Back in 2017 Tear Apart Tapes released "Run", a song by Shakkatam. John Talabot immediately connected with it and played it as the closing in many of his dj sets. We are now grateful to present "Run" in a new context, with three covers from artists we admire: Cucina Povera, Celine Gillain and Dania. The original song and Dania's cover are out now. Mioclono is a new collaborative project by John Talabot and Velmondo that started at the end of 2016 when Oriol Riverola and Arnau Obiols did their first recording session at Angel Sound Studios in Barcelona, assisted by engineer Miquel Mestres.

Khidja continue to develop their tripped out vision with their first full EP for Hivern since 2019's 'Impossible Holiday'. In 'Something In The Water' the Romanian duo presents three new tracks that drift between genres and moods through open minded studio experimentation. "The Future Has Disappeared" and "Back To Vid" rely on contrasting sound palettes and a smart use of the stereo field to build up tension while 'Science of Ghosts' is an expansive number of galactic electro-funk. One year after the release of 'Alianza', Marc and Hugo deliver remixes of three cuts from their debut album. Each rework finds new paths for the original tracks while staying true to C.P.I.'s universe. 'Walking and Falling' is revamped with leftfield drums and atmospheres while 'Osera' and 'Sol' are rearranged as club tracks. More

Days' is like no other track Round has produced to date. For a start, it's the first song he has ever written without using samples. It's also the first time he's worked with a vocalist. Truth is that everything surrounding the track's conception is somehow exceptional. The melody came to Torsten as a sudden spark, which he discretely hummed into his phone while walking in Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen. "I always feel an urge to make music when I feel emotional, and like many other people I remember the emotional periods in my life", he recalls when questioned about what inspired him of that particular time and space. He then asked danish singer Astrid Engeberg to record vocals and after some work with the laptop the song was born. So simple, so special. The three remixes manage to be faithful to the original's haunting oddness while offering radically different takes on it. The 12" comes with a sleeve designed by Arnau Pi. *Note that B-side track-listing is inverted in the sleeve due to a printing mistake. More

Interchain's 'Plenum' remains as one of the most captivating HVNX releases. Composed of a series of sketches based on the duo's childhood memories of Perestroika in the USSR, the album epitomizes the idea behind the sub-label of releasing projects with a strong conceptual weight and a distinct aesthetic universe. In a way, it makes perfect sense that it occupies the central place of the catalog. Now comes its appendix in form of a remix package that brings together Kate NV, John Talabot, DJ Richard and Interstellar Funk. The four of them reinterpret 'Plenum' tracks from their personal angles while cultivating the same kind of heady energy that defines the album. Another psychedelic experience of industrial overtones that completes the Interchain vision and recaps many of the ideas HVNX has cultivated over the last four years. The 12 inch comes wrapped in a special sleeve designed by Arnau Pi. More

What does a contemporary album mean to us? Marc Pinol and Hugo Capablanca asked themselves this question when faced with the challenge of recording their first C.P.I. LP. To find the answer they went back to some of the most important records in their lives and listened to them from start to finish. At a time when the whole concept of an album might be at its lowest ebb for decades, they wanted to return to the old way of telling stories, recreating the notion of a narrative "journey" but doing so in their own original manner. 'Alianza' displays a wide range of emotions through only a few elements. There are no structures, barely any drums. It's a puzzling journey that moves through darkness and light, happiness and despair, hope and menace, as it unveils its own mysterious universe. Every track is a world in its own, yet all of them are linked by an invisible energy that reflects a coherent constellation. To achieve this, Hugo and Marc used a broad array of vocal timbres, including their own drone-treated voices, digitized vocals from an old vector synth, and those of several contributors. Most of the sounds on the album come from digital devices, as they wanted to "prove themselves" in the studio "by doing something as warm as we could while trying to avoid analogue if possible? The major part of 'Alianza' was recorded during the spring of 2018 in Barcelona, with further takes and additions recorded in Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and Switzerland. It features contributions from Spacemen 3's Will Carruthers, Tanja Siren, Veronica Vasicka, Anna Homler, Demetrio Martini and Pablo Sanchez. The album was mastered by Gordon Pohl in Dusseldorf. The artwork is by Dominic Brucia and features a picture by Tanja Siren. The album was created with the support of The Richard Thomas Foundation. More

In 1984 post-industrial obscurists O Yuki Conjugate had completed their first album Scene In Mirage. At a turning point in their development, they released one side of their electronic sound, one side of their ambient. They had a choice of a musical route forward. They chose to pursue ambient/fourth world music and garnered a reputation for that particular sound. Now, 35 years later, they have come to reflect on their choice. What would have happened had they taken the electronic route? What would they sound like now? OYC decided to retrace their steps and imagine life as another OYC, the Ocean Youth Club. Divided Self is the result. Divided Self is thus a highly conceptual release, not just a clever disguise for their burgeoning electronic activities. Ocean Youth Club have performed live only once, in Barcelona where they supported the other OYC. They were immediately invited to do a release on Spanish label Hivern Discs. Divided Self is the Ocean Youth Club's first outing into electronica. It shows an exciting disregard for the convention of remixing, being an unapologetic four variations on a theme. Divided Self is a collaboration of current OYC members Roger Horberry and Andrew Hulme with the legendary producer Colin Potter, who jointly share the mixing and producing credits. Recorded at Colin's IC Studio live in a day, Divided Self was a semi-improvised work that took a couple of attempts to get into the groove of before the tape rolled and it was committed to the digital realm. The only regret is that real tape wasn't used on the day. Next time! Ocean Youth Club may be conceptual, but it's also an open and playful entity.
