Within just one year, the Leipzig-based label Self Learning System has established itself as a serious and cheeky contender in the electro scene, and the third release aims to live up to this claim once again. DJ Unisex surprises with Chromatic Stimulations, as his four otherworldly tracks unfold a no-frills attitude on par with a trippy sound design between a revealing in and outro. This EP is not afraid to present raw and unsettling machine noises and rather revels in the bubble bath of reverberating and resonating synths from late night hardware sessions.

Electrodefender - Cronberg In A Dream
SELF starts 2024 with an international affair. Electric Vandalism is the logical result of decentralized networking that has never been dependent on the "pay for play" logic of agenda-setting magazines and platform gatekeepers. On the contrary, we are definitely interested in abolishing it - see the title of "12".
A1) Viikatory starts "03" with Autobahn-pads and an assertive beat, which develops in a straight line in the second drop, giving the bassline extra life. Many people know the newcomer from Minsk from our tape compilation or from her gig at Leipziger Neue Welle.
A2) In "I Need Your Energy", Swedes Luke Eargoggle & Freddy lay a catchy melody over the 808 pattern, which develops a certain Modern Trips quality in combination with the repeating dialog. Luke runs the legendary label Stilleben Records.
A3) The West Coast Dutchman Edo8 is no stranger to Clone, if you know what I mean. With "BreakOne" he aims straight towards Detroit jit in tempo and style. The syncopated, floating bass barely catches its breath between saturated drums. This track will fire up the deviant electro kids at the end of the A-side.
B1) We were able to introduce Olivia, a producer from Krakow, at the first label party at mjut in Leipzig. She regularly releases tracks on the Rotterdam label Pinkman and forms the duo Radiation 30376 with Chino. Her track "Grzybnia" aptly fits perfectly with the interwoven filter movements over the harsh industrial beat.
B2) DJ Unisex brings the pulse down cold with "Conflict Data", makes the subjects despair under vibrating mirrors and nails the claustrophobic groove with a perfect acid line. What is grace?
B3) The Frankfurt Electrodefender has the answer with his forgiving "Cronberg In A Dream": dopamine synth pads point to the funk dancefloor, the white sneakers are ready and the red tracksuit demands robotic moves. After the vandalism, the sun always rises again.
The artwork for the 12" EP was created by Amelie Göppel from Leipzig.

Friedrich Ernst - Rhythm Control
The second strike of Leipzig’s new electro offshoot sets Friedrich Ernst on the offensive. With these four new tracks he progressed his sound signature from a playful but reflected 8bit world soundtrack on SELF001 to a firm and gritty b-boy attitude. With SELF002 the do-it-yourself label team of DJ Unisex and Friedrich Ernst back up nothing less than their label mission: "We believe in the human mind as a self-learning system" – and it has the basement dance in the eye. Classic electro otakus will parté about the succinct elements that fits each other seamlessly on Class Beat while the groove remains alert and phantasmagoric. Back 2 The Ol_ Skool invites two breakdance crews to battle out who owns the floor: the pale electro robot boys on the left and the hoover sound loving UK hardcore girls on the right. Wildstyle is the living proof that a tight 808 groove still smashes especially hard when complimented with a proper breakbeat. Best played loud and from vinyl. The last bit of the whole enchilada is almost tranquilizing until you realise how far your stone rolled already. Rhythm Control is a crowd pleaser with endless qualities. Collaboration partner Dominik Widmann delivers the stunning artwork again for their ongoing conceptual series with his acrylic paintings. Included as A2 inlay print in every record.

Self Learning System present their very first record and deliver a new label focussing on conceptual work as well as interdisciplinary art in full effect. We believe in the human mind as a self-learning system - creators and originators connected all around the globe aiming to keep the scene alive. We want to cultivate a community and platform for exchange with other artists pursuing music, design, art and events. Our first strike comes as “The Arrival Of Unisex & Ernst”, a split EP of the two labelheads to introduce themselves and the sound of SLS. The record contains six analog hardware tools ranging from classic Electro to Industrial. SELF001 also includes an A2 inlay print of Dominik Widmanns acrylic painting „Fabric“ (as pictured). His artworks will cover our first three records, fitting perfectly with the cold and futuristic soundscapes we want to showcase. Self Learning System is based in Leipzig, where we work together with the local R.A.N.D. Muzik record pressing plant and InchByInch distribution.
