Release Info:
Stepping up for his fourth release on Heist, we’ve got sample wizard Nebraska coming in with some lovely chops and a giant curveball of an
a-side that has summer anthem written all over it. Curious? Dive into this massive 4 track EP by the London native who keeps on bringing the goods.
The Chant des Oiseaux EP is built around a collaboration between Nebraska and BeBelle. Anyone who’s picked up Nebraska’s 2021 release on his own Friends & Relations label will have already heard a glimpse of what happens when these 2 get into the studio. They have a mutual love for French vocals and we can’t blame them; everything BeBelle says, whispers and chants just sounds syrupy sweet.
This might be most evident on the title track of this single, where modulated Rhodes chords, distant chirping and fluttering of birds and a minimal beat form the foundation for BeBelle’s mesmerizing vocal. The dreamy and contemplative vibe of this track makes you long for those endless days of summer. We’re not sure if it’s a 70’s summer we’re longing back for, or 2022’s summer to look forward to, but with music like this, it doesn’t really matter, does it?
If you were still hovering mid-air on the vibe of the A1, ‘Skelp Tune’ – the second A track – will take you back to the ground and straight into the club. Skelp tune is a Detroit inspired house track (Nebraska sent us a ‘note to self’ saying ‘you are not Moodymann’ along with the first demo of this one). He doesn’t have to be; this track has all the clever sampling and disco energy of a classic Nebraska track, nicely tucked into one hell of a groove.
The flip starts with ‘Cop Show’: A no frills disco house track with a life affirming string section, guitar licks all over and a bottom end to freak out your neighbour’s neighbours.
We round up the EP with another collaboration with BeBelle, with the track ‘Henri Rousseau’. The track is built on a groove that almost gallops along, with strings, outer-worldly vocals and howling soundscapes that turn this track into a covert disco burner on the more experimental side of house music.
On the Chant des Oiseaux EP, Nebraska effortlessly shows off his impressive sampling skills, electronic fiddling, and powerful drum programming, reminding us that he’s not lost an inch of talent over the years and manages to surprise us with his music. Knowing him, this is simply because he’s simply exploring new ways to keep surprising himself.
Yours sincerely,
Maarten & Lars

A1 is that classic Nebraska “This Is The Way” vibe; warm, atmospheric, sample-heavy 21st century disco with a truly euphoric build and release. A2 revises that first tune in a more tripped-out excursion. Both B-side tracks feature a French spoken-word vocal from BeBelle. “Fuis” is a blissed-out slow jam, whilst “Espace Fuis” picks the tempo back up again, adding a celestial choir and a fritzed-out arpeggiator solo.

Release Info:
Third time is a charm they say. But if the first 2 times were already so memorable, what more can you ask for?
Nebraska comes in with a bang for his third release on Heist after ‘Soften the Wireless’ EP in 2016 and ‘Metaphor to the floor’ in 2017. It’s hard to
believe it has been 3 years since his last appearance on Heist, but with ‘Y’miss me baby?’, Nebraska takes back center stage with another release
full of disco flavored electronics. Italian disco man-of-the-moment Giovanni Damico comes along for the ride and delivers a stunning 80’s flavored
remix.
It’s not to say that Nebraska (Alistair Gibbs) has been sitting still since 2017. He’s launched his own label ‘Friends & Relations’ where he explores
his cut-and-paste style even more with some seriously cool disco dubs and other sonic adventures. Furthermore, he made a guest appearance on
Aaron Dae and JKriv’s Razor ‘n tape Reserve. Apart from his regular musical explorations, he has also published a book (Surprise party every
week) where we get a glimpse of how Gibbs sees the world.
His view is one of humor and positivity and one of creating new meaning through rearranging context. This is certainly true for his music and this
new EP on Heist. The title track ‘Y’miss me baby?’ oozes funk with a clever combination of samples from different contexts put together to create
something altogether new, yet familiar. The track has a real 80’s disco vibe to it and the vocoder adds even more to the ‘Zapp & Roger’ flavor of
things. It’s a laidback track that feels like it was recorded on a gloomy Sunday evening with no pressure on anything and just room for fun.
The vibe takes a complete left-hand turn with ‘Dip and Flip’, a high energy house track that rattles, loops and bleeps into a full-on disco frenzy.
The b-side kicks off with Italian disco wizard Giovanni Damico remixing the title track. He’s had a great run recently with releases on Lumberjacks
in Hell and more recently on Star Creature, where he’s found a home to explore his own view on modern day boogie. His ‘jam’ remix flips the track
into a freeform arrangement where guitars, disco claps, delays and retro synth licks all work together for a great taste of Italian boogie.
The EP finishes off in true Nebraska style, with yet another curveball. ‘Xia long bao’ sounds like a lost Nick Holder track from the 90’s with its loopy
island style Rhodes and lazy chanting. The choice of samples along with the catchy groove makes this a signature Nebraska track and a quality
closer for this single.
We are super happy to have Nebraska back on Heist and with this amazing EP, you are certainly going to create smiles on your dancefloor of
choice.
Yours Sincerely,
Lars & Maarten

RNT savors the last bit of summer with a deep-n-sexy offering from Nebraska on the 'Usin' Me" single, out now on the Razor-N-Tape Reserve imprint. Londoner Ali Gibbs tweaks a soulful sample with signature finesse; part disco, part house…all vibes!
Aided and abetted by an electro-funk 808-heavy remix from Lovebirds, a dark and stormy take by The Revenge, and a standout slow-burning mix from DJ Nature, we can say for certain you'll be "Usin'" this record, indeed.

