Dedicated purveyors of fine house music, System of Survival are Pietro 'Bingo' De Lisi and Alex Carpentieri, resident DJs at the bastion of underground Ibiza, Circo Loco, since the party first began over decade ago. S.O.S's musical output has been particularly prolific of late, releasing on labels such as Bpitch, Freak'n'Chic, Tenax and Akbal, however it is this their debut release on Ibiza imprint Vitalik Recordings that has perhaps been the most anticipated. The delayed strings and commanding bass-line builds tension from the offset, the tough beats of Rumors highlight the darker, dance-floor territory we find in S.O.S's dj sets but less commonly in their studio production. Heads down, late night boogie business at it's finest. Labirintismo's ethereal panning melodies drift over solid beats and a warm offbeat bass-line. Reminiscent of early Peace Frog material, it's dreamy electric piano riff's contrast pleasingly against its rugged foundations. S.O.S. illustrate their knack for unusual and catchy bass-lines on Beat Jam, their melodies always answering the questions posed by their B-lines. The cheeky vocal sample sits neatly over sparse but
precisely placed percussion, less as they say is more. A Man Black Man with it's beautiful grand piano keys and tribal percussion, full of the duo's nuances, rounds off the EP in style, an eclectic mix of Bingo's funk & soul roots and Alex's Detroit and Chicago influences.

There are two styles that Dachshund does particularly well, airtight dance-floor grooves and lush emotive deep house. The Towards Others EP leans largely to the latter but with a knowing glance to the floor. Dachshund's skill with subtle, well-placed vocals is particularly evident on this EP. What we have here is a beautifully rounded EP of timeless house music. Giv U Luv kicks off the EP with joyous optimism, uplifting and ethereal, this is feel good house music, sunshine music, music to warm hearts and dance-floors. With it's stirring vocals and permeating chords Take My Soul is the big emotive cut of the EP, moving things into more reflective territory it's yearning vocals and stirring pads take the listener to a deeper place. The aptly titled Mmmmm is a low-slung chunk of hip shaking house music at it's finest. Slow and sexy the Spanish dialogue between man and woman narrate the listener through its winding rhythms, intensifying the sensual feel of the track. Amir Alexander perhaps the ideal choice to remix Mmmmm adds more swing and an additional FM bass line which gives the track an old-school electro feel. He gently teases out the crescendos, lengthening the synth rises and emphasizing all the best elements of the original. The result is something of a dj weapon.

The Windtalkers EP comes to Vitalik courtesy of the acclaimed collaboration of Jef K and Chris Carrier. Individually these two stalwarts of the French house scene are known as master-craftsmen of rhythm, renowned for their tight grooves and deft beat construction. Together they compliment each others sensibilities beautifully, as seen on tracks like ?In My System? which they collaborated with Chicago legend Chez Damier to form 'The Gathering' and now again on the forthcoming Windtalkers EP.
The Beat as its namesake suggests is a four to the floor cut of chunky house music, it's rolling bass-line and punctuated hats make The Beat a formidable dj tool indicative of the duo's dance-floor friendly production style. Windtalkers is a dreamier affair, the spoken word vocal and the ethereal pads keep the track elevated while skipping beats and funk infused bass-line keep things moving forward. Soulade's Quantum Leap takes Windtalkers on a cosmic bounce. Huge analogue bass falls and delayed acid riffs are interspersed with crescendos of drum fills adding another dimension to the EP. Amir Alexander's remix takes Windtalkers dreamlike quality into opium-induced reverie. Swung beats, warm embracing chords and expanding pads float languidly over an electric bass-line wet with reverb. It's an enthralling interpretation that rounds off the collection.
