guti - So Dope (Heartthrob Remix)
Currently fizzing up summer crowds on his European tour, the Argentinian renaissance man is testing his wares, as he prepares to unveil his third artist album at the turn of 2019. Set for release on The Martinez Brothers’ perennial Cuttin’ Headz imprint, it will herald a fresh jacking chapter for the artist who famously refuses to sit still.
An instant statement of intent, ‘So Dope’, the first taster from the forthcoming long-player, lives up to its name with a thumping NYC swing, loose twanging slap-bass pops, trippy vox overlays, springy rhythmic elements and all essential conga rolls. With its concrete-thick groove, ‘So Dope’ commands an equally robust remixer rollcall. Which is exactly what The Martinez Brothers have recruited...
The bossmen themselves get elbow deep with a warped and twisted bassline that snakes around the stately jacking beat, gradually becoming more warped and wonderful as the track progresses. Djebali follows with a precision contrast as the vocal shots wrap themselves tightly around a timeless 909 beat and subtle tracks of venomous acid while Heartthrob flips it into an all-out rolling techno experience. Dope ain’t the word.

guti - Kenny Larkin Black Eye Remix
2
guti - Red Eye (Kenny Larkin Pink Eye Remix)
Headz up! Guti’s current club cutter ‘Red Eye’ continues to wriggle and writhe its way hypnotically into our sets and psyches with these two crucial versions from one of house and techno’s most respected gentlemen… The one and only Kenny Larkin. Weighing in at a combined length of 20+ minutes, both remixes capture the Detroit legend at his deepest and most cosmic with his hands glued to the dials. Not just part of the biggest single from Guti’s ‘Year Of The Conga’ album so far, they also tell a unique tale of their own… These mixes were originally meant for the full release earlier this year, alongside killer mixes from Loco Dice and Priku. But when Larkin received a shiny new Moog One he rang Guti and label bosses the Martinez Brother and told them that they’d have to wait… He was about go back in with a whole new modular perspective. You can feel it, too; that deep throb on the subs and trippy psychedelic swirls of his ‘Black Eye’ mix and that wobbling voluptuous bassline in his ‘Pink Eye’ mix are just two examples of Kenny’s attention to sonic detail and pure analogweight on these two immersive, alluring remixes.

Life is all about rhythms. We don’t know what we’re dancing to until we’re in so deep we can no longer control ourselves. The rhythm controls us. Right now both Guti and the Martinez Brothers are dancing to the conga rhythm. Guti’s third album, they’ve been dancing to it since the summer, teasing us with a whole slew of percussive new… And they’ll continue throughout 2019. Chance are you will, too. Eventually the rhythm will control all of us. It’s too infectious not to. Here’s the 411: ‘The Year Of The Conga’ is Guti’s third and most rooted album to date. It came about through a personal request from brothers Chris & Steve Martinez. Both unapologetic Guti fans they wanted the very first album on their Cuttin’ Headz label to be his. The result is a total reconnection back to his Argentinian foundations, his club roots and everything that first lured him to the dancefloor…

guti - Red Eye (Loco Dice Remix)
3
guti - Red Eye (Priku Remix)
Whether that conjures connotations of an early morning fight, too much indulgence or poor flash photography, we’ve all had many red eye experiences in our lifetimes. And we’re about to get a hell of a lot more as Guti blesses us with his own take on affairs… ‘Red Eye’ is the second track from Guti’s highly anticipated album ‘The Year Of The Conga’. The first ever artist album to drop on The Martinez Brothers’ Cuttin’ Headz imprint, the LP captures Guti’s return to his roots. A raw, honest document of straight up percussive, hypnotic house grooves, the album took root in Japan and was largely developed during his time in the Dominican Republic jungle, sampling native instruments. Everything about it; the rhythms, the instrumentation, the warmth and soul are Guti down to his deepest dancefloor DNA. ‘Red Eye’ sums this spirit up perfectly. Following the inaugural album single ‘So Dope’, once again we’re taken deep inside the Argentinian’s psyche with rolling beats, a lolloping low-riding bassline and an evocative spoken word woven deep into the hip-slinking mix. The remixes hit the spot, too… Close friend and techno ally Loco Dice steps up first with an absolute missile of a mix. A heady, driving affair loaded and coded with a powerful bumping bottom end hook, it’s a hearty nod to the sound Loco Dice championed over 10 years ago. But, as always with the Desolat don, things take a turn for the trippy, just when you least expect it. Romanian roustabout Priku also delivers something very special; stripped-back to a lithe naked groove and honed with restraint and subtlety, without realising, Priku has captured the essence of Guti’s whole album and where his heart, mind and soul are at right now…. Deep in the spirit of a conga rhythm.

