The second release on Eclair Fifi’s River Rapid Imprint comes from none other than Santiago Salazar.
Following on from the Afrodeutsche RR001 EP - This new release brings 2 brand new tracks from Salazar - Piano Adjacent and Cosmic Powwow both secret weapons from Eclair Fifi DJ sets.
Santiago Salazar relocated to Detroit in the early 2000s to work with the legendary Underground Resistance Collective. Becoming part of Los Hermanos he continued the traditions of Latin Techno established by DJ Rolando in 1997 as well as releasing under his own name and as S², Seldom Seen and as part of Galaxy 2 Galaxy as well as an incredible amount of other music and projects for labels such as Planet E, Rush Hour, Seventh Sign and many more. RR002 Follows his other releases in 2019 including “The Night Owl” Album on Love What You Feel.
River Rapid is the new label from acclaimed DJ Eclair Fifi. Known for her tastemaking dj sets steeped in upcoming exclusives and unknown rarities as well as her essential monthly radio show on NTS.

Legendary Los Hermanos member Santiago Salazar’s album ‘Aspirations For Young Xol’ is given a vinyl release courtesy of Rekids. A heartfelt dedication to his son Isaias, ‘Aspirations for Young Xol’ takes us through the life of a pillar in the electronic music community - Santiago Salazar. From his formative years spent in California to his connection with Detroit and the passing of a childhood friend, the long-player’s tracks signpost the musician’s significant experiences, both positive and negative. This meaningful body of work was released digitally on Pastel Voids and now Rekids release the album on wax. ‘Saturated Fear’ sets a deep tone for the LP, flanging melodies and echoing claps float through the composition before the album’s title track ‘Aspirations for Young Xol’ offers haunting arpeggios with occasional acidic overtones which are cleverly offset by beautifully designed lead synth transitions. ‘Bloodlines’ follows a similar musical vein with delayed bass riffs that are suspended above shimmering hihats and a weighted kick. Santiago provides three beatless pieces throughout, which digress into more emotional territory whilst offering brief respite from his heavier drum work. ‘Xol’s Pain’ combines orchestral strings and swelling synthesisers which build tension with a subtly complex, evolving motif. Both ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Ode to Stinson’ use arresting atmospheres, warped arpeggios and ethereal pads which lull the listener into a retrospective mood. An intensity builds in the later tracks, a gritty but powerful low end provides a solid foundation in ‘Orange Blossom Thump”, eventually making way for a hectic and elastic lead synth before ‘Pachuco Dub’ displays drones that build a dissonant pressure in which the complex tom rhythms and rolling hi hats can grow. ‘Sarah Rivera’ hypnotises with its delectable chord progressions and complimentary melodies which seem to float above a rigid drum composition to close the album with style.

Nomadico's "Shards" remembers the future of Techno beginning with restlessness and urgency. A time where disco, funk, hip-hop and electro rocked hood parties via boomboxes, DIY recordings and sound systems. Our culture has since been shattered into shards that must be reconstructed, reshaped, remixed and reconnected. The A-side launches with the broken techno of “Somos Cosmos” then onto the hi-tech funk of “Antivenom” and “Volcanismo” followed by the b-boy breaks of “Radiotron”. The B-side explores UR inspired electro on “Disconnected” and “Electroreceptor” followed by dark and moody “Hyper Cypher” and “Tlalocan”.

Esteban Adame aka Frequencia drops the track list for an intergalactic backyard party with the Chicano Boombox EP. Esteban’s music career started as a DJ in L.A.’s East Side backyard party scene, he then stepped up his musical game by collecting gear and studying the piano. His evolution into a professional musician led him to gigs around L.A.’s jazz and salsa scenes. But he never lost his love for DJ culture and electronic music and that led him to join Mad Mike’s Galaxy 2 Galaxy band through his mutual friendships with UR’s Santiago Salazar and Yaxteq’s own DJ Dex. He’s released music on esteemed labels such as Underground Quality, Dolly, Mister Saturday Night, EPM, Jealous God and more. He also collaborates with DJ Dex as El Coyote.

“Rush The Floor” makes you want to do just that with its hypnotic lead synth and a breakdown that will leave the dancefloor wanting more. “Deep Function” flexes musical chops via soulful chords and a perfectly timed solo all riding over a thumping house beat. “Still Here” recalls classic Detroit Techno methodology as a reminder to keep the inspiration flowing. The EP is rounded out with “The Promise” a driving yet euphoric track perfect for watching the sunrise after a long night.
