see them back at it in the studio once again.
The release opens with ‘Hit Hard Baby (WTF)’, introing with dark kick drums and raspy hi hats. Classic techno percussions weave intricate patterns as tension mounts, taking us to the break where hypnotic notes build alongside a snare roll to the drop and back to full-on dark mode for the duration. ‘The Underground’ is up next, combining sick techno grooves with massive rave stabs and murky acid lines. Powered by a solid drum arrangement that packs a punch, this one is destined for peak time greatness. The first of two versions of ‘H.O.H’ begins with the Original Mix. Keeping with darker tones of the release, this one goes straight for the jugular as chunky kicks and pulsating, mesmeric basses combine along with clangy percussions and a classic vocal hook that will destroy the dancefloor. Another legend joins us to round out the release with Jam El Mar stepping up for remix duties on ‘H.O.H’. Hailed as a pioneer of trance alongside the late great Mark Spoon, Jam El Mar remains a much-revered name on the scene and we know amazing things happen when he’s let loose in the studio. Ramping up the energy on this one Jame El Mar whips up a frenzy to get the crowd moving. Heavy hitting kicks with layers of rhythmic percussions get the toes tapping while gnarly techno basses and electrifying synths combine alongside that instantly recognisable vocal. A monster tune that is not to be missed.

None of these guys need any introduction; their list of exploits would make War and Peace look like an essay. Jens Lissat aka ‘The Godfather Of Techno’ had a new vision for this retro gem and so, after casually chatting with Fly (Bonzai’s head honcho) the deal was done. He is joined by fellow veterans Christian Pieters and Dany Van Der Rieten aka Bonzai All Stars, who have over 6 decades of experience in the music scene between them. So we’ll let the music do the talking here.
The Original Mix opens the release and right from the off we’re locked into a surging, dancey groove thanks to chunky beats and an infectious rolling bassline. The original melody fades through before that distinctively enchanting vocal shines. A proper, full-on dancefloor weapon, not to be missed. Up next, the Rave Mix does exactly what it says on the tin, delivering a high energy slice of rave goodness. Powerful, puncy kicks and crispy hats provide the backdrop of a saturated 303 groove with an underlying bass rumble. The vocal dominates on the break as big synths stack up for that definitive arena experience that will not disappoint. Concluding the release, Jens, Fly and Dany get to work on their Crunchy 303 Mix which is a stomping 303 laden gem. Heavy acid lines contrast against murky pads while on the break, the sublime vocal is joined by soft melodies before a chaotic build up delivers the drop where we’re treated to some hair-raising old skool piano moments.

Our next foray into the world of 12” vinyl sees three classic cuts from Tyrome - aka Kris Vanderheyden and Pascal Deneef, remastered for today’s standard and pressed onto glorious wax for that nostalgic feel. Tyrome formed in 1996 and quickly gained a following with their brand of electronic dance music. Their first outings appeared on the famous Bonzai Trance Progressive label where they’d deliver these three top-notch joints before appearing on other labels. Kris is a Belgian techno and electronic music producer who is considered one of the leading pioneers of the Belgian techno scene. He is also known by his stage name Insider, as well as The Assistant and he belonged to a host of groups including Quick Reverse, Cherry Moon Trax and Tripomatic Allstars to name just a few and he contributed heavily to the Bonzai sound of the 90’s. Pascal is also a name synonymous with the 90’s techno sound in Belgium. He worked closely with Kris on several projects including Indicator, Technodrive, Total Remedy and Quick Reverse. His repertoire also includes the monikers Big Jim and Emoryt (Tyrome spelt backwards) and has appeared on a raft of labels over the years.
On the A-side we get a taste of Tyrome’s most famous groove, the 1998 joint ‘Electric Voodoo’, with its instantly recognisable vocal sample. A highly charged and energetic slice of trance with a nice techno edge that always gets the crowd moving. Our next foray into the world of 12” vinyl sees three classic cuts from Tyrome - aka Kris Vanderheyden and Pascal Deneef, remastered for today’s standard and pressed onto glorious wax for that nostalgic feel. Tyrome formed in 1996 and quickly gained a following with their brand of electronic dance music. Their first outings appeared on the famous Bonzai Trance Progressive label where they’d deliver these three top-notch joints before appearing on other labels. Kris is a Belgian techno and electronic music producer who is considered one of the leading pioneers of the Belgian techno scene. He is also known by his stage name Insider, as well as The Assistant and he belonged to a host of groups including Quick Reverse, Cherry Moon Trax and Tripomatic Allstars to name just a few and he contributed heavily to the Bonzai sound of the 90’s. Pascal is also a name synonymous with the 90’s techno sound in Belgium. He worked closely with Kris on several projects including Indicator, Technodrive, Total Remedy and Quick Reverse. His repertoire also includes the monikers Big Jim and Emoryt (Tyrome spelt backwards) and has appeared on a raft of labels over the years.
On the A-side we get a taste of Tyrome’s most famous groove, the 1998 joint ‘Electric Voodoo’, with its instantly recognisable vocal sample. A highly charged and energetic slice of trance with a nice techno edge that always gets the crowd moving. On the flip, Bossta returns to Bonzai on remix duties, following on from his last effort – I Can Hear You, on our main label Bonzai Progressive. Sticking with his own tried and tested production methods, Bossta does not disappoint here, delivering a solid progressive rework of the original. Chugging basses and tight beats stack up alongside melodic arps and tough stabs. The essence of the original creeps into the break which sets the pace for the final act. Concluding the B side, we welcome the legend that is CJ Bolland back to Bonzai with his Polterspook Mix. A celebrated artist who has inspired a generation of electronic music lovers, CJ Bolland is the epitome of our scene. Here, he dishes out one of his very own masterclasses, setting the tone with huge kick drums against a backdrop of chilling FX. Sharp hats slice through the bass-laden kicks as an array of expertly crafted FX begin to emerge. The track reaches industrial strength levels and will no doubt blow the roof off any venue. More

