mineo - Don't Know My Name
After a huge remix for Psychemagik (Black Noir Schwarz), Crosstown Rebels prepares to release the highly anticipated next full EP from Tom Dinsdale's fast-rising solo alias, Minéo. Already getting a monster reaction on dancefloors, as Damian Lazarus will attest, 'Get Out Fight' displays Minéo's distinctively UK sound and idiosyncratic, patchwork production style. A 4-tracker that ranges from the punky attitude, wonky percussion and deep, growling grooves and vocal licks of 'Get Out Fight' to the hints of ska in Madness-sampled 'Killer (Rude Boy)' and the slinky garage, RnB-spliced edge of 'Soaking Wet' and low-slung ride 'Don't Know My Name' - this is a killer package, and statement of very creative intent. Tom Dinsdale aka Minéo first appeared on the scene last October when Jamie Jones and co. received a demo and snapped up 'Turn Out The Lights' for the Hot Creations imprint making it a huge club hit. A follow up release dropped on the illustrious Hypercolour last month and the latest was a remix for Todd Terry's 'Feel The Sun' out now on Southern Fried Records. Always a nurturing sort of label, a relationship with Crosstown Rebels started to bloom when Minéo came on board to remix Psychemagik's latest smash 'Black Noir Schwarz' - and the rock solid original material 'Get Out Fight' is set to be huge for the label as Minéo really comes into his own as an artist. It's also another example of the label's breadth of taste and its continually evolving catalogue.

Hot Creations hit us with another monster of a release this time from Tom Dinsdale (ex-Audio Bully's) under his new project Minéo. Title track 'Turn Out The Lights' is an intoxicatingly deep groover with a dense low riding bassline, punchy warm chords and an infectious dark male vocal adding a real standout element for the dancefloor. Over on the B-side label head Jamie Jones is on remix duty to deliver one of his best, picking up the pace and turning it into a deep and powerful techy monster, twisted and dark, perfect for the later hours. On a more uplifting tip, the second track from Minéo 'Off The Handle' again carries that distinct UK sound. Bass heavy with perfect underlying swing the track twists and turns through different percussion patterns with captivating distorted vocals riding through the many layers.

Life On Planets - Real High Key (Demuja Remix)
US-mainstay Phill Celeste AKA Life On Planets lands on Palm Recs for the first time with ‘Stay/Real High Key’ including a remix of ‘Real High Key’ courtesy of man of the moment Demuja. Life On Planets spoke about what the EP represents, stating: “Stay/Real High Key is a return to form focusing on grooves, storytelling and the raw feeling of live music. I recapitulate moments from the past and transmute them into fuel to create a brighter future.”
That nostalgic sense is felt right from the offset, as 'Stay' begins with funky guitar riffs residing atop driving kick-hat combos. Phill’s feel-good vocals feature throughout, whilst swinging synths create that signature upbeat feel. 'Real High Key' completes proceedings, taking the form of a gentle pop cut. It’s groovy, reflective and devilishly danceable, three traits that have come to epitomise Phil’s music in recent times.
Life On Planets is the solo project of singer/guitarist Phill Celeste. Melding hip-hop, R&B, soul and house in his original productions, the artist’s eclectic style has taken him from the streets of Baltimore to cities the world over. Releases on Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Double Standard and a myriad of other esteemed labels have propelled him into the global spotlight, whilst performances across the US, Europe and beyond continue to bring his sound to worldwide audiences.

Preditah - Glucose
2
Preditah - 1950
Celebrated UK producer Preditah makes his debut on Palm Recs with ‘Glucose’ & ‘1950’. The two-tracker sees Preditah going back to the roots of his iconic UK garage infused dance-floor sound. The double a-side acts as the third release on the label, fresh from the success of DRAMA’s Don’t Hold Back last month and Girls Of The Internet in May.
Preditah rose to prominence in the UK grime scene, signing to iconic collective Boy Better Know in 2013 before going on to produce official remixes for the likes of Disclosure, Skepta and Robyn to name a few. His productions have achieved BPI Gold and BPI Platinum status on several occasions, including 2017’s smash On My Mind with Jorja Smith and 2019’s So High with Mist & Fredo, the latter landing at number seven in the ‘Official UK Singles Chart’.
Preditah described how the release came to fruition, stating: “In this present moment I am in love with tech house, so this is my take on the genre. I've played a lot of shows in Ibiza and I can imagine Glucose going down well in that environment. 1950 represents a time before my time, a time where the 'bassline' was the top-line melody and the surrounding elements complimented it. I made this for the club scene.”
That Balearic feel is felt right from the get-go on Glucose, as four-four drum patterns converge on a pumping, house-led groove. Preditah’s innate garage influences shine through in the female vocal hooks, whilst whispering hats march on in the background to form a summer heater through and through. 1950 opens with reverberating lyrical samples and an infectious rolling bassline, before warming synth stabs arrive to create a feel-good, late-night cut.
