Roberto Lodola is one of the first Italian deejay and producers devoted to the afro and balearic sound from the early eighties and still active in the north side of Italy. Best Record has rediscovered his first studio project from 1986 "Marimba Do Mar" with the precious addiction of two outtakes : Feeling Of The Sun and Hey George!. The plus on this one is the Instrumental version of Aphrodisiac that for strange reasons wasn't available on the original release. More

Man Face is a disco afro studio project from 1977, from the musicians duo Winston Alwyn Gill and Henderson Brathwaite from sounth Africa but recorded in Italy during the disco era. New rediscovered by Early Sounds Recordings in conjunction with Best Record Italy. Pellegrino from the Early Sounds Collective did a good job with additional remix and overdubs for the new "Na Na Na Edit" plus the remastered original disco version available on the flip.

Neddy Smith seems to be just another one of those smooth operators consigned to early 80s history on the excellent Delirium label, but lucky for us Best Records are on hand to dig him out and bring "Give It Up" to a whole new crowd. This is crisp, laid back boogie of the highest caliber, with the title track in particular nailing everything we love about this inimitable era of funk. There's more than whiff of Luther Vandross about the opening strains of "Give It Up", but "Liberated Woman" strikes out on its own with a more ballad-like tone but no dip in the all-important get down. Once more scouring the annals of disco history for the hottest jams, Best look beyond Italy and snap up this much-vaunted slice of American funk from 1982. While second hand prices can get out of control, it's not hard to hear why this glittering prize from Jagg would be so coveted - it's got everything. Jazz-leaning slap bass, mean synthesizer chops and soaring vocals - "Take Time" is prime to set the party off, and no longer is it the preserve of wealthy collectors.
