Following on from last year's album, Heart Of Sky, Damian Lazarus joins forces once again with his spellbinding live project, The Ancient Moons, on Crosstown Rebels this April. He invites two of Crosstown's most recent signees, BUTCH and Ae:ther, to provide their own take on the track. The original cut of All I Need To Get High opens up with an atmospheric, broken beat intro. Lazarus explains that he "started with the pretext of the melody from the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic and built a psychedelic journey inspired by Pink Floyd and gospel choirs". The breathy and soulful male vocals blend effortlessly into the euphoric and hypnotising strings as the underpinning bassline drives the track onward. "The song is deep, soulful and a little strange and I'm very proud of it," Damian says. BUTCH creates a more club aesthetic, adding a deep and rolling bass with squelchy synths and minimal vocals. A mesmerising break bleeds back into the gritty bass. Next to provide their take is Ae:ther. He creates a more sinister and foreboding feel with trance-like elements and an urgent beat. Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons have unleashed a plethora of enchanting releases on Crosstown over the past few years. 2015's album, Message From The Other Side, received high praise from the media with The Fader calling it "a journey into techno's dreamiest recesses" and Vice naming it a "psychedelic masterpiece". Taken from last year's Heart Of Sky album, All I Need To Get High, features the vocal talents of London singer Jesse Appiah, who has worked alongside Michael Kiwanuka, Jamie Woon, Kwabs and Jess Glynne. BUTCH has worked alongside big names such as Ricardo Villalobos and released on the likes of Rekids and Cocoon. His hard work has seen him awarded the title of Best Producer from Groove Magazine two years running. As well as providing this remix for Lazarus, Ae:ther's debut album has also been signed to Crosstown. 2019 will see the Berlin-based producer release once again on Afterlife as well as unleashing his dazzling live-show on the world.

A career spent DJing across the globe was the catalyst for Damian Lazarus’s latest project – Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons. Masterminded by Lazarus the album brings together a wide assortment of vocalists, collaborators and players from around the world. Taking inspiration from Lazarus's Lazpod series, Get Lost events and Day Zero festival in Mexico, this is music for deserts, jungles and sunrises. Kicking off in LA, Lazarus was joined at the production controls by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco, Arctic Monkeys, Florence) as the album moved to London, and then final recording sessions completed in Mexico . The resulting album, ‘Message From the Other Side’, is a revelation. It runs the gamut from the wonderful Qawwali-flavoured techno of last year’s alternative dance hit ‘Lovers Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’ to the African-tinged house of ‘Sacred Dance of the Demon’, dense dark ambient of ‘Inner Core’, and the bubbling depths of forthcoming single Vermillion, this is a rich and ambitious album. Lazarus brought together the widest range of musicians to achieve his goals. Initially there was Moses Sumney, an LA singer-songwriter and guitarist whose vocals light up the dynamic deep house groove of ‘Vermillion’, and the epic closing number, ‘Tangled Web’. Lazarus’s long-standing friend and associate Ali Love, contributes vocals to the soulful groove of ‘We Will Return’. Other collaborations came from further afield. Hossam Ramzy, an Egyptian master- percussionist, most famous for his work on Jimmy Page and Robert Plant’s ‘No Quarter’ album laid down the amazing rhythm tracks for the Ancient Moons. ELEW (Eric Lewis), an American jazz pianist played a ‘treated piano’ in an unexpected, experimental way. Lazarus and Ford turned to Andrew Waterworth, double bassist with the acclaimed Penguin Café for the album’s lush string arrangements courtesy of Mexico’s Yucatan Symphony Orchestra. Meanwhile, Fareed Ayaz, Abu Muhammad and Hamza Akram, are Pakistan’s leading exponents of Qawwali singing, the hypnotic sacred Sufi music that Lazarus fell in love with after hearing it on the soundtrack of political thriller ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’. They appear not only on ‘Lovers Eyes (Mohe Pi Ki Najariya)’, but also the spaced out, sitar-laden ‘Amber Palace’, a piece that features the sitar work of Sidartha Siliceo, a former student of Ravi Shankar. Keen to include an Afro-beat flavour, Lazarus turned to the studio owner brother’s wife, a princess of Guinean origin whose vocals became the centrepiece of the bubbly, joyful ‘Sacred Dance of the Demon’. Adding to the vibe on the same track is an appearance by Mozambican guitar prodigy Neco Novellas. By gathering this gumbo of music from across the globe Lazarus has created a collection that’s as happy on the dancefloor as off, a set of songs and moods that work both as an album and, when cherry-picked, as a groove that would move from Ibiza to San Francisco to the UK festival circuit. It’s also a body of work which will be coming to life and touring when they hit the road in 2015.

Man O To from the elusive producer NU is finally set to be released as a single on Crosstown Rebels, featuring remixes from Parisian producer Pépé Bradock who producers two amazing takes on the original. Since its inclusion on Acid Pauli’s Get Lost Compilation in 2012, the track has gained huge support and become a modern-day electronic classic. A nomad of modern times, NU has travelled the continents with his diverse music to unearth his imitable style. Represented heavily in Man O To, where instruments amalgamate with electronic production to become solid rhythms. An extra spark come from its lyrics, outtakes from an old Persian poem from the well known poet Rumi, who speaks of true happiness in love here performed by Ghazal Shakeri from an original recording made by renowned French composer Armand Amar.
