Ten years on from its release on in 2015 on the Super Weird Substance label, ‘Summer Came My Way’ is issued as a limited edition 7-inch, b/w with a previously unreleased ambient mix. Written and produced by DJ Greg Wilson, mixed by Luxxury, featuring Merseyside vocalists, The Reynolds, the track gained much Balearic kudos and became a festival favourite, the 12-inch quickly selling out, as did the ‘Substance Select’ 12-inch on which it featured three years on. A smouldering groover for sure, right on time for a summer of ’25 revival.

Born out of the ashes of Darkwood Dub, one of the Balkans’ most revered alternative rock bands during the ‘90s/’00s, Bella Technika is the latest project of Bojan Drobac, the group’s guitarist and main songwriter. Joined by former bandmate bass player Milorad Ristic as well as opera singer Katarina Jovanovic, amongst others, Bojan has found a new direction with Bella Technika.
Bella Technika join forces with Super Weird Substance for Substance Select Vol.2, which features three remixes and an original production from the band’s debut ‘Section’ LP, released last year.
Continuing their prolific form, Greg Wilson and Ché Wilson provide the first remix, taking album opener ‘Reinvented Daily’ into psychedelic territory with vocoder and dub fx.
Lee Perry AKA Peza provides the second mix, a jacking, acid fuelled reimagining of ‘I Feel Light’ - alongside Sara Lucas’ primal vocal it evokes the halcyon days of house music.
Up next, Henry Greenwood provides a wonky, idiosyncratic version of ‘Heat Control’, with Katarina, Bojan and Milorad’s repetitive vocals floating over a steady chugging groove.
The EP finishes up with the original fully titled ‘Suddenly I Feel So Light’, exhibiting the live band / electronic fusion that established their reputation across Europe.

Reigniting the long-standing creative partnership between Greg Wilson and Kermit Leveridge, Super Weird Substance was formed in 2014 on the back of their inspired collaboration on the 'Blind Arcade Meets Super Weird Substance In The Morphogenetic Field' mixtape.
A1) Written by Greg WIlson, 'Summer Came My Way' saw him collaborate with vocal force of nature, The Reynolds; twin sisters from the Wirral with a highly astute singing style and uncanny synergy. Having come into Greg's orbit with a series of luscious, dubby edits, Luxxury was approached to do a mix of the track for SWS' first vinyl release and it's since taken on a life of its own. Unavailable on vinyl for a couple of years, a reissue felt well overdue.
A2) A project of countercultural connector David Bramwell, Oddfellow's Casino is an outlet for his song writing, which draws from psychegeography, mysticism and leftfield folklore. David Bramwell contacted Greg about a remix of the track and Greg obliged with an ethereal, vocoder driven take that he worked on alongside studio partner, Peza. Following support from DJ Harvey, the track hasn't seen an official release until now.
AA1) A visceral disco funk jam that immediately grabs you by the groove, The Super Weird Society's 'Gone With The Vibe' built its momentum on the road in 2017 with Greg regularly featuring it at clubs and in festivals. The Super Weird Society include; Kermit Leveridge, The Reverend Cleve Freckleton and The Reynolds - an amalgamation of the label's key vocalists. Co-writer Henry Greenwood extends the mix.
AA2) The diversity of sound and nuanced vocal ability of The Reynolds has been instrumental to the label's sound since its formation, just as adept in the fore, as they are backing other vocalists. Mixed by Greg Wilson and Peza, 'The Best Is Yet To Come' is another Harvey pick, and has garnered support from legendary DJ Colin Curtis, who championed the Besse Banks original, has provided a number of spine tingling moments in clubs and festivals since its release.

140gram pressing in 3mm spine Disco Sleeve

Two lost Disco classics appearing for the first time on a single 12” featuring soul legend Leon Ware and Jo Ann Harris, a little known backing singer for Bob Dylan throughout the 80s.

Both songs originally appeared on the ‘20 Minute Workout’ Video and LP released in 1983 by Canadian label Ronco, ‘What Does It Take’ providing an uptempo crescendo to the third part of the workout and ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ the final warm down track. Licensed from producer Ira Newborn, Hollywood soundtrack royalty who composed the scores for an incredible run of films including The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Naked Gun trilogy, Weird Science, Ace Ventura and Uncle Buck. Ira’s lawyer persuaded him to get involved in the project for Ronco and it was Ira who hand picked Leon Ware and Jo Ann Harris to add vocals to two tracks to aid the commercial potential of the album.

There are two original versions backed with extended instrumentals sourced from a rare Lazer Disc Version of the album. It feels right to shine a light on one of Leon Ware’s lesser known performances, whilst the Jo Ann Harris cut has a distinct Balearic air featuring sultry keys and sax at a tempo of 98 BPM.

It's been some six years since Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve and Michel "The Hacker" Amato last delivered fresh material together. While we await further news of their long-mooted comeback, there's this tasty EP of previously unheard archive material to enjoy. Made up of tracks recorded between 1997 and '99 - when their production partnership was in its' infancy - The Lost Tracks Volume 1 contains a number of fuzzy, stylish, floor-friendly bangers, from the S&M-themed madness of opener "Leather Forever" and stripped-back electro gem "Nightlife" (a tribute to Berlin clubs of the period, apparently), to the high-tempo acid-loaded freakishness of "Loving The Alien". Freestyle drop the first official reissue of a much sought-after UK boogie gem from Tony Jackson, originally released on the Switch label in 1983 and recorded at the legendary Landsdowne Studios! "Switch Records was started by myself alongside Bill Campbell in the early eighties", says Aaron Harry - a library music producer who began using Lansdowne Studios in Holland Park for his productions on the renowned Bruton Music label. The studios had been operating there since the late 1950s, becoming the breeding ground for some key & early UK jazz and pop records (owner Adrian Kerridge teamed up with Joe Meek to lay down the first recordings there in 1958). It was here that Harry and engineer Chris Dibble started to work together as a regular team. After spending some time at the studio observing them in action, Kerridge and (Burton MD) Robin Phillps "recognised what a good team Chris and I had become" continues Harry, "so, it was inevitable that I would also make pop music alongside Production Library Music." The output of the relatively obscure Switch label is the result of this work, and Freestyle has licensed 3 of the most hard to come by 12"s as part of their series of rare & foundation UK funk & soul records. This one, Steppin' Out on the Groove was written by the late Tony Jackson, "a renowned session singer/musician that I had worked with on numerous occasions" says Harry, and also a key brit-funk figure who formed part of a string of UK groups throughout the 70s and early 80s (Sweet Dreams, Midnight, Ritz & Indigo) and later went on to be successful as lead singer in Rage. He died in 2001. Backed up with a killer instrumental that really lets the solid production shine, this one is an essential in any DJ or collector's bag
