Since launching in 2018, Aaron Andrew and Steve Sullivan's Chubby label has become a trusted - if frustratingly irregular - source of high-quality deep house. Their latest missive, the Aussie imprint's first release since the autumn, is their most expansive yet, with four fresh cuts (each with an accompanying remix) stretched across two slabs of wax. Aleqs Notal goes ultra-deep on immersive and hypnotic opener 'Planetary Insanity', which is subsequently given an equally spacey revision courtesy of Life Recorder. Cheerier and breezier deep house warmth comes courtesy of Jose Rico's 'Agonias' and Leonidas' slightly darker revision, while Nail's squelchy, early morning take on Ewan Jansen's bubbly 'Basillica' is one of the EP's standout moments. Arguably best of all though is John Beltran's gorgeous revision of David Swatten's brilliantly bittersweet 'Wave Energy'.

Australian label Chubby! got off to a strong start with a split 12" from Ewan Jansen and Trinidadian Deep, and now they're back for a second bout that features further ruminations on how deep deep house can go. Trinidadian Deep returns, this time shoring up on the A side with some of his distinctive percussive patter and soaring, soul-drenched melodics. "Rebel Fract" is a stunning track in its original form, and then Vincent Floyd comes on board to deliver a classic, Chi-town flavoured version that makes the perfect foil to the fluttering organic tones of the source material. Javonntte is on the B side with "Jazzy Day," rolling out the kind of smart, bumping house music he's made his name on, leading with expressive, nimble work on the keys. Patrice Scott steps up for a remix to round the EP out, maintaining the swing but edging some of his swirling, ethereal tones into the mix.

Immersed in raw & soulful music, Chubby has spent years hosting the likes of Move D, Kai Alce, Mark Grusane, Vincent Floyd, Anthony Nicholson, Hanna, Vakula, Specter, John Gomez & many more. 'Various - Volume .1' see's an original from fellow Australian and deep house artist, Ewan Jansen with a striking, melodic house cut. It's been stripped back by Detroit's 'Moods & Grooves' label boss, Mike Grant who rounds out the A side with his deep and moody take. On the flip is another original from a master of deep, spiritual music, Trinidadian Deep, and a remix fit for the club from Japanese producer Yuji Takenouchi Aka Mr.YT."
