Mysterious, melodic and dark - Portuguese can-do-no-wrong-er Lake Haze is back, adding to his impressive catalogue a four-tracker EP named 'Coordinates Of A Decaying World' for Lisbon's ever-attentive Paraiso. Off-beat toms and rim shots paired with squelchy, slippery, acid make the opener, 'Galactic Federation', feel as bouncy and polyrhythmic as a non 4/4 track, playing a delicious illusion on the audience - completed emotionally by beautifully textured stabs and pads that speak of longing and perhaps of ethical space exploration to escape the pains of this Earth. Reverb-drenched arpeggio acid and digital choirs welcome the listener in a grandiose, almost goth-like way, offset by an improvisational, on-the-go arrangement spirit, an impression that is met by the track title 'Jamming in Dracula's Castle'. The B side opens with fat kicks and bass, its textures reminiscent of dutch and Belgian rave traditions; expertly merged with a Moroder-like synth-a-delic motif - always propulsed by that driving, taking-no-prisoners bass and acid lines. The last track of the EP takes us to sunlight-drenched territories in comparison, with a warm sub bass and classic breaks serving as a base to another one of Lake Haze's expertly programmed acid lines. The beautiful pads and melodies prevail, but the feeling in this closing number gives us an optimistic glimpse into a better future, after an EP that is about showing us some moodier, shadowy emotional rave bangers.

Portuguese artist Lake Haze (Goncalo Salgado) makes his return to Shall Not Fade with an album of spacious club music. Salgado is a key player in Portuguese musical exports, delivering masterful blends of techno grooves and retro melodies, and released his debut LP on E-Beamz in 2019. This second LP is titled Sun Rising On Concrete Landscapes.

This record explores further the atmospheric, slightly melancholic timbre to Salgado's music. The use of reverb across the LP elucidates a sense of looking back to the past; "The Rave That Saved My Life" sounds like echoes from a distant memory. It turns the sounds of the rave into something sombre, expansive and scattered with space age breaks.

The title track feels dramatic, starting with melodic loops and scattered percussion but building into an untamed electro banger. The sci-fi theme develops in a gorgeous soundscape of minimalist synth stabs in "She Took Me To Her Favourite Club", while "Always By Your Side" lingers in echoing percussion; the purposefully dated snare gives it some hints of an 80s ballad - deeply retro and deeply emotional.

Salgado turns to more raw, club-ready sounds like the scattered breaks and electronic sound effects of "Neurotoxins Dancing On My Tongue" or the punching kick and creeping acid trills of "Liquid Serotonin". His skills as a producer are clear as he constructs the cavernous "Digital Petals" with reminiscences of classic trance sounds. The expansive LP closes with "Emotional Encore". It's an industrial retro chugger with the dust of lofi sounds across it, eclectic and headsy.

Next up on Creme Organizaiton is Lake Haze. The Hague based Portuguese artist is a regular on this label having put out four EPs in the last two years. He's also linked with Unknown to the Unknown and Shall Not Fade so is an esteemed talent with a blistering sound that fuses futuristic techno and electro into storytelling dancefloor dynamite. Space Reservoirs kicks off this EP with slow but heavy drum work, acid twitches and spooky cosmic echoes. The Observer picks up the pace with quick and slick kicks from the streets of Detroit overlaid with ripping electro basslines and deep space atmospherics. Unexplored Oceanic Territory is expansive electro with busted drums and echoing pads that add real scale before more acid finishes things off with real rawness. Prototype is dark and heavy, with another searing baseline and crisp metallic hits, then Into The Unknown is a blissed out electro roller with dreamy pads and twinkling keys melting into the cosmos. It closes out another essential EP from this timeless producer.