Presenting a very special remix edition of the stunning studio album from Guti – recently placed at #11 in Resident Advisor’s 2014 Live Act poll – with new versions of original tracks from Carl Craig, Reboot, Nic Fanciulli, Osunlade and Guti himself. Released in the summer of 2014, Guti’s Rompecorazones saw one of the brightest, most creative stars of the electronic underground going back to his musical acoustic roots. Incorporating elements from a vast array of disparate styles, the end result challenged listener’s preconceptions of Guti. Now, these highly personal records have been revisited and reworked by some of the electronic music scene’s finest house and techno producers, each of whom deliver sensitive reinterpretations with the dancefloor very much at the forefront of their intentions. The full roll-call of producers involved in Rompecorazones Remixed is impressive in scope: Carl Craig, Osunlade, Reboot, Nic Fanciulli, Charles Webster, Damian Schwarz, Andrea Oliva and Livio & Roby, with Guti himself also contributing a Club Mix on album highlight ‘La Salida’.
Planet-E founder and legendary Detroit producer Carl Craig leads the remixes, laying the plaintive piano line of ‘El Solitario’ over a throbbing, acid-flecked techno. Other standout remixes include Reboot’s epic restructuring of ‘We Love You’ and Osunlade’s spellbinding, deep house version of ‘Hurt’. Speaking about the original album release, Guti said: “I gave my heart to each song, so the album is statement of who I am and what´s inside my heart: it’s my way of staying true to myself, my story, my background.” It is a testament to the skill of all of the producers involved in Rompercorazones Remixed that they have managed to preserve the heart and soul of Guti’s originals, whilst imbuing enough of their own personalities into the remixes to create something equally as enthralling.

'Patio de Juegos', which translates as 'Playground', is a wonderful multi-genre journey through the mind of an artist who is both on top of his game, and on the rise towards the stars. Lashings of his ever-present South American heritage infuse with incredibly intricate and perfectly simple house structures that give the whole album it's almost 'child at play' ethos that is rarely found in electronic music. Future club hits such as 'Wanna Be', with its nod to the historical upbeat lineage of house music, and 'All the Girls', with its chugging rhythm, trickling piano loops and erotic vocals sit effortlessly alongside more experimental and jazz inspired tracks such as the explorative 'Still here'. Another fine example is 'Sun', with its deep bass line punctuated with the sun-soaked synths and summer high-hats that export listeners away to a warm utopia. Guti produces a number of tracks with high profile artists from both within and outside the DJ fraternity - a sign of his increasing popularity within electronica, and also his innate ability to collaborate with more mainstream artists. This has resulted in Guti pushing his productions in new and exciting directions. Guy Gerber features on 'We Shall Overcome', with it's rising synths complemented by a chunky beat that will ensure it features in many sets over the coming months. Visionquests' Ryan Crosson lends a hand on 'No Promises' which has resulted in a truly driving dancefloor groove. And 'My Whole Thing' features Anthea Marie Nzekwu whose uplifting vocals accompany a dreamy chilled out beat. Berklee College of Music graduate, and Guti's long-time friend, Grünbox features on 'Miraloo' - an example of Guti's ability to collaborate with the worlds musical elite.
Notably, and perhaps the biggest coup, is that of Daniel Melingo who features on 'Lucio El Anarquista'. The Grammy nominated tango singer and world-renowned musician is well known for his composition work on Pedro Almodóvar's films, and he brings a rich musical education to a truly sublime track. Overall Guti gives up a beautiful mixture of tracks that bridge the space between the club and the living room with consummate ease. A breathtaking first album, which clearly demarcates the live performer's ability and ambition for the coming years.

A classically-trained jazz virtuoso and national rock 'n' roll hero in Argentina, Guti's double 12" pack for Desolat will leave you in no doubt of his ability to twist a snaking groove into something echoingly hypnotic. The tracks contained here are already a favourite in the record boxes of artists like Loco Dice, Carl Cox and Marco Carola, while Guti's life story could itself be the subject of a story by Jorge Luis Borges: "I leave to several futures (not to all) my garden of forking paths."Just two years after his first live sets in Europe, Desolat is proud to present Guti's Las Cosas Que No Se Tocan. The beats follow Guti across continents: Mr Good Vibes was composed in a hotel room in Stuttgart after an argument with a friend, while the serious dancefloor vibes of Sasa, the Hustler and Ieuuu were channelled in Martinez' studio. ieuuu and the Hustler feature slices of glamorous, haunting vocals by Jayson Walker, a British singer that Guti discovered on Myspace. And Sasa boasts Guti's own vocal touches. Meanwhile, the track Aguanile is inspired by one of his favourite melodies as a child, one that he's collected many versions of. The last track on the release, El Campeon, reaches a bittersweet ending in the wide open space between percussive trills and a cut-out refrain, inspired by Guti's favourite Latin storylines of "broken hearts and pain".
