For over five years, Canadian artist Patrick Holland has developed an inimitable perspective on melodic, freewheeling house music. And the myriad tracks he writes as Project Pablo have come to embody both the sensibilities of the producer and the environs of his Montreal home. Inside Unsolved, Project Pablo's dynamic four-tracker for Spectral, specifically looks to Holland's local clubs and Canada's dance music past for inspiration. The old records of labels such as Steel City and Map Music course through the lush synths of emotional roller "Pressure No Impact" and the light-footed swing of "Big Room Delusion." While standing on the dancefloor at MUTEK two years ago, Holland dreamt up "Pill" in all of its billowy, percussive charms. Lead track "The Solution" cooly and confidently kicks things off with the kinds of earworm synthlines, rich atmospheres, and effortless grooves now synonymous with Project Pablo. Inside Unsolved is yet another classy and classic record from an unstoppable force of quality dance music.

Release #4 on Verdicchio Music Publishing arrives close behind pop driven single "All I Need" in contrasting fashion. Sliding away from robust stabs, and immodest piano hooks, "Sofware" is more genial. While warm, sustained chords blend with tearjerking melodic accents, no specific element takes the lead; the title track is a communal venture. "Dead Channel" follows along similarly, with a timid warble at its core. Halfway through, the harmony seems to all fall apart, but the groove continues and the melody sings to the finish. The B side fades in with a beat-absent number featuring wafts of phased out strings and a sporadic melody that bends and shrieks, all twisted up by a dying Vestax delay. Starting calm, "Scroll Up" moves through waves of soft pads, juggled percussion and digital organ, into a sea of weighty sub and synthetic keys, swiftly followed by a crescendo of progressive stabs and wailing vocals.... not to give it all away. This record was made in a windowless room at the top of Montreal's Saint Hubert Plaza.

The result of Polish Crooner Better Person (Byczkowski) and Canadian Producer Project Pablo (Holland) enjoying a summer studio session in the heat of 2018: "All I Need" fixates on the importance of a good time. Influenced by euro dance and trance classics, the two forged a 140 bpm shameless, melodic overload with dramatic builds and everything you would (not) expect from these two gentlemen. The flip sees Holland ride solo for 9 minutes and 9 seconds. An eyes closed trip through dubbed out chords, melancholic strings, and slamming percussion.... full steam ahead.

Following up his recent Basic EP for Vancouver-based Hybridity Music, Project Pablo's latest offering will be released on August 5, 2014. Three raw heavily swung funky playful house "Utensils" is aimed straight at the dance-floor…Over top of dark gritty rolling grooves, Pablo layers frenetic vocal snippets, cheeky jazzy chord stabs, and warm resonant synth melodies. The release is "tape saturated, swung-out house music; hints of the old and new."
Project Pablo is the latest moniker of Patrick Holland (formerly 8prn). Over the last couple of years the young producer has been making some waves within the West Coast underground electronic scene, producing a slew of remixes, and curating mixes for i-D Magazine, Do Androids Dance, and the Slowcast. He also runs the label, ASL Singles Club in collaboration with Heartbeat(s) and Chef. The label was recently featured on thump and xlr8r. Project Pablo's own production is diverse, moving between a more experimental/ambient sound to classic Chicago House. He recently played SXSW in collaboration with installation artist Charles Long, and will playing a number of festivals throughout the summer; Sled Island, Bass Coast and Shambhala.