Next up Creme Organization is a return by regular artist Lake Haze. Following his Natural Insight EP earlier in the year comes Intergalactic Communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. The Portuguese artist known as Goncalo Salgado also please son labels like Unknown to the Unknown and is a real hardware master. At The Gates ov Futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. Drexciyan Aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. Poseidon's Dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. Last of all, Intergalactic Communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic EP with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

Cultivated Electronics starts off its 2024 release schedule with an all electro family affair from father and son duo The Advent and Zein Ferreira. "Elektronically Minded EP" is the first of two releases scheduled on the label from them this year. For this first instalment the pair turn in two tracks of expertly crafted production that pays homage to the history of the genre with their own modern twist. Silicon Scally, the alias of electronic music producer Carl Finlow, released his critically acclaimed album 'Mr Machine' in 2002 on SCSI-AV. The album was a masterful blend of electro and sci-fi soundscapes, showcasing Finlow's unique style and production prowess, which took the listener on a journey through a futuristic world of machines and technology. Matti Turunen is probably best known for his work as Morphology (with Michael Diekmann) but here he goes it alone for a new EP on Cultivated Electronics vinyl-only series, Cultivated Electronics Ltd. Finnish electronic maestro, Turunen's previous solo ventures without his Morphology cohort are rare. The last time was a track for AC Records in 2013 (which was remastered earlier this year for Bandcamp), but appearances have also cropped up on Abstract Forms, Muhk and Bliq in previous years. For his 'Radau' EP on CE Ltd he turns up the Electro-funk to the max with lush arrangements, dulcet melodies and gritty beats - there's a warmth in the machines.

A new EP by UK DJ / producer, Controlled Weirdness lands on Cultivated Electronics Ltd (CE's vinyl only sister label) in July. Heads will know Controlled Weirdness (real name Neil Keating) from his monthly radio show on Threads, his Presence Unknown label and Electric Sweat events. But he's actually been rocking the decks since the mid-'80s when as a youngster, Electro and early '80s pirate radio started his obsession with electronic music and he played his first gig at "The House of Dolls" in Farringdon where he soon became resident. After a stint in New York from 1989 he met Joel Bevacqua aka DJ Deadly Buda, who after returning to his hometown of Pittsburgh invited Neil to play at the first ever rave there in 1991, leading to a 6-month stint of events. Neil eventually returned to London in 1992 and started a radio show on pirate station Chillin FM alongside his sister, Stacey (later known as NoYeahNo). Many more events followed until in 1996 he formed Unearthly Records. Since then, he has played worldwide from plush clubs to dirty warehouses and has appeared on a variety of labels including Audio Illusion, Control Tower, Praxis, Zhark, Dirty Needles, Fdb and Still Raven. On 'In The Shadows' he delivers 4 earthy and raw Electro cuts with exciting electronics, tough beats and wonky acid.

IMOGEN has enjoyed a whirlwind rise, and her reputation as one of the most talented newcomers is well recognised. Her discography includes releases on Earwiggle, Shared Meanings and fabric where she is also a resident DJ, and presents a monthly radio show on NTS. She opens the compilation with the tough beats and twisted melodies of 'Anatta'. ARMEC (Robbie Mecrow) is an Electro and Acid producer from Manchester who has already impressed with releases on Nebulae, Echocentric, Further Electronix and most notably 20/20 Vision. His beat-led track 'Acute' delivers a serious punch with plenty of sub-bass. Russia's SERGEY TIMOSHOV is the promoter and resident DJ at Warehouse, held weekly at the Propaganda club in Moscow. Here he utilises that experience in fine style for his club-ready 'Electro Beats 1'. UK artists OBSERV and CYPHON collaborated on their debut EP for Gunfinger Food last year, but here they deliver 1 track apiece. Obzerv brings pure destruction on his tumultuous track 'Octro'. While Cyphon, known for his live hardware sets, supporting artists like Assembler Code, Radioactive Man and Afrodeutsche, plus releases on International Chrome and Blind Allies brings dark phunk to 'Nightmare'. KHALILIAN is probably best known as one half of US duo Joonam (with Elon Admony) who have been self-releasing on their Balagan label for the last few years. 'Valda' pitches things down with Detroit-esque chords and a deep, subterranean atmosphere. FAZACK is a 21 year old DJ/Producer from Cardiff now based in Bristol. Better known as a DJ, he's spent the past 9 year collecting records and garnering inspiration from all aspects of dance music. For the last 3 years he's focused on production and draws on cosmic influences for his contribution, 'Weightless'. LINDSAY GREEN is one half of Co-Accused, long-standing residents of Glasgow's prolific underground club scene via their club nights in Paisley's Club 69 and the launch of their Co-Accused Records label in 2021. Going solo for the closing track, 'Creepin' bridges to gaps between Electro, Techno and Acid.

