karim sahraoui - Before the 2nd Coming
R&S newcomer Karim Sahraoui delivers an EP of deep, emotive techno that draws on the rich legacy of Detroit while staying relevant for the modern era. Sahraoui is a globetrotting seeker of musical truth spending time in Malaysia, Italy and Spain as well as his native France, he recorded in the early 2000s to some acclaim as Djinxx, releasing prolifically for Delsin, Cocoon, F-com Bedrock, and Ovum amongst others. In 2009 he took a couple of years out from the industry, travelling to Malaysia to find himself. In 2011 a chance meeting reconnected Sahraoui with Derrick May, who he originally met in the late 90s. May was reactivating Transmat and persuaded Karim to let him release his music, but on the condition it be under his own name. The resulting pair of ’Eternal Life’ EPs in 2014 and 2016 marked his rich return to form - glorious melodic, contemplative techno in the classic motor city mode. HIs Plenitude EP for R&S builds on similar positive themes - from the percolating arpeggios and mystic melodies of ‘Spy Of The Desert’, to the anthemic jazzy techo paen of ‘Born Again’ or the aching symphonic build of ‘Before The 2nd Coming’ its clear that after decades in the business Sahraoui’s talent is only growing rather than diminishing. "I wanted to give it more spirituality, musicality and roots with the choice of the sounds. Going back in the past and transcribe everything with visionary fusions," Sahraoui explains.

Philipp Stoya is back on Compost Black with a bunch of fantastic tunes, a hypnotic trip with deep analogue playfulness and elegance. It's a story of dedication, devotion and a whole lot of craziness. The debut E.P of Philipp Stoya, who might be recognized from his appearances on some Various Artists - 12"s on Compost Black Label, is a testimonial of love, his love to his wife, whose name is the EP's title, his love to music in general, giving birth to this record and his love to electric pianos and synths, such as the Fender Rhodes and the Roland Juno 106, which sounds give the tracks on the record an unique flair and atmosphere.

The COMPOST ALLSTARS, consisting of Christian Prommer, Roland Appel, Jan Krause from Beanfield and Michael Reinboth, deliver here the official "birthday anthem" on the occasion of the 20 year label anniversary. "Good Day" is a top-notch impulsively deep tech house track with vocals by Fingers, Inc. - legend singer Robert Owens. The mighty SHOW-B contributed a versatile peak time re-work. In preparation of the Compost Records jubilee, it became clear pretty fast that there is need for a proper birthday anthem. Therefore Compost head honcho Michael Reinboth and his longtime buddies and label mates Christian Prommer, Roland Appel and Jan Krause locked themselves up in the studio as Compost Allstars, in ordert o create "Good Day". Robert Owens was flown in to contribute the vocals and a timeless deep house track was born. The "Good Day" Original is also part of the digital compilation "V.A. - COMPOST 500", which comes as download code with the jubilee book "SOUL / LOVE - 20 Years Compost Records"!

Christian Prommer is back on Compost Black Label with a new EP for the summer. Uplifting and soulful vibes to enrich any open-air beach set, well, notwithstanding that these tracks would enlighten all dark cellar floors anyway. The beats, strings and harmonies form the "Hanging On The Dj Booth" EP are heavily inspired by a cool girl that loves to hang upside down on the DJ Booth at our favorite clubs in Munich - sometimes breaking the DJ booth and getting invoices from the clubs for the damage. Never paying them, but being upset about it, because she thinks that the clubs should pay her for her dancing and hanging on the DJ booth. I try to only play in clubs where this girl is around. If I could, I would marry her. These tracks are part of the upcoming Christian Prommer album "Ambach" that will be released in October 2013 to celebrate the Compost Black Label issue 100.

19 years old Emil Seidel pours two tracks on the A-side and his first trademark on vinyl. This is a true discovery from Move D, who played „Tumbling“ many many times in his sets and gave us the hint. Influenced by the begining of Chicago House, and a ten years classical cello background, Emil started to produce house music in 2009. After his debut release on New York based label We Make Names and two digital releases on Frankfurt’s Surce label, this two killer tunes approving the damn young talent. The B-side starts off with an awakening battle yell, from the DJ and producer duo Deo & Z- Man. Whilst other kids learned walking, the two residents of the Golden Pudel Club (Hamburg) and The Golden Gate (Berlin) started creating their own wicked fumbling flow. When was the first time Philipp Stoya, 23 years young native of Jena, took notice of a four to the floor bassdrum? It must have been the moment in the cellar of his parents house, where Mathias Veit, co-founder of the Fatplastics Recordstore, and Agent Griede (Freude am Tanzen Bookings) were living. In an early stage he listened from the aisle outside the room what the roomers were playing. Well, the bassdrum was dominant. Later on Philipp extended his deep house horizon in the room and it makes boom.