German legend, Jens Lissat aka The Godfather Of Techno, joins forces with our very own Bonzai All Stars for the next Bonzai Records release titled, The Machine. Cut onto 12” vinyl, The Machine comes backed up with three solid remixes, offering a wide range of styles to get the party rocking. Jens Lissat is one of the biggest names in the club scene. His extraordinary career began in Hamburg in 1979 when he took up DJing.
In the 90's he was one of the founders of German Techno with projects like Interactive (Who is Elvis) and his label No Respect Records with his partner Ramon Zenker. Jens first appeared on Bonzai with his Prayers project, the track Imagination got a run out in 1997 on Bonzai Classics and Zounds and then in 2002 on XTC. The kings of the party Bonzai All Stars aka Christian Fly Pieters and Dany Van Der Rieten have been grabbing a lot of attention with their studio antics. This one marks their third effort as they take the retro rave sound, mix it up with contemporary techno grooves and spit out some good vibes.
Gracing the A side we have the Original Mix, which quickly forms into a dark, grizzly techno monster. Frantic patterns converge to the backdrop of powerful kick drums and a sinister pad. The break reveals a classic element before the build-up takes us to a huge climax that will definitely excite the floors. The mighty Push fills the A2 slot, digging out his infamous techno style for an adrenaline fuelled ride. Pounding kicks and superbly constructed percussions whip up the crowd as gnarly synth stabs and gritty basses contrast with dreamy vox and trance-like sounds. On the flip, Anonymize takes up the B1 slot. Fresh off the back of his Bonzai debut – Zombie Woman, the remix here takes on a full-blown techno persona. Dark and twisting, the groove lures you in, forcing you to move. Kai 5 concludes the release with a top-notch remix. Better known as Paul Mendez, his newly formed Kai 5 project debuted here with Strange Days, which quickly climbed the charts on many portals. On the remix, the order of the day is to deliver maximum impact and, thanks to a strong, rhythmic drum arrangement and dark rumbling basses, he does just that. Sweeping synths roll through as acid lines dish out that familiar squelch. An infectious groove that is destined to burn up the floors. More

German legend, Jens Lissat aka The Godfather Of Techno, joins forces with our very own Bonzai All Stars for the next Bonzai Records release titled, The Machine. Cut onto 12” vinyl, The Machine comes backed up with three solid remixes, offering a wide range of styles to get the party rocking. Jens Lissat is one of the biggest names in the club scene. His extraordinary career began in Hamburg in 1979 when he took up DJing.
In the 90's he was one of the founders of German Techno with projects like Interactive (Who is Elvis) and his label No Respect Records with his partner Ramon Zenker. Jens first appeared on Bonzai with his Prayers project, the track Imagination got a run out in 1997 on Bonzai Classics and Zounds and then in 2002 on XTC. The kings of the party Bonzai All Stars aka Christian Fly Pieters and Dany Van Der Rieten have been grabbing a lot of attention with their studio antics. This one marks their third effort as they take the retro rave sound, mix it up with contemporary techno grooves and spit out some good vibes.
Gracing the A side we have the Original Mix, which quickly forms into a dark, grizzly techno monster. Frantic patterns converge to the backdrop of powerful kick drums and a sinister pad. The break reveals a classic element before the build-up takes us to a huge climax that will definitely excite the floors. The mighty Push fills the A2 slot, digging out his infamous techno style for an adrenaline fuelled ride. Pounding kicks and superbly constructed percussions whip up the crowd as gnarly synth stabs and gritty basses contrast with dreamy vox and trance-like sounds. On the flip, Anonymize takes up the B1 slot. Fresh off the back of his Bonzai debut – Zombie Woman, the remix here takes on a full-blown techno persona. Dark and twisting, the groove lures you in, forcing you to move. Kai 5 concludes the release with a top-notch remix. Better known as Paul Mendez, his newly formed Kai 5 project debuted here with Strange Days, which quickly climbed the charts on many portals. On the remix, the order of the day is to deliver maximum impact and, thanks to a strong, rhythmic drum arrangement and dark rumbling basses, he does just that. A diverse ensemble spanning the House-spectrum, on the A-side we take a more deep and funky approach with UC Beatz bringing his known groovy flavours. Followed by Rawdio with some piano house vibes and bendrik keeping it fresh and crispy as always.
The B-side takes a more clubby turn with Deeleegenz dropping the snares and shuffled percussion in his Deep Jackin tune. Followed by Max Telaer who shows a darker side from himself with an absolute stomper that will set fire to the dancefloor.

Some of these versions might have come about because they were personal favorites of the artist in question, others might have been strongly suggested by their labels or by the publishing company, but all of them provide an entirely new perspective on what were already fantastic songs to begin with.
So there you have it--a further dig into this nebulous concept that reveals more unexpected connections and crossed paths. Understanding the hows and whys of the way these particular covers and collaborations came to be is as fascinating as just enjoying the music itself, and there really is a lot of great music to dig into this time around!