'Inside The Microbeat' is the long-awaited debut album by Sync 24. London's Phil Bolland, known as Sync 24 has been flying the electro flag for over two decades via his popular Scand parties and beloved Cultivated Electronics label which he launched in 2007 as a direct response to the dwindling electro scene in the UK at the time. The label has gone on to feature many of his own releases, his collaborations with the likes of Silicon Scally (Carl Finlow), DMX Krew (they collaborate as MMT-8), The Exaltics and Morphology as well as playing host to many of electro's leading lights, eventually becoming instrumental to the scene's resurgence in more recent years. Now it's time to turn the spotlight firmly on his solo work. Across it's eleven tracks 'Inside The Microbeat' is not just a collection of 12"s although tracks like the album's name sake, 'Oriental Sunset', 'Drunk on Delays' and 'Lightwire' are firmly primed for the dance floor, there's also more experimental beat-work like 'Inspired Law' and 'Sluper Smashed', or retro electronica like 'Haunt Times' and 'Spatial Racing', as Bolland drives you through his own intimately constructed landscape.

Veteran French producer, Maelstrom made his Cultivated Electronics debut in 2018 with 'ECZO EP'. Now more than two years later and following a new album on RAAR, he returns with another EP, this time for CE's vinyl-only subsidiary, Cultivated Electronics Ltd. Joan-Mael Peneau has been making music for over fifteen years, with a history of aliases and side projects, illegal raves thrown in warehouses, fields and basements, but he soon came into his own under his Maelstrom moniker, releasing music on the likes of RAAR (the label he co-founded with Louisahhh in 2015), Cultivated Electronics, Central Processing Unit, Mechatronica, Private Persons and Discos Atonicos. Though his name suggests chaos, Maelstrom's music delivers intention, focus and precision that are evident on his 'Expression Directe' EP, which features four new tracks of deep and expressive electro-funk.

Kerrie made her impressive Cultivated Electronics Ltd debut in July with 'We Continue Part 1' which has grabbed the attention of media and DJs alike, recently featuring in DJ Mag's Staff Picks amongst other accolades. She now returns in September for Part 2. This Irish born, Manchester based DJ and producer has been rising in the ranks since first joining the Eastern Bloc crew and over time has taken her analogue live shows to the likes of Freerotation and The Warehouse Project. 2021 has also seen the launch of her label, Dark Machine Funk Recordings (DMF). Like her own label name suggests on 'We Continue Part 2', Kerrie delivers four more raw electro tracks bringing dark, twisted bass driven machine funk to Cultivated Electronics' vinyl-only offshoot, Cultivated Electronics Ltd.

Fellow Frenchmen The Hacker and Commuter take their inspiration from the TV series, Chernobyl to create an imaginary soundtrack for their collaborative EP on Cultivated Electronics, which has already been on full throttle in 2021 with releases by DMX Krew, London Modular Alliance, Morphology and Maelstrom across both CE and sister label, CE Ltd. Cultivated Electronics isn't letting up any time soon, with this new EP from two major forces of the scene who should need no introduction, having between them released over the years on labels including Zone, Mannequin Records, Klakson, Dark Entries, Bass Agenda, Elektrofon and too many others to mention. Here they deliver three new punchy electro tracks that convey their love of vintage electronics and machine funk, but with a modern touch that will hit all the right notes for electro fans, with names like 'Roentgen' (a unit of measurement for the exposure of X-rays and gamma rays) and 'RBMK' (Chernobyl's nuclear power reactor). The EP includes the added treat of a remix by MMT-8, otherwise known as Ed Upton (DMX Krew) and label head Phil Bolland (Sync 24) who deliver an escalated reworking of 'RBMK'.
