David Versace is an Australian multi-genre keyboardist, composer and producer based in Meanjin, Queensland. Growing up in a very musical household it was always important to express and embrace all types of music and sonics. His sound ranges from Jazz and Samba to ambient works and the odd dance-floor heater. David also plays in Meanjin nu-jazz dance outfit First Beige.

On-Ly is the solo and collaborative moniker of pianist and producer Joshua Smeltink. Spanning genres, On-Ly's house and hip-hop history is ever-present and imbued with the hard-hitting post-bop jazz-rock of the 60's / 70's, harking back to bands such as Weather Report and Miles Davis Group (70s).

Reflecting on great leaders and great bands and what makes them essential; there is not too much more that On-Ly has considered for Wonderlust. Distinct in that it inaugurates his first release with a band; Wonderlust simultaneously pulls at the coat-tails of Santana's Moonflower, The Mars Volta and the original Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters all whilst serving you some Bob James on the side. The album takes on a facilitating role in the style of great psychedelic albums as one finds themselves at the whimsy of through-composed pilgrimages to soft, heartfelt song and back to sun-soaked heights woven with engaging arrangement, a one-of-a-kind production style and an incredible pedigree of musicianship.

Multi-dimensional future-jazz outfit JK GROUP release a new EP, Rising on La Sape Records. The brainchild of award-winning saxophonist, Joshua Kelly (30/70 collective, PBS Young Elder of Jazz 2019), the band returns to the label with a follow up EP to the mind-bending 2021 release, What's Real? Where What's Real? served as a platform for wild experimentation, Rising returns to a more considered and familiar format for the band, offering up 4 cohesive tracks that are deep in conception and expression, at once original and fresh. Conceived after recording an as yet unreleased body of work written whilst undergoing chemotherapy, Rising celebrates bandleader Josh's survival and eventual recovery from the intense treatment he received for lymphoma in 2020. The band stays true to their honed format of jazz traditions melding with influences from electronica and beyond. Like the first release, The Young Ones, Rising sits comfortably in the crossover of raw, live jazz and electronic dance music, whilst also throwing an unexpected curveball to the listener expanding the palate of the bands sound to a pigment never before heard in their music. The EP takes you on an emotional journey throughout the four tracks, best listened to start-to-finish.

After releasing their aptly titled first three LPs (I, II & III) GODTET concluded theirtriptych with the idea of a 'clean slate'. To allow the universe of GODTET to growthe band hit reset somewhat. Returning to their original conception of the band;Hitting record in the studio without preconceived thought or discussion on theoutcome.After recording Meditations GODTET were asked to pay homage to the great JohnColtrane at The Sydney Opera House during their lockdown web series in 2020. Tocelebrate the 50 year anniversary of 'Giant Steps' GODTET reimagined the seminalbody of work into one long set. The band collaborated with local artists Chris Cooper& Sam Whickham who designed the audio visual aspect of the show. And after anastounding reception, decided to utilise the two artists to build upon Meditations.The 'Suite' EP (which features on the B side of 'Meditations') is the amalgamation of the earlier GODTET LP sounds and Godriguez's produced albums, through-composed as a 15 minute suite. To be true to the long-form, through-composed piece, the band recorded this release live; one take, no over-dubs and straight totape much like the 'Meditations' sessions, but composed.The cathartic opening of 'Suite' awakens the gods with a sombre Welsh men's choir.Their vibrato ripples across the ocean as the second movement lands the listener inthe Solomon Islands where bamboo sticks are tapped against rock. As the bandnods to 'Struck Bamboo Pipes' from their last LP. Dub Horns blaze out of thecalming movements, fractured polyrhythmic, post-dub-step energy takes hold. 'Thesounds bleed into a neighbouring Trinidadian street festival as they march acrossthe Atlantic. The end is nigh, Moroccan percussion and vocals dance as Godriguez'sroots shine bright. What it all a dream? A Ghanian 'Women's Choir' lulls backconsciousness. The 5-piece bids us farewell, sounds of the forked harp and Baoulemen singing is all that remains. And just like that, the trip is over.