Nebraska assembles a crack team of international dance floor talent to remix his own back catalogue for the fourth release on Friends & Relations. Session Victim totally transform the raw breakbeat of 'Pintxos' into something more cinematic and widescreen whilst maintaining a latin piquancy from the original. Mr Beatnick's take on 'Rat Boogie' beautifully dubs-up the source material, weaving in cosmic synth lines and coaxing its essential bounce up to a higher tempo. Marcel Vogel rounds off this great package with a heavily grooved, lascivious cut-up of 'Keep What Ya Got'... music for your hips. Limited vinyl, no digital - get it while you can, folks.

Release Info:
One of our highlights of last year was Nebraska's 'Soften the wireless' EP, with disco stomper Khan's Bargain, and an amazing Tom Noble remix. Since then, we've seen him take on quite a few live shows again, playing at Claire during ADE, and Concrete for our label showcases. He's also managed to find a bit of time to focus on his fresh (new and cool) edit label 'Friends and Relations'. Luckily, since we've been nagging him to do a new EP for Heist just enough for him to still like us, and more than enough for him to want to get it over with, we've gotten our hands on another set of amazing tunes. So we're happy to present his amazing music, nicely packaged in one handy record for your listening pleasure: the 'Metaphor to the floor' EP.
You'll feel a hint of that Nebraska classic 'This is the way' on the lead track 'Affirmation', with its subtle build up and release of energy, looping vocals, and dramatic chords. Aglio e Olio is not only a simple yet tasty Italian dish with of just 5 ingredients, it's also quite the track on this EP, equalling the dish in terms of simplicity and strength. Snares on the 1, Clavi style hits and a loose arrangement give this track a great funk - house crossover appeal.
On the flip, we've got fellow Londoner Laurence Guy, who just released an amazing album on the equally cool 'Church'. His version of Aglio e Olio is a dreamier excursion with filtered pads, acidey licks and more than enough balls in the low end to get you movin' in your dim-lit club of choice.
The ep's final track sees Nebraska turning the energy up a notch or 2 (or 3), with 'Big plate chicken'. It's the sort of track you would imagine Omar S. producing if he would be just a bit whiter, and a bit more British. Whatever that means.
Yours Sincerely,
Maarten & Lars.

Following acclaim for his EP on NYC's Razor-N-Tape, Peckham-based producer Nebraska returns with two weighty string-led deep house grooves. 'Rien Ne Vas Plus' slowly builds to a lush, melodic wide-screen climax, while the crackly 'Don't You Know' offers a rootsier, more dusty flavour. Both tracks are augmented with trackier DJ-friendly 'version' cuts, a nod to the classic 80s reggae 12" format.

The title track drills deep to the depths of primal funk for an extended disco-house workout that stretches over the full A side. On flip we have a pair of slow-burners, with Instant Pressure juxtaposing modern R&B vocal flavour over a hypnotic rhythm track, and then Keep On Keeping On takes us back to the classic soul side with its gritty and gospel-infused groove.

Jun Kamoda is a producer, DJ and MC from Tokyo. New to the label but a friend of the party, Jun came to Mister Sunday in NYC last year and ended up hanging around for a few days afterward, digging for records and sharing bowls of spaghetti with the boys. When he returned to Japan, he got to working on the music we now present to you on The Clay EP. This is Jun blending loopy, psychedelic disco stylings with chugging drum work for three party-ready cuts. They've been chopping up our dance floors months; we're excited to hear them do the same to yours.

A1. Khan's bargain
A2. Khan's bargain (Tom Noble remix)
B1. The blues
B2. It won't be long
Release Info:
With releases on Rush Hour, Mister Saturday Night and Delusions of Grandeur, Nebraska is a man who needs little introduction. Here, he delivers and amazing EP for Heist, showcasing his talent for finding those catchy, but hard to pin-down samples. The 'Soften the wireless EP' navigates nicely between disco and house with 4 originals and an amazing Tom Noble remix. Khan's bargain will be the go to track the more disco minded listeners out there, with a catchy-as-hell synth line that you wish you'd made up yourself. The remix, courtesy of NYC's finest disco selector Tom Noble, goes on a clubbier path, turning the silky smooth original into a distorted house jam full of delays and filtered drums. The B-side sees Nebraska turning towards the housier side of things himself, with "The blues" as a perfect example of minimalistic house. Here, he uses only a small amount of elements to create an intoxicating and intense groove. "It won't be long" breezes through with a lighthearted arpeggio and some lovely dreamy vocals to set a more emotional vibe. EP closing track (digi only) Varkala is somewhat of a special track, being dug up from an old hard disc and remastered for your listening pleasure.
Sincerely yours,
Lars & Maarten

Nebraska - Espace Fuis
A1 is that classic Nebraska “This Is The Way” vibe; warm, atmospheric, sample-heavy 21st century disco with a truly euphoric build and release. A2 revises that first tune in a more tripped-out excursion. Both B-side tracks feature a French spoken-word vocal from BeBelle. “Fuis” is a blissed-out slow jam, whilst “Espace Fuis” picks the tempo back up again, adding a celestial choir and a fritzed-out arpeggiator solo.

Nebraska pays tribute to the records that inspired him in the early 90s. Original samples from various songs by his favourite hip hop production crew are re-presented in fresh combinations and at new tempos. Crisp and crunchy.

nebraska - Keep What Ya Got (Macel Vogel Remix)
Limited vinyl, no digital - get it while you can, folks.

nebraska - Don’t You Know Version
Following acclaim for his EP on NYC's Razor-N-Tape, Peckham-based producer Nebraska returns with two weighty string-led deep house grooves. 'Rien Ne Vas Plus' slowly builds to a lush, melodic wide-screen climax, while the crackly 'Don't You Know' offers a rootsier, more dusty flavour. Both tracks are augmented with trackier DJ-friendly 'version' cuts, a nod to the classic 80s reggae 12" format.
