Having already explored the archives of a number of overlooked Greek composers, Into The Light is now turning its attention to the uncharted territory of Greek film soundtracks of the 70s and 80s - a boom period for mystical, transcendental arthouse cinema in Greece.

GOST: A Spiritual Exploration into Greek Soundtracks (1975-1989) is a passion project from the Greek filmmaker and composer Yannis Veslemes, that took years of engagement, exhaustive research and persistence. The collection features a mixture of rare, hard-to-find and previously unreleased material from musicians and composers including Yannis Kostidakis, Thesia, Dimitris Papadimitriou, Michalis Christodoulides, Stamatis Spanoudakis, Haris Xanthoudakis, Vangelis Katsoulis and Charlotte Van Gelder . All material is accompanied by detailed linear notes from the curator Veslemes, explaining the stories behind the tracks and the movies they first featured on.

The compilation celebrates the inventiveness and experimentation of Greek soundtrack composers in the ‘70s and ‘80s, by presenting a surprising mixture of musical hybrids that bridge the worlds of electronic and acoustic music, and compositions that bring together Western and Eastern musical traditions, in uniquely idiosyncratic ways. Traditional Heart“ is the second album by Gianni Brezzo - the band or the studio project – of the Cologne-based musician Marvin Horsch.

The title is by no means to be understood in the sense of an authenticity pathos à la love in times of Tinder, but addresses the process of musical production itself.

Says Brezzo: “This time the process of making music was more important than the product. Not to allow even a thought regarding the effectiveness of the music; pick up the instrument on impulse and put it away again; record again. Finding a rhythm during the process. At home.” More

Following a trip into the heart of Max Santilli’s Sydney studio, Into The Light Records’ ‘international’ series returns to Europe for an audience with former Peur Bleue, Versatile and Wisdom Teeth contribitor Benoit B.
The Berlin-based producer has previously won praise for his atmospheric and evocative approach to electronic music, which priorities melody, texture and vibe over form and function. “Notes of Love”, his first EP for Into The Light, was deliberately designed as a “soft journey for the ears”, with Benoit B opting to layer up only the most essential musical elements in order to guarantee sparkling, crystal clear sound and an overriding clarity of purpose.
Even so, the six tracks are still stylistically eclectic. Compare and contrast the sunrise-ready new age synthesizer melodies, bustling synth-bass, Fairlight style stabs and shuffling breakbeats of “2090”, the Vangelis Katsoulis style bliss of “Polar Nights”, the Art of Noise style ambient collage that is “Czechoslovakia” and the intergalactic, post-electro pulse of “Cowboy Dan”, whose rubbery synthesizer lines and electronic motifs somehow manage to be both funky and foreboding. Yet for all of these stylistic twists, “Notes of Love” is a coherent statement of intent from a producer whose personal musical vision remains as clear as ever. More

Buoyed by the success of Endless, their 2015 primer on forgotten electronic explorer Dimitris Petsetakis, Into The Light Records has worked with the Greek composer to compile a follow-up album that takes an even deeper dive into his archive of previously unreleased material. Like its predecessor, On Shores draws on music recorded in the 1980s and early ‘90s. It contains just two previous released tracks, the humid “Clearance (Part 2)” and poignant “On Endless Shores”, both of which first featured on Petsetakis’s cult 1991 album Missing Links.
On Shores offers another unparalleled insight into the picturesque and atmospheric soundscapes created in the Piraeus-based composer’s basement studio using a mixture of electronic and acoustic instruments, a wide range of global influences and a keen interest in both minimalism and new age ambience. Listeners will encounter a range of stunningly beautiful and beguiling compositions, from the creepy, slow-burn exoticism of “Pythia’s Dance” and rhythmic, otherworldly escapism of “Violated Asylum”, to the gentle bliss of “Like a Knife” and sun-bright joy of “Nearxi (Minimal Marimba Edit)”. For the second instance in their international parallel series, Into The Light Records treat us with seven lush, rich and warm recordings by currently Warsaw-based producers Sasha Zakrevska (Poly Chain) and Bartosz Kruczynski.
Soon after releasing their debut albums - Baltic Beat’ and ‘Music For Candy Shops’ - and realizing similar interests and traits in their solo music, Zakrevska and Kruczynski sketched out a plan for an album and live performance. The record is to a large extent fashioned after the show, with most of the tracks performed live and edited down. ’Pulses’ is a result of hours spent in studio with a minimal set-up of Prophet ’08, Moog Sub 37 and Korg Minilogue; The work present their mutual attraction to minimal synth, repetitive arpeggios and drone music. A perfect blend of poly-rhythmic patterns, ambient textures and beat-less acid moments by one of the most fresh and unique collaborations! More

Into the Light brings out a splendid assemblage of 17 tracks of mostly previously unheard material by Athens based composer Akis Daoutis (Akis) most of them recorded in his hometown and in USA where he was studying in the mid-eighties. This time the release spans even wider both in period of time and style. 'Christmas' being the earliest recording (1986) and the closing track 'My Haunting Sins' the most recent (2016). Apart from including again two pieces from his elusive 'Into the Light' album - originally released in 91 - the 'Space, Time and Beyond' includes some really special features. That would be three tracks from his ultra rare 'Akis Love' cassette tape that was released privately and only in 100 limited copies. Moreover you can find two extracts from his long take called 'New Age Rising' that the original recording lasts almost 40
minutes in one take. This collection is making an effort to capture the works of Akis in a period of almost three decades. The variation of the compositions' style is even more impressive. From hypnotic ambience to more dark and unwordly exploration using Xenakis' UPIC musical tool and from his late 90s/early 00s contributions
on soundtracks back to more new age lift music. More
