My Favorite Robot - My Favorite Robot - Barricade (DJ Tennis Remix)
10” White Vinyl
Tracklist:
A1 My Favorite Robot - Barricade (DJ Tennis Remix)
My Favorite Robot’s next release is a very special remix by DJ Tennis. It initially comes as a 10” white vinyl and will then be available digitally in autumn.
MFR’s ‘Barricade’ was first released on DJ Tennis’s Life And Death label back in 2012. It was a huge house track that resonates to this day, so it makes sense the taste- making Italian steps up to remix it. He is someone with a cultured take on brooding house and techno, as evidenced by the music he A&Rs for his label as well as things like his own standout DJ-kicks mix from last year.
His new remix is a masterfully melancholic one that starts with a delicate ambient synth line hanging in mid air. Breathy vocals eventually arrive to send shivers down the spine and finally, deep, rolling, mid tempo kicks bring a groove that carries you away into a reverie. It’s made all the more mournful and poignant thanks to some broad synth chords and swirling pads later on and is sure to provide a real centre point of any seriously emotional set.
This is a stunning and absorbing single and another high point for My Favorite Robot Records.

After the success of the fantastic album, Atomic Age, No.19 Music released recently from Canadian musical talents My Favorite Robot, the label has decided to enlist four acclaimed producers to provide remixes of key tracks. Detroit bad boy Jimmy Edgar, Chicago's Kate Simko and legendary techno producer Mr. G all appear on this great EP. The one and only Jimmy Edgar - who has recently launched his own label Ultramajic - goes first with his terrifically alluring version of 'White Light'. He expertly re-works the track into a robotic bit of house that's filled with pinging synths lines, rasping metal chords and shiny percussion. It's typically libidinous and full-blooded and is sure to make for some really standout moments on the 'floor. No-nonsense Rekids man Mr. G then re-imagines 'Here Tonight' as a heavyweight, firmly rooted techno groove with manic conga playing and drilling bass fleshing out the groove. It's a driving track for the dead of night and displays all the man's usual full-throttle intent. Kate Simko, a revered DJ, live act and producer with labels like Leftroom, remixes the superbly titled 'Centerofattentionaaut' with the help of some live musicians including violinists. In her hands the track is a slightly spooky, sparse affair that snakes it way through a desolate urban landscape with subtly rising, hugely musical melodies and plenty of unsettling ambiance contained within. When the vocal arrives at the mid-point it marks a timely release of tension that will undoubtedly send hands skywards. Given the quality of the source material it's no wonder these remixes are so refreshing, but kudos to No. 19 Music for bringing in just the right names to ensure such an amazing result.

My Favorite Robot join forces with No.19 Music for the release of their stunning new artist album, ‘Atomic Age’ venturing deep into the realms of ethereal, vocal electronica and beyond as only they know how… The Toronto based trio, My Favorite Robot has risen through the musical ranks since their 2009 debut, to
become one of the most highly respected production outfits around. The pairing of James Teej, Jared Simms and Voytek Korab seems to be a match made in heaven with the MFR team running a highly successful label, touring the world with label showcases at the likes of BPM, WMC & Sonar and creating stunning original music
and remixes for labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest, their own My Favorite Robot Records and of course No.19 Music. The Robot’s connection to No.19 Music stretches back to the formative days for both, when a shared office in Toronto provided the base for Jonny White and the No.19 crew as well as My Favorite
Robot. Now, with both camps dominating the world stage it makes for the most natural of partnerships for the new My Favorite Robot album to find a home with the good folks at No.19. ‘Atomic Age’ is a beautifully crafted album that opens the doors on the inner sound of My Favorite Robot. Without a doubt it takes influences from the many dancefloors that the trio have rocked over the past few years but at its core this is a heartfelt and musical album that showcases the songwriting and performing talents of the three core members. Opening cut ‘The Circus’ sets the scene with its emotionally charged vocalperformance rising through a sea of synth driven electronica. From here there is a series of dark edged, yet highly engaging vocal cuts including ‘Here Tonight’, the spacey ‘Ride’ and the outstanding recent single ‘Looking for Frost’. Tracks such as ‘Home’ draw on a distinct 80’s electro feel, whilst the excellently titled ‘Centreofattentionaut’ cuts a deeper, hypnotic channel. The acidic stylings of title track ‘ Atomic Age’ reconnect the listener with the Robots’ Acid House credentials whilst ‘Sharpest Tongue’ delivers a classic, down tempo
electro shuffler with its layered vocals and discordant synths. Finally we have the full eight minutes of ‘The War to End All Wars’ that closes the album with style and leaves you wishing there was more. My Favorite Robot have walked a distinctly unique path over the past few years, building a sound that fuses elements from pop’s dark electro past with an intense forward stare into the future. ‘Atomic Age’ is a perfect reflection of that sound and a testament to abilities of the ever-inspiring Robot trio, enjoy!

