From the artist:
“It might settle around, never accepting or offering itself like a handful of water that holds its shape even as some leaks between the fingers. Its hardness holds no moisture. The stillness has no give, no reflection of the other. In this case at least it’s not even a coldness. That would imply disdain. The silent flowering of each word printed on the page before you. Like a word thought before it is spoken, or a note that is less sound than an exhalation"... More

- John Robinson is also known as Lil’ Sci from the legendary hip-hop group Scienz of Life. He has previously collaborated with many rappers and producers including Jneiro Jarel, Flying Lotus, MF Doom, J Rawls, Lewis Parker, Robot Koch, Kyo Itachi, PVD, etc…
- Chief has produced for Moka Only, Aloe Blacc, Blu, Sene, Dynas, Kissey Asplund, etc… and he's also known for his solo releases in a more electronic/beat genre. He’s the founder of Feelin’ music.
The collaborative effort, born out of mutual appreciation both personal and musical, shows two universes collapsing into one substantial outcome, a solid album blending elements of traditional hip-hop with modern productions. Over the sinuous course of its thirteen diverse tracks, “We the Prolific” showcases the distinctive flow and lyrics of John Robinson perfectly complementing Chief’s twisted productions, an unlikely alliance pushing the boundaries of hip-hop while preserving its backbone. The album features guest appearances by both confirmed and upcoming artists such as Kyra Climbingbear, Skitslam, Cymarshall Law, ID 4 Windz, Tiffany Paige, Jocelyn Ellis, and more. “We the Prolific” truly is a refreshing hip-hop exploit by these two confirmed driving forces of the current hip-hop and beats scene. What is this?
This delight of flicker and bent landing so delicately upon the ear?
It’s “peeled”, JJ+JS’ first outing on Daisart. It’s their second album, following their 2020 debut release as a duo, “1”, which saw JJ – John Jones (AV Moves, Geo Rip, among others) – and JS – Jesse Sappell (of Motion Ward) – flex their collaborative energies across an album of deep, textured meanderings in rhythm and sound on the perennial Lillerne Tapes. “peeled” sees the two pick up where they left off and veer into a ~ place ~ of sound, of sorts.
This place is likely familiar to those following the duo's output and goings-on, as one together and as themselves apart, but with a tweak to the framing of projects past, naturally. Where we find ourselves with “peeled” is reflective of the two’s interest in jamming without a specific destination in mind, a distillation of the two’s interests in a range of sounds and styles.
And though there is some arcane resemblance to all manner of ethereal music of the past, on this vaporous dream of a record, the haze shimmers somehow; the shake’s shudder is dissimilar.
There’s a pair of key interventions on this collection: one a wistful vocal guesting from Izella on the not-quite-folk mood ‘Lily Pad’, the other on ‘Syntropy’, where Daisart’s J pitches layers of texture and chord in polyrhythmic impression. Both bring something refined to the table on which JJ+JS work air into mirage, color into scene, folding the mundane into the magical.
For those of you versed in the catalogs of picnic, Motion Ward, West Mineral, and Experiences Ltd, a wander akin awaits on “peeled” – but this is not a much of a muchness likeness; more so a refreshing, important addition to the expanding catalog these two artists are crafting.

Wound Without A Tear is a compilation of “Australian” Ambient and Experimental Music; an area so often overlooked and misunderstood because it does not easily fall into historical context. However, the fifteen years (1993-2008) the collection cites–a period of early 90s post-rave ethereality defined by pleasure-centred spaces (chill-out rooms) and the personal computer’s emergence as a popular tool for file-sharing and secondary-living in the 00s–is befitting of closer examination.
The recordings were sourced from artists, labels, corrupted disk drives, CD-Rs, the WWW and archives of Melbourne’s 3RRR community radio station.
During the 1990s, as new technologies emerged and mass digital culture flourished, artists explored the emergent possibilities of the Internet with a utopian fervour, viewing the web and its plethora of images and information as a site of boundless potential. In the 2000s, file sharing connected people around the world directly to one another, and this incorporation of online experience into material objects, meant there was an increasingly porous border between the online and offline worlds–if there remained a border, at all.
What is remarkable from this collection is that so many people, working (mostly) on their own came up with such remarkably similar ideas. In most cases these similarities can be related to the inherent qualities of the medium, though often any distinction is decidedly blurred at the edges.
The compilation seeks to make the works of these various artists available as a means of “demystification”. No specific destination is intended upon. Perhaps by the time you have reached the end, you will have forgotten where you began. More
