Frank Hatchett was a legendary dance instructor and originator of VOP. VOP is not an abbreviation but, as he himself puts it: "VOP is a style". It's used to flavour the choreography and to communicate and translate emotions to the audience. The record produced by Don Alan Tipton is a wonderful complement of said VOP style. It features 11 tracks made for dancing that are produced and arranged in a moving and funky fashion.

Repress!
Sensational – that’s Frank Hatchett! These words can be found on many of the 16 albums credited to the legendary NYC jazz dancer, choreographer, and teacher to the stars - Madonna, Brooke Shields, Olivia Newton-John, and Naomi Cambell.
In the highlights compiled on this expansive double LP set, the sounds of Hatchett’s albums run the gamut from disco and funk in the 1970s to electro and proto-techno as they glide through the ’80s. Most tracks clock in at a brisk 2:30 – the ideal length for Hatchett’s classes or his students’ recital performances. Fans of library music will find a similar focus on immaculate performances, while the tightly coiled drum breaks, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and thumping 808s will send rare groove collectors into a state of head nodding bliss.
Hatchett’s name and photos may appear on the sleeves of his records like Dance Crazy, Jazz Power, or Vop Style, but he is nowhere to be found in the music contained within. Instead, these albums dating back to 1974 were recorded by studio players under the guidance of musical director Don Tipton or arranger Zane Mark. Performers include: keyboardist Fred McFarlane (Madonna, Keith Sweat, Evelyn “Champagne” King), drummer Bernard Davis (Steve Winwood, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Kool & The Gang). More

Soweto Soul Orchestra - Medley: Hang Em High/Down-Town
Soweto Soul Orchestra is produced and composed by Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, whose importance to South-Africa's music scene can hardly be underestimated. Being a formative member of The Beaters, which was later renamed Harari, he toured Africa extensively and even hit the American charts with their "Party" single. After Harari split in 1982, Sipho went solo and scored another hit with "Burn Out", which could be heard in every township, and produced and recorded for Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba among others.
The Soweto Soul Orchestra project boasts a variety of funky tracks, all marked with that jazzy South-African sound. The stand-out tune on this one, for us, is the epic 8 minute long cosmic disco cover of "Hang em High", the original soundtrack for the eponymous classic Western movie.
This 2020 re-issue sees all tracks cut again from the official studio files, ensuring both audio quality and originality.
Originally released on and licensed through Gallo, 1981. More

Chuks Ejelonu - No Title
If you were around some 36 years ago, and you are still around today, then you will again enjoy three of the six hit songs that ruled the music airwaves in Nigeria's 80's, filling you with nostalgia. If you are of today's people, then you will be fortunate enough to enjoy three evergreen songs that will take you to cloud nine.
Chuks Ejelonu, undoubtedly, Africa's answer to America's Stevie Wonder, at the age of 18, released an album on vinyl titled "Let's Make A Memory" in the mid 80's. It contained six hit songs that made great impact on the music scene. Selling thousands of copies in the West-African sub region it would go overseas months later, were copies of the album would hit the streets of London and New York. Despite being widespread in some regions, only a hand full of copies are located to this day.
With the coming of the internet, the album was displayed on several music sites and online music shops. Music lovers worldwide, scrambled for the album, purchasing it in the format of their choice, namely, vinyl, CD and MP3. Bootleggers/pirates also had their fair share of the sales of the album, even today, and prices on original copies soared. Chuks, on a monthly basis, still receives offers, calls, and mails requesting for the album.
Now, to meet the high demand, three tracks have been revived to, again, make an impact on diggers, dancers and listeners alike. The songs cut across all category of persons. A1's "Inner Vision" is a disco pop song that will capture the attention of today's generation. On the B-side, "Revelation-(Ibo)", a highlife/afro pop that will catch the attention of people that are culturally and religiously affiliated. And finally, "Let's Make A Memory": An upbeat country pop classic with an unmistakable African touch that will sit well with the older generation and blend with the young generation, a song for love seekers.
He thanks the team of Monte Cristo, for repackaging and rebranding him, his lovely wife/personal assistant Eno Pearl Ejelonu, for her support and ardent concern, his able manager, Ugo Ejelonu for his painstaking endurance and the greatest thanks to Jehovah God for the huge success.

A fruitful collaboration between lyricist Andrew Birtles, composer David Watts, producer Dave Foister, and the beautiful voice of Kym Amps of which only two tracks were released on a 7". Now, almost 40 years after the original release date, the full album finally sees the light of day through Monte Cristo.
Kym Amps' powerful and moving vocal performance is supported by minimal electronic new-wavish arrangements that were produced with, at the time, cutting edge equipment. More

Originally recorded in 1981, this album is best known for its tropical boogie bomb 'Let's Talk About It'. Having drawn attention from diggers for quite some time, it's finally available again on vinyl. Besides this killer boogie tune a selection of five other tracks from the album that have remained unknown to most people complete this French boogie / reggae / zouk re-issue.