Toronto trio My Favorite Robot team up with the ever excellent No.19 Music for a brand new single featuring remixes from Juan Maclean & Louie Fresco… My Favorite Robot has come along way over the past four years. Launched in early 2009, originally as a duo and with a fledgling label in tow, the My Favorite Robot bandwagon has grown month on month, seeing the expanded line up of Jared Simms, James Teej & Voytek Korab become an international force to be reckoned with and their label become a hotbed for world class electronic music. ‘Looking for Frost’ sees the Robot trio journey into blissed out, emotive territory with a record that fuses stirring pads, ethereal vocals and a catchy arp loop with subtle drum programming and deep bass, leading to a pulsing rhythm section as the kick drum drops almost two thirds of the way in. The incanted “Sometimes I get the feeling something ain’t right” vocal is a haunting yet memorable line that help makes this one of, if not the most, impressive My Favorite Robot song to date. The original track is backed up with two sterling remixes on the vinyl package, the first delivered by US production heavyweight and DFA man Juan Maclean who turns in a delightfully hypnotic slice of leftfield house that pulls the original elements into a swirling, dark edged dancefloor destroyer. This is followed by a remix from one of Mexico’s rising stars, Louie Fresco who twists ‘Looking for Frost’ into a deep and acidic cut that swirls and bubbles with its heavy FX and deft understated piano hits. The digital package also provides an exclusive dub mix from Mr Fresco that strips back the vocals and lets the instrumentation take centre stage with a wonderfully bright and intense version. My Favorite Robot never fail to deliver and now paired with one of the hottest labels in electronic music one can only wait with anticipation the release of their artist album in the autumn.

This summer, My Favorite Robot Records release another of their excellent and immersive full lengths, this time from German production outfit, Rework.
The trio of Daniel Varga, Michael Kuebler and Sascha Hedgehog AKA Rework, describe their musical aesthetic as "cabaret-independent-house" and combine icy minimal structures with catchy euro-girl vocals, Anglo-French funk antics and a dash of dance floor melancholy. Playhouse, Meant and Items & Things have all released their work, which includes three albums before now. This latest is another musical adventure filled with surprises.
This is an effortlessly diverse album that brings a wide range of influences to the table and ties them all together with Rework's unique sense of style and cool.

Jori Hulkkonen, Third Culture, - Gonna Track You Down
prolific Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen has received ever since releasing his debut album for Laurent Garnier's legendary F.Communications back in 1996 (the first of 6 artist albums for the label). A connoisseur's choice, Jori Hulkkonen's albums (this, his 13th) have always had their own individual personalities, and 'Negative Time' is no different as Jori introduces a new direction and concept, under his latest moniker of Third Culture. "Negative Time' as he delivers a true master class of deep electronica, ranging from ambient waves to leftfield pop to jacking house, 'Negative Time' sees flashes of all Jori's influences and packages it into one of the finest electronic listening experiences you're likely to hear all year. Featuring vocals from Harri Falck, Olga Kouklaki and Jori himself (Jiihoo), this latest LP is arguably his most concise work to date, seamlessly fitting in with the cultured sounds of modern dance music, whilst possessing a timeless quality that should keep this album shining, and fans dancing, forever more.

Jori Hulkkonens sound has always been just as much about the listening experience as about club appeal, and in 'Options', the first single to be taken from his forthcoming album release 'Negative Time', that focus hasn't changed. With trademark beauty, 'Options' organically flows across a tougher, more mechanical structure as Jori introduces a new direction, and a new concept, under the guise of Third Culture. "A few years back I read a piece about Third Culture. The basic idea was to take hard science, like physics and mathematics and put them with literary humanist faculties, although instead of opposing them, the idea was to try and find the similarities and common ground between them. I instantly recognized that juxtaposition; it's the exact same element I strive to find when I play live shows with all of my vintage hardware. Improvising and creating something unique – a human touch, but using electronical machinery – it was something I just had to explore further." Jori Hulkkonen, 2012 And with that, the scene is set. two great remixes by Arto Mwambe & Tomas Barford
