Jon Hester returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids label with the second instalment of his ‘Converge’ LP, ‘Converge - Part II’. The second part of 2020’s ‘Converge - Part I’, a body of music which saw enthusiastic responses from the likes of Surgeon, Lauren Flax, DJ Bone, Anthony Parasole and Jus-Ed to name just a few, sees the Berlin-based DJ/Producer and dancer generously expand on and refine his slick vision of techno on one of electronic music’s key labels. By encompassing warm and soulful textures within club focussed grooves, Hester continues to explore the far reaches of both the musical cues picked up from his years as a dancer and formative time spent in the Midwest US, connecting influences from Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit. Stretched across a double LP, the album opens with the spacious and icy ‘Stealth’ followed by the machine communications of ‘Artificial Intelligence’. The B-side sees a whirlwind of the synthetic in ‘Instant’ before ‘Contact’ swiftly picks up the pace with it’s warbling pads and slippery percussion. On the second disc, ‘Circadian Slip’, custom-built for dancefloor pandemonium, continues with off-kilter leads and vocal snippets before ‘Shadows’ brings eerie syncopation to the proceedings. In the final stretch, ‘Silver’ maintains steady energy into the twilight hours, and the gorgeous ‘Wonder’ closes out the LP beautifully, providing a soft landing to an exceptional journey through Hester’s sound. Tracklist: 01 Stealth, 02 Artificial Intelligence 03 Instant, 04 Contact, 05 Circadian Slip, 06 Shadows, 07 Silver, 08 Wonder

Prolific American artist Jon Hester returns to Rekids for the first instalment of his new album, ‘Converge’, this September. Jon Hester grew up in the Midwest US, living in Chicago and Minneapolis while taking musical cues from Detroit. Initially he was a dancer, and later transitioned to the decks with a refined understanding of what it takes to move a club. He progressed to hosting his own events, holding residencies, and working at a record shop, and now brings his physical rhythms and adventurous drums to his productions, with output on respected labels such as Transmat, Deeply Rooted, Dystopian, Klockworks, and LET Recordings, not to mention multiple appearances on Rekids. Continuing to show fine form on his debut album, Hester now serves up eight of his signature house and techno fusions with plenty of his trademark directness across four sides of vinyl. The superb 'Sending Signals' opens the album with scene-setting synth modulations full of sci-fi atmosphere. It's the calm before the storm as 'Metropolitan' then immediately sets off on a cantering groove that is eventually run through with busy, jazzy piano keys that bring the soul. 'Haze' has excellently taught kick drums with hypnotic synth tones adding colour, and features Hester on saxophone. When 'Rain' comes, things grow darker and more menacing, with shakers and urgent stabs keeping you moving at a slick pace. The second half of this compelling record features the loopy punches and pulses of the super smooth 'Dreamstate', beautifully cosmic and widescreen techno of 'Free' and pensive but urgent deep electro of standout cut 'Flex.' Last of all, 'Equinox' is lit up with distant chords which bring a far-sighted gaze to the rolling, robust kicks. TRACK LISTING: A1. Sending Signals, A2. Metropolitan, B1. Haze, B2. Rain, C1. Dreamstate, C2. Free, D1. Flex, D2. Equinox

Renowned techno artist Jon Hester returns to Rekids Special Projects with a thundering fourtrack release, aptly entitled ‘Momentum’. Since his previous Rekids appearance, the Berlin-based Minneapolitan has continued delivering a steady stream of club ready cuts on labels like Transmat, LET and Deeply Rooted. Following a busy summer playing at the likes of Rex Club, Tresor and Hï Ibiza, Hester now returns to Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects techno imprint in fine form. ‘Accelerator’ opens with solid, overdriven kicks, deep chords, electrifying synth patterns and saturated claps followed by ‘Beatwave’ which features rhythm-led vocal sampling, upbeat Arp stabs and sparking cymbals. On the flip, ‘Zoned’ thunders with low-end frequencies, emphasised by a flying groove with snappy hats, subtle claves and white noise hits when to finalise ‘Part 4’ bounces with distant congas and tribal percussion, tight hi-hats, floating pads and a punchy kick.

USA’s Jon Hester serves up four heady techno cuts for the second installment in Rekids’ newly launched techno orientated series Special Projects. Based in Berlin, Hester’s discography may be humble but it is one of pure quality. The American techno producer has released on Rødhåd’s Dystopian, appeared on a release alongside the likes of DJ Richard, Hinode and Arthur Kimskii (Point Break) on L.A.G., and now joins the Rekids Special Projects series featuring FBK, Markus Suckut and DJ Deep. Heaving distorted kicks and echoing stabs lay the blueprint to ‘Inertia’ whilst intricate hats make way for metallic melodies. Speeding things up, ‘On The Move’ is a more driving cut in comparison with its trippy atmospherics and crunchy percussion, whereas the surging ‘Short Circuit’ demonstrates syncopated percussion and ominous synths for a rhythmic dancefloor workout. Finally, ‘Neurons’ sees various cosmic elements ebb in and out of the mix for a mesmerising conclusion.

Sophisticated deep and athmospheric techno by Les Enfants Terribles. An extra fine release number one to start this fresh venture by Dutch dj/producer JP Enfant, who previously released on Don Williams's a.r.t.less label. These terrible kids all ready made name in their local scene and are now ready to step over the border. Tip!
