The inception of 49North marks the beginning of a brand new era for Duncan Forbes; who most emphatically made his mark on the WW scene as one half of legendary duo - Spooky - alongside Charlie May; releasing a string of landmark singles and albums over 3 decades, not to mention timeless remix / production work for International heavyweights like Depeche Mode, M83, Sasha, William Orbit, Mr.G and Apparat.
A1: ‘Strobe Dancer’
“Duncan Forbes’ maiden solo voyage and first ever release on recently birthed imprint, 49North - 'Strobe Dancer' is 9+ minutes of exquisitely-paced, hypnotic dance-floor drama. Sitting somewhere between Deep, Acid House and Slo-mo, Dub Techno - Duncan's opening effort is a wickedly brooding, yet seductive joy to behold.”
B1: ‘Continental Drift’
“After the hypno-House stylings of 'Strobe Dancer' - Duncan takes us to another far-flung corner of his scopic, creative spectrum - via the fittingly titled, ‘Continental Drift’; a pitched-down, acid-glazed slice of mesmeric, widescreen Electronica.”
B2: ‘In The Mansion Of The Gods’
“And for the final third of 49North’s 12” debut - Duncan beckons us into the dark room. Where, upon entry, we’re straight away surrounded by an expansive, ominous atmosphere, whilst waves of echo-chamber dub engulf the senses and a fierce, unrelenting rhythm - both sucker-punches and entrances.” More

Duncan Forbes returns to 49North with a super fresh sounding 4 track EP, all killer no filler !
First up is ‘Moods Shift And Flicker’ which eUortlessly fuses Duncan’s love of Detroit and dub techno with his love of Chicago house music and spoken word all underpinned by an infectious disco bass line. Following on and taking things up a level or two we are treated to the uplifting peak time monster that is ‘Time Is Now !’. Peak time melodic techno that will be just as at home in any large open-air space as it will in a dark basement. Third on the menu is Spectra, a no holes barred sonic battle weapon that will take you to the stars and back as it builds and builds. Desert is served up in the form of ‘I Wanna Know’ a solid 808 electro workout with one foot in the 80’s and the other somewhere in the future which asks the questions ....How Come The Quantum ? Duncan Forbes - Floating (Kassian Bio Remix)
2
Duncan Forbes - Another World (Borai Remix)
3
Duncan Forbes - Serendipity (Legowelt Remix)
Revisiting Duncan Forbes’ debut solo album ‘Return Of The Strobelight Kid’ on 49North we now have three wonderfully fresh takes on three different tracks from the album.
First up we have Kassian who tackle ‘Floating’ and they step up to the mark with grace and turn in a peak time, hypnotic, yet melodic, tech house groover that will light up any dancefloor.
Next Borai takes on ‘Another World’ and using the sweeping analogue strings from the original he lets them soar over funk fuelled shuYling hats and clattering snares. He draws you in gently and when the bass drops, buckle up for the ride !
The third and final remix comes from none other than Legowelt. His no holes barred high energy take on ‘Serendipity’ is full of analogue warmth and grabs you right from the start. Layers of electro charged arpeggiated lines fuse with the strings from the original underpinned by a driving rhythm to propel you forward into the future and beyond.
The 49North journey continues.......... More

Duncan Forbes - Santa Cruz Roller Coaster’ (Ciel's 'Pleasure Point' Remix)
“For this 4th, vinyl-led outing - Duncan and his ever-expanding band of 49Northian remix talent, bring us the ‘Santa Cruz Roller Coaster’ EP. Spearheaded by the future-bound, percussive powers of the DF original - this exhilarating and visceral slab of locomotive break-beat is set to tower above and envelop many an underground floor in its wake.
Leading the B Side-remix charge meanwhile, we have the utterly singular, evergreen genius of DMX Krew; who - after allowing us to bask momentarily, in a warm and gentle sonic space - quickly pulls the directional rug from under us, and U-turns with an incisive, snarl-loaded Electro-Funk attack.
That is, before - Toronto’s bold and fearless rising star, Ciel - closes up proceedings with a wickedly contrasting interpretation, loaded with poise and suspense. But it’s the restraint and precision she exercises when wielding these ingredients - that truly makes her ‘Pleasure Point’ remix such a cunningly smart and quietly powerful piece of dance-floor weaponry.” More

Duncan Forbes - Rise Above’ (Mr. G's ‘Changing Timez’ Dub)
2
Duncan Forbes - The Future Of Love’ (Bodhi Remix)
3
Duncan Forbes - Quantum Particles Falling From Space’ (Duncan's ‘Mining The Dust’ Remix)
With his sensational full length debut, now well and truly bedded in - Duncan now treats us to the first of two, super special ‘Return of The Strobelight Kid’ - Remix EPs.
Taking pride and place, as the sole rework on side A, is Mr. G’s beastly ‘Changing Timez’ dub of ‘Rise Above’. A track full of poise, playful experimentalism and sub-licked attitude - it’s one that positively writhes in its own, wonderfully succulent, analogue filth.
Then, kicking off Side B proceedings and taking on album closer - ‘The Future Of Love’ - we have the refreshingly singular, duo-driven talents of Bodhi; who, full of confidence and clarity of vision - boldly choose to take the delicate, soul-quenching OG into unexpectedly fierce, propulsive and heads down Techno territory… a roll of the dice mind, that pays dividends and then some.
And finally - wrapping up Side B on this first ‘Return Of The Strobelight Kid’, remix EP - is Duncan himself…who here we see re-mould, ‘Quantum Particles Falling From Space’, into an even more incisive, heavily snarled and intensely rifling slice of forward-thinking Jungle-meets-Techno weaponry.
