HVOB release first live album and tour documentary

77 sold-out concerts in places such as Buenos Aires, New York, Mexico City, and the Funkhaus Berlin, stops in 34 countries and four continents: the Rocco world tour in 2019 once again underlined the role played by Vienna duo HVOB in the world of electronic music.

One of the highlights of the tour was in London on April 13, at the filled-to-capacity "Electric Brixton" music venue. The evening had already been planned in advance as an album, a lot of effort went into recording it in its entirety. "Live in London" will be the first live album by HVOB. It will be released on March 11.

A short documentary by Nicola von Leffern will be released at the same time as the album. The film director from Hamburg accompanied HVOB on tour and it delivers a very intimate, unfiltered insight into the musical lives and the routine aspects of touring for the normally publicity-shy HVOB duo Anna Müller and Paul Wallner.
HVOB are currently working on a new studio album that is provisionally scheduled for release in spring 2022.

The third and final EP from the latest album of HVOB is due for release on September 18.
HVOB's album "Trialog" was released in spring this year and continues to attract unwavering international interest. The interdisciplinary art project - prompting an invitation to perform a Boiler Room set in Vienna, touted by American Thump magazine as a contender for an "Album of the Year" award - is a perennial headliner on influential blogs and media such as XLR8R, Resident Advisor, i-D and ARTE after charting high on Beatport and iTunes. At the same time HVOB's world-wide tour continues to gather momentum, with concerts in cities from Cape Town and New York to Hong Kong and New Delhi.

The third and final EP from the "Trialog" album, "Tender Skin/The Anxiety to please", is now set for release on September 18. None other than Scuba and DJ Tennis have been enlisted to remix the double A side, the seventh EP from the electronic duo: Scuba manages to transform the fragility of "The Anxiety to please" into a subdued powerfulness, while the DJ Tennis remix of "Tender Skin" is similarly powerful and technoid.

"Tender Skin/The Anxiety to please" is released on September 18 as a double A side, on vinyl and digital on Stil vor Talent.

Above all, 'Trialog' is an interdisciplinary art project, comprising a discourse between the disciplines of sound, video and installation, realised by HVOB, the VJs licherloh and the visual artist Clemens Wolf. The theme centres on ten ubiquitous physical processes, which are being documented and interpreted interactively on three artistic levels; via Clemens Wolf's orchestrated processes, the lyrics and sounds of HVOB's tracks, and the visuals by VJs lichterloh.
II. Album
Tearing, mixing, bursting, melting, oxidising, breaking, imploding, etching, bending, burning, track to video, video to artwork, artwork to track: 'Trialog' depicts the transformation of ten physical processes in ten tracks. HVOB's sound distinctively shapes the album, yet the duo now interpret their acoustic palette in darker, more accentuated, techno-leaning shades. Each of the ten tracks pursues its own individual dramaturgy: the opener 'Azrael' tears apart its built-up percussive tension, 'Clap Eyes' inches along frailly, 'The Anxiety to please' deepens and condenses until it implodes. References, inspirations and associations between materials, processes and artistic disciplines create an artistic depth, which renders the album a highl complex and complete work of art.

Each track is therefore a self-contained piece comprising installation, music and video. The EP is made up of four tracks: "Window", "Oxid" and two remixes of the title track. HVOB has been fortunate enough to collaborate with luminaries of the music industry: Gui Boratto interprets "Window" as a pulsating, emotive anthem to the joy of life, Acid Pauli places Anna Müller's vocals at the centre of an almost nine-minute journey through the HVOB world of sound. Their debut "Dogs" took the Beatport Deep House Charts by storm. With their second EP "Jack" the Vienna-based duo HVOB fuel the anticipation for their forthcoming debut album. In 2012, a young duo from Vienna proved to be one of the great success stories of Europe's electronic music landscape: HVOB (short for "Her Voice over Boys") only uploaded initial snippets on Soundcloud last April, reached number 4 in the Beatport Deep House Charts with their debut EP "Dogs", number 10 in the Top Live Acts of the Year and number 11 in the Best Singles of 2012 in DE:BUG's readers' poll, while performing live at festivals such as Germany's Melt!. We Release Jazz is ecstatic (purrrr!) to announce the official reissue of Hiroshi Suzuki's glorious jazz-fusion-funk Holy Grail Cat (originally released in 1976), sourced from the original masters and available on limited edition 180 gram vinyl mastered at half speed for full audiophile sound, as well as on digipack CD. Both versions come with liner notes by Teruo Isono.
Cat was recorded in October 1975 at at Nippon Columbia Studio, while Hiroshi Suzuki was visiting his home country of Japan after moving to Las Vegas in 1971 to play with Buddy Rich and perfect his craft. Back on his old stomping grounds, the man known as Neko (Cat) immediately reunited with his dear friends for an epic two day session of groove magic. The chemistry was still intact. The skills and style had grown.
The result, Cat, is a smooth masterpiece, a deep and soulful affair where stunning trombone solos by Hiroshi Suzuki flirt with Takeru Muraoka's heavenly saxophone and the sensual rhythm section of Hiromasa Suzuki (keyboards), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass), and Akira Ishikawa (drums).
Celebrated in jazz collectors circles, in the lofi beat scene, and among music diggers around the world, Cat has become one of the most sought-after Japanese jazz albums of all time and, much like Ryo Fukui's Scenery, has fascinated old and young generations alike.

