Our Starry Universe returns with it’s first release of 2022, the mesmerizing Mother Oak from Dan Wainwright & Elle Redding. The album is out on 12” vinyl and digital 22nd April. An Acid House/Cosmic concept album featuring Elle’s spoken word on Dan’s production, Mother Oak is about the life cycle of an oak tree from the perspective of the tree. “As we dreamed up a rough outline of the story, the music was created to personify the seasons and the emotions that were to come through Elle’s words.” Says Dan. It’s a deep listening experience. The kind of record one should listen to in one sitting on vinyl while you are staring at the lyrics on the back cover. “…it all just fell perfectly into place as Elle typed the story. It all came to life really quickly and was an emotional experience for me to enjoy something so beautiful as her creativity and it’s an honour to have that combined with mine.” Says Dan. He continues… “We made an album that carries meaning and wisdom and at the same time conveys our wonder, awe and joy that we both experience by being in nature and feeling connected to the forever changing cycles of our planet.” Dan Wainwright is a prolific producer in the underground with releases on Night Noise, Tici Taci, & Sprechen as well as a seemingly constant slate of releases on his own imprint Oddball Recordings.

Continuing to seek the positive in the face of the mutable and inevitable, your favorite hippy goths, Hazy James & Millennium Culkin, are back with a double single/double remix EP "Out For You." It’s the new follow up to their thuddingly ethereal, transcendent psychedelic debut, Days Go By… which became a bit of a summer anthem last year due to heavy support from Lauren Laverne on BBC6 & the crew at 1BTN. First up on the EP, title track, "Out For You" is an anthemic belter filled with ripping guitars (two solos....wtf?!), pounding arpeggiated bass, 808 drops, plus a dreamy break filled with slide guitars that rumble, build and explode underneath Hazy James' airy falsetto. Designed for arena madness and soundtracking your moments of catharsis. Not satisfied with just arena filling vibes, Each Other (Justin Strauss and Max Pask) take the original and twist it into a different experience which should really only be beamed down from a DJ booth orbiting the Earth to a fully global dance party. File this in the "Peak Time Festival" folder. Flipping over to the b-side, the energy is high but the feeling a little colder on "The Night" - a chugging, introspective, escapist anthem for anytime the sun goes down. Sonically it's a little goth-punk and a little bit acid house. NY icon, Juan MacLean picks up remixing duties and turns in a taut, lean, dark, body moving machine. Shimmering synth lines cascade over a rough hypnotic beat, conjuring memories of Maceo Plex hammering to a packed, smokey floor at Trade.

Need Somebody” is the debut single and debut release on Our Starry Universe for Hazy James, 1/2 of label mates Birds Of Pandæmonium. It’s a lush, melancholy slow house track that may move the soul more than the body. The b-side by Hardway Bros (Sean Johnston) highlights the brighter moments and adds beautiful, colorful arpeggiated melodies over a bouncy beat, creating a euphoric dance floor classic. Sean has been a huge supporter of the label recently citing its output as one of the highlights of 2020.