SCI+TEC celebrates a pivotal moment in its history with the release of I Feel Speed (2025 Remixes), a special project revisiting one of Dubfire’s earliest solo works and one of the label’s foundational releases. Originally released in 2007, Dubfire’s cover of Love and Rockets’ “I Feel Speed” marked a bold venture into uncharted territory, with the Grammy-winning artist taking on vocal duties himself to reimagine the iconic ballad.

In Dubfire’s own words, “Throughout my career, I’ve made no secret of my love—bordering on worship—for Love and Rockets (and, of course, Bauhaus). Tackling their soft ballad ‘I Feel Speed’ in 2007 was a daunting but transformative experience. Over the years, fans and colleagues have kept their love for that cover alive, which makes this new remix package even more meaningful.”

This release brings together a stellar list of artists, each offering a distinctive interpretation of the classic. Stephan Bodzin adds his signature emotive touch, while Yulia Niko dives deep into hypnotic textures. SNYL, whose admiration for the original track sparked the project, delivers a rework that strikes a balance between reverence and reinvention. Rafael Cerato and Laherte craft a dynamic reinterpretation, and indie dance pioneer Erol Alkan offers a genre-blurring remix full of energy and innovation.

Breakbot AKA Thibaut Berland - Ed Banger's newest and brightest star announces his debut album 'By Your Side''.
Having delighted dancefloors around the world with his infectious discoid funk of 'Baby I'm Yours' and 'Fantasy', and killer re-rubs for Justice and Metronomy amongst others, 'One Out Of Two' is the first single to be taken from this multi-instrumentalist's highly anticipated debut album 'By Your Side'. Crammed with soulful, robo-disco and emotive ballads, 'By Your Side' conjures up the ghosts of the Doobie Brothers, Todd Rundgren and Hall and Oates, as well as the nostalgic TV themes to 'Silver Spoons' or 'Punky Brewster'.
Berland explains : "My elder brothers had a huge influence on me when was I a kid. David the oldest introduced me to soul, funk and pop, making me tapes of michael jackson, prince, stevie wonder, madonna, phil collins and many other things. I remember spending lots of time in his bedroom listening to his records"
An art school friend of Justice's Xavier De Rosnay, in later years, the likes of Air, Alex Gopher, Mr Oizo and of course Daft Punk were on heavy rotation for Thibaut, this heady melange of all of the above helping to create the Breakbot sound.
Just like one of his biggest inspirations, in the form of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" it was Berland's intention to make an album that rewards you for listening to as a whole: "I guess you could say my album is more a pop songs album than a Berlin techno record with water drops sounds in it - I wanted to make a pop journey that would have all my influences, without being a reference catalog"
From the opening perfect slice of retro/future summer funk 'Break Of Dawn', it's clear that this has to be one of 2012's funkiest albums... 'Fantasy features the vocals of L.A. based vocalist Ruckazoid - an astonishing discovery whose honied pipes are a dead ringer for the late, lamented King Of Pop..'One Out of Two' features Irfane's irresistible vocals, in addition to four other tracks ('Baby I'm Yours', 'A Mile Away', 'Another Dawn' and 'Mayfly and the Light'). Björn from Pacific sings on the glorious 'By Your Side (Pt 1 & 2)".
"I do everything myself except the vocals. I just fiddle about, I couldn't play a classical part, I do what I can. There are pieces of guitar samples, friends drop-in and play over my instrumentals. I love pop and funk, so I try to take that direction. That's where that hybrid sound comes from. Breakbot is a dude in a basement looking for melodies", says the ever modest Thibaut.
